Yosha one? Sorry not on it ATM

Try either the beetle or yabasanshiro core - not near my series x to check which one I use -  but have my tablet with me and it’s using the yabasanshiro one along with the same bios is use on Xbox to run Saturn games on retroarch

@carlospie just double checked and im using Yabuse for my series x

@Stejay i dont think either retropass (its an xbox only front end unfortunately)  or launchbox work on mac  - only retroarch itself

I realised what was wrong. Iv lost the 32gb usb I had in the back of the Xbox 🤣 so retroarch couldn't find any files.

Yeah, I was hoping there was a way to configure it from a Mac, but guess not.  Time to dust off my almost deleted the other day, Windows partition!

I can't get any arcade games to show up in Retroarch.  I have been adding ROMs to an external hard drive in folders named after the system, so Mega Drive, SNES, etc and when I scan the folders, it sees the games and adds a short-cut on the left hand menu to the new system and displays the games added thus far.  However, when I scan my MAME folder, there is no new menu, and no way that I can see to select to play the games.  Any suggestions?

EDIT: Kind of got it now.  So MAME ROMs need to be zipped?  It can see zipped Outrun, but says files missing, and Frogger, but that just crashes Retroarch.  Also, which core should I be using for best performance and compatibility?

I've added a couple of GameCube ROMs to it but when I run them I get this message: "An error has occurred.  Turn off and check the Nintendo GameCube instructions booklet for more information."  The games are loading so far as in the error messages appear in the games design and font.  Help!

EDIT: And now this morning, without changing a single thing, and the Xbox IP address is exactly the same, FileZilla will not connect so I can't make anyway changes at all now anyway.

Is the PS2 emulation any better now / is there a compatibility list somewhere?

I've not had any issues with anything on PS2 but Gamr13 on Twitter has said today that there is a UWP version of the stand alone PCSX2 emulator in the works.

Sure would.  From talking to people in the Discord groups it would seem that Xbox emulation (emulators for the Xbox) is a neglected scene, predominantly because of the "Direct X only" approach to coding.  You need a specific UWP version of the emulator and most people are not bothered enough to make one.  But with the extra horse power of the Series S and X, the existing emulation scene has had a bit of a boost and some coders are now working on updates for their emulators on other formats.  I even heard talk of Switch emulation. Hopefully the more people get into emulation on Xbox, the more chance there is of having it developed for alongside PC.

Im still hopefull a crash-free AM2R will happen.

hah a switch emulator on the series x would be amazing - though would settle even for a wiiu emulator.  Guess if the could an original xbox emulator it would make a lot of peeps happy since backward compat has once again been shelved by MS

This is driving me mad now.  I have a retail install of RetroArch on my Series X which runs most systems I've tried so far with no issues.  However, it doesn't matter how many guides I follow, which all say pretty much the same, I cannot get GameCube games to run.

They start up, and the games are recognised because every one that I run throws up the same error, but in the graphical style of the game I'm trying to run:

Has anyone else had this issue?

within your file directory settings under cache do you have a path set up for one (ive a created a cache folder on my external hard drive and pointed it there)

Type / click these links on your Xbox:

AM2R: https://cutt.ly/dH9NRDH  (looks like they fixed the crashing issue, but see below)

Sonic 1: https://cutt.ly/lH9Nbbi

Sonic 2: https://cutt.ly/MH9NWlx

Sonic CD: https://cutt.ly/QH9NTAR

Kodi Leia: https://cutt.ly/1H9NFMb

Kodi Matrix: https://cutt.ly/sH9NGYY

The sonic ports require the Data.rsdk file from the Steam release for them to work properly.

The Kodi releases are true 4K apparently.

AM2R is the amazing Metroid 2 port.  It doesn't seem to crash with this release, but there's still a map screen issue - when the map appears the screen dims, and when you close the map it remains dim.  The solution is to fire a missile (sorts out the brightness), or just don't use the map.  Amazing game.

The error messages are not from Retroarch, these are the in-game error messages suggesting your actual gamecube console is faulty.

So it's got to be the bios.  Use the bios from the OP in this thread, and make sure it's in the right location on your xbox.

To do this, go into the retroarch on the console and look in SETTINGS then the last option is DIRECTORY.  You'll see a nightmare long route to get there - it's going to be Q:\users\UserMgr0\AppData\Local\Packages\RETROARCH NAME\Localstate\system.  Retroarch gets renamed every time MS take it down, so mine is called ARCADE CLASSICS, for example.

Make a note of where that SYSTEM folder is.

Now go to the computer, download the massive bios pack from the OP.  When you unzip it, you have everything you need in one folder, also called SYSTEM.  What you need to do is use FTP to copy the whole contents of that system folder into the system folder on the xbox.  Make sure you don't put the system folder INSIDE the existing system folder - you want the system folder on the Xbox to contain all the files and folders in exactly the same structure as in the download.  You're copying the contents of the system folder you downloaded into the system folder on the xbox, if you see what I mean.  It's tricky because each of the emulator cores wants the BIOS in their own "correct" place.  You'll see Dreamcast Bios is in System/DC wheras the Playstation Bios isnt in it's own folder at all.  But everything is where it SHOULD be in that download, so copy across lock stock and barrel.

It's surely your bios files at fault, your error messages are in the Gamecube fonts, like a faulty console.  Your emulator is emulating a faulty console accurately!  Good luck.

Thank you, @dumpsterfor a *very* comprehensive reply.  I'm pretty sure I've added the files exactly where you say, but at the same time, everything you say makes perfect sense.  However, I can't check as I for some reason, I can no longer FTP to my Xbox.  Nothing has changed, FileZilla on Mac to Durango FTP, the IP address is correct, but now it just times out.  I have tried again in Cyberduck, rebooted both machines, deleted and reinstalled Durango, and made sure they are definitely on the same network.  I give up.  😢

EDIT: So, without me changing anything, it looks as if it is an issue with my router (standard Now Broadband crappy hub), as I've connected both to 4G via my phone and I can connect perfectly.

Can anyone one suggest what needs changing / opening up, whatever on my router please?

Further edit: @dumpster, while connected via mobile, I copied all the files over again, keeping the correct file structure intact, and I still get the same error.  I have a Series S too upstairs I haven't tried this with yet.  I'll give that a go tomorrow.

Sorry, missed this previously.  Could you elaborate please?

Edit: Found what you mean in RetroArch, but no difference. Thank you though,

Now then @Stejay , it seems the error you are getting is what you get on a real GameCube when the disk is scratched.  So I'd take one of your GameCube iso files and put it on a different usb device and see if that works.

Try formatting the usb stick as NTFS. Try a different usb stick. Try a hard drive instead of a usb stick.

finally , check the iso file itself.  You can do this by downloading the Dolphin emulator for the PC.

In the list of games, right click on a game and select Properties.

There is a Verify tab and the Verify Integrity button at the bottom.

Cheers @dumpster.  Moving my .iso files was going to be my next move actually.  They are on an external drive (NTFS format) currently.  Good shout on about verifying the files too.  I'll check for a Mac Dolphin and do that too.
