installed Aethersx2 (ps2 standalone) on retail last night,  its an updated version of the psx2 standalone with all the features enabled in the menu ie controller settings, setting up hotkeys without needing to change ini files etc..  and it works and plays far better than the original psx2 standalone.

Another great feature is  being able to swap from hardware to software render in the pause menu as well as being able to create per game settings.  below vid is of transformers which wont run correctly in hardware mode - black line down screen, but one quick swop to software mode and its run great.

also saved states work as well:

To get it on retail first go to  https://www.xbox.com/pt-br/games/store/aethersx2avx2/9nm1x58v5sf6?rtc=1  then click on add to wishlink.   Then on your xbox change the region location to brazil (you will need to restart once you do this).  Then go to the store and your wishlist were you will see Aethersx2 - click install.  Once installed change location back to uk and reboot, and then your good to go.  You can then go into setting and set up the path to your Ps2 games and the location of your PS2 bios (i have both on and my external hard drive)

Excellent, big thanks for that. I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the updated PS2 emulators were only going to dev mode. Had no idea someone had uploaded them elsewhere.

Yeah seems to be a grey area as long as no one is making a profit from it seems that a blind eye is turned (though still not officially allowed to be mentioned of the existence in the main discord as it’s a no no)

Been experimenting with different controllers using the Brook Wingman XB adaptor. My Hori PS4 stick works well, taiko drum for Switch seems fine and all the 8BitDo controllers I've tried have worked.

You can actually use original GameCube controllers via the 8BitDo GBros dongle they made for Switch. This makes me wonder if the Donkey Konga bongo drums will work, as I quite fancy playing Jungle Beat.

@Quest that’s good to know about the 8BitDo controllers I have a usb one I use on my tablet for retro gaming so will have give it a try on the Xbox.

got a larger external usb hd yesterday so have spent the day transferring my old drive across as well as adding a lot more including  a nearly complete ps1 Europe set 🙂

It's weird that the Xbox supports so few controllers without the Wingman, but it's been really good value so far.

Now I'm wondering about a few more obscure peripherals. I know Dolphin supports microphones for playing Odama, but can't imagine there's a way to use the original mic as that connected to the console's memory card port. Wondering if it'll let me use the Xbox wireless headset instead.

Something to try in the next few days, I think.

Sorry for being a total noob, but is there still a way to get Retroarch and/or Dolphin on a Series X without having to use dev mode, and if so, is there an idiot's guide to doing it?

Is there anyway I wonder to be able to use Xbox controllers as buzz controllers either on retroarch psx2 or athersx2 stand alone ?

I'd assume it'd be doable by remapping the buttons to something that makes sense. In Retroarch you can save the button mappings as a game specific config file so it doesn't mess up everything else, but not sure about the standalone.

Had a play in retroarch earlier but no joy - normally retroarch has default profiles you can switch to for the various controllers - but for ps2 it’s only dual shock . Nowhere to set them up within the controller menu

The guys over on the discord server have been putting together fixes and tweaks you can add to aethersx2 to make individual game run better - they have a link to there shared folder where you can grab them - this is sky cooper 3 running with fixes added - I can say that this looks almost good enough as some of the games released now on modern consoles

I've one of these and using the thrustmaster t-hotas x but the home button is red, usually in pc when this is red it remapped some buttons and on the xbox it seems to have the axis-2 and axis-5 duplicated.

Axis-2 is twist stick (used for rudder)

Axis-5 is the throttle rocker.

Are you or anyone else aware of a way to sort this?

retrix-gold has been added to Gamr13 depository for retail.  retrix is an alternative to retroarch (more a nicer looking front end uses the same cores etc..)  at the min its basic with a not the full set of cores that retroarch has (so no ps2 or dolphin etc...).

For me at the min without the additional cores its not worth me switching over to it as it doesnt cover half of what i use on retroarch (over the last 6 months ive been building a full collection of most consoles and computers on retroarch from ps1 /dreamcast downwards - with  ps2/wii/gamecube more a collection of my own fab games than full collections)

bit of a tip i found out for running gamecube / wii games on retroarch.  For most games you should set the CPU speed in the retroarch core settings to 90%  for games that run at a low stuttery FPS mess (star wars rouge leader im looking at you) then set it to about 50% - for this fixed most of my issue (still occasional little stutter on star wars)

That's interesting. Do the games themselves still run at full speed?

@dumpster I’ve haven’t seen any drops in speed - in the case of rouge leader before it was running slow which you could  see in the intro vid with the dancing stormtroopers with the stretched out sound etc.. but dropped to 60% and it runs at normal speed to sound stretching etc..   it’s more to do with stability  this is from the discord:

“ Actually the reason we suggest a 90% CPU Clock Rate isn't anything to do with performance but more to do with stability, a lot of games (mostly GameCube from my experience) will just straight up freeze at random intervals when the Clock Rate is at 100%, with it at 90% these random crashes don't occur”

Gamr13 has had an app created now you can install to your Xbox to access there repository - you still need to go to the website to get app install but once installed you can use it to install the emulators etc.. (no need to access them via edge anymore)

@dumpster you may want to remove the Brazilian way of getting athersx2 from the guide that link is now dead - so the guide is pointless until a  New link appears (the athersx2 dev is hell bent on keeping this of retail for some reason and is trying to work out how to stop the dev version being used for retail by some way of telling if it’s being used in retail mode)

Retroarch is the gift that keeps on giving on series x… via dosbox pure you can install windows 98 - and then install any old pc game that ran on 98!! This is a quick vid I made testing out the original alien vs predator game (as it’s retroarch you can fully

customise the controller setup)

to set it your going to need a usb self bootable copy of windows 98 **cough internet archive cough** and then you run it via dosbox pure on retroarch - this vid will walk you through the process (it’s the one I followed)

I transferred the contents of my Wii hard drive to the Xbox emulation drive.  Very impressed by the Wii emulation, but of course the Wii controller is missing.  Anything that uses the classic controller is fine, but I take it there's no way to use a Wii remote?

I don't think the Xbox does Bluetooth, i know I cant use my wireless headphones because of that.  But I do have a Wii wireless sensor bar and used some driver or other to use the Wii remote on PC so I'd imagine there might be a way?

I don't think there's any way to use a Wiimote currently. I've seen people get it working as a mouse but it doesn't seem to work in Retroarch.

I'm tempted to try plugging a Mayflash Dolphin Bar into the WIngman to see if that'll work, but I doubt it will.
