Simply redefine the rules so lapped drivers can attend instead of him.

Mercedes should take what happened on Sunday to CAS. Oh did we say we were dropping the appeal? Sorry, we meant we were not going to bother with the FIA kangaroo court.

CAS has no jurisdiction. It keeps getting brought up. CAS isn't some criminal or even civil court really, they are signed up to by sports.  The FIA is only signed up for doping cases, the highest sporting court here IS the FIA Kangaroo court.

Mercedes could sue in a "real" court of course but only for contractual reasons / loss of earnings etc, the result wouldn't be changed.

F1 have listed Max's top 5 wins on the way to the championship on their website. Funnily enough Abu Dhabi doesn't make the list despite Max winning the race and the the title on the final lap thanks to a "thrilling" last lap overtake. I am going to be very interested to see how Abu Dhabi is presented in F1 media next year when they cut together the VTs they use during the season.

Because if he'd pitted immediately, Max wouldn't have. Imagine if he pitted, Max didn't, and it ended under that SC.

And if he pitted after Max he'd be behind him.

What an absolute joke. With rules like that it's literally Mario Kart, not a real motor sport.

That's not a rule, that's just basic race management and is true of every motorsport with a safety car.

Watch any Nascar race if you can stand it, whoever in line is first to crack for a late safety car will be followed in by EVERYONE but the talk will all be about who is first to crack.

Also it's not Mario Kart because Mario Kart has neither pit stop nor safety cars.

I like his "my knighthood goes to another school".

Oh, no no, no.

He gave a million quid to Tony Blair.  For nothing.  No expectations at all.  Then when people found out about it, Blair returned the money.

There you go, Bernie Ecclestone, a man who has completely built his reputation on giving money away and expecting absolutely nothing back in return, giving a sitting Prime Minister £1m for no reason than he liked the cut of his jib.

I mean the combination of that + having the race director decide on what happens on the restart. Which in this case was literally deciding who won the championship.

Autosport speculating on what happens if Hamilton leaves:

https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/what-could-mercedes-plan-b-look-like-if-hamilton-quits-f1/6927393/

Basically, they think Bottas back to Merc, Giovinazzi back to Alfa.

Do we agree? Bottas and Russell, at this stage, does not look the strongest paring. Could Merc make a move for Norris or, shocker, could Max pull a Button and swap Red Bull for Merc?

With the new regs, it is a bit of a gamble for all involved but I guess you'd have to assume that it is likely that out of all 10 teams Mercedes would still be one of the front runners in 2022.

Would Merc settle for a midfield runner to replace Hamilton. Not a chance.

They'd want a proven winner.

Alonso for Merc in 2022.

There I said it first :hat:

Please let this happen.

As it almost guarantees the Mercedes will be uncompetitive, sorry Alonso.
