I feel ‘fast loading times’ is a key one for new, I always preferred the HTPC over the PS4 due to it.

Hopefully we’ll see a number of evolutionary improvements, fast loading times, stable frame rates, and more advanced AI / heavily populated cities / races / etc.

The graphics on PS4 for me are excellent, it’s the other aspects that were lacking.

In theory the increased power, CPU, and SSD could allow for impressed new tricks. Especially the latter since even on PC developers had to assume some players still use slow HDDs. But both Microsoft and Sony need to get out of the cross gen phase first. Even Horizon 2 is cross gen, isn't it? The sooner they leave the old tech behind, the sooner we get cool new stuff.

Don't wanna drag this completely off topic, so if it's a big subject just say, but I play in a small room on a monitor - is there a monitor equivalent of an LG OLED?

OLED monitors do exist on PC, primarily in either laptop or TV sizes though. The monitor sized ones are for specialist graphics work and have professional-grade pricing to match, £3000+ for 21.6". There is/was an upcoming eSports-designed one which should be pretty good for games, unknown pricing and probably a Japanese exclusive as its being produced by JOLED.

What would be fucking great is if when you get a nice open world, the actual world isn’t completely window dressing and things can actually give the semblance of being immersive.

Cyberpunk, I’m looking at you. It’s all fucking well having all the lovely rays and beautiful architecture and other fun stuff, but when you populate it full of absolute fucking morons, then it kind of fucks up the illusion somewhat.

But...shiny graphics seem to be all anyone wants, so there we go.

Waste of the CPUs in those new machines so far.

Yeah, also worth noting that it makes some sense that OLED monitors are a niche product (beyond the simple base expense of producing them), in that, like plasma screens before them, they're susceptible to burn-in (albeit they take a lot more abuse than plasma screens did to reach that point). Because of that, the typical scenario for a computer monitor of regular static screens isn't a great fit for them.

Stable software.   Given the last few pages of the PS5 thread it seems the OS was put together last minute and absolutely bog all testing.  Some of the launch games seem buggy too.  But I guess that's pretty normal when they're trying to cover off multiple generations of hardware.  It's the OS level stuff that annoys.

Mega grafix creating bigger and more real worlds.

When I say real, it doesn’t have to be photo realistic or not be cartoony. Just worlds that look and feel more cohesive. Despite knowing almost nothing about it, I think Everwild looks like it could deliver something amazing.

Unless Rare make it a live service dullathon, which they could.

60fps is fine with me, I can still handle 30fps in some cases too. I’m all about the eye candy, but more impressive physics and AI and a more “open” world with more freedom would certainly be welcome.

I’m not really excited about chicken heaters though...

Well it's certainly a more exciting prospect than reduced load times.

as a father of a 3 year old and 6 month old, i welcome this combination of relaxation passtime and practicality.

I'm eagerly awaiting Tommee Tippee to launch a console with a built in baby bottle steriliser/milk warmer so i can parent and game at the same time!
