As expected the new Viagra Boys album "Jazz Welfare" is pretty fucking cool, I need to see how it stands up to repeated listens but I enjoyed listening to it whilst doing a Sainsbury's run this morning

Viagra Boys album is decent but not sure if it's going to have any legs. Could have done with fewer tracks and the filler edited out, 40 minutes is too long for an album like this - it lingers a bit where it should have been a quick, violent, in and out, like the Eighties Matchbox classic album Horse Of The Dog, 25 minutes of perfection that left you wanting to play it again immediately. 

 

New tracks from Sleaford Mods sound really good, looking forward to the new album on Friday.

 

New Tindersticks is always welcome. Album February.

Few bands seem to do this, unfortunately. Turnstiles "Time & Space" was 25 minutes long and was amazing and Fever 333 managed to do a variety of rather different songs in the 18 minutes they provided on last year's "Wrong Generation"

Listening to the new Sleaford Mods and yeah, its okay, sounds like Sleaford Mods with a couple of guest singers. That's about all you can say about it musically. Jason sings a bit more than raps. Maybe the beats are more developed. Lyrics about Brexit and the tories. Just dunno if I've got the energy to process these kind of subjects in my music as well as everywhere else. Kinda need complete escapism right now.

 

I can never get past the feeling that they absolutely peaked - and what a peak - with Jobseeker, and everything beyond that will never have the same energy or impact. No matter how powerful the words or music get, Jobseeker was an incredible statement that said everything this band ever needed to say. Them and their fans are like an echo chamber thinking about it.

Yes Sleaford Mods have lost of bit of their spitting venom and vitriol since "Divide and Exit", or maybe I've just become conditioned to it now, maybe someone that has never listened to them might find their new material a bit much at first take?

 

This was their peak I think, performing "Fizzy" at Glastonbury, but they still have legs I reckon to go further and darker. Andrew Fearn doesn't get enough props for the sound, he is always the one they say does fuck all. If you've heard Jason's version of Sleaford Mods before Andrew joined, you'd know he made all the difference

I was once at Andrew Fearn's flat when he lived in Nottingham and for some reason he had King Crimson's twelve-minute epic 'Starless' playing on repeat at full blast on the CD player in the living room, even though it was full of wasted people trying to sleep. I woke up the next morning and it was still on, maybe eight hours later.

I’m liking Spare Ribs a lot, definitely a banger IMO and hitting similar heights to Divide and Exit albeit in a different way. They’ve just developed musically and have become more accomplished musicians so are doing much more in this album. They definitely still possesses the same ability to cut through the U.K.’s ills like a scythe as they did in the punk poetry of Austerity Dogs. 
 

There is a lot of shit in society and it’s good to see musicians channel the anger into inspiration. As long as there’s Tories Sleaford Mods will always be relevant.

Friend of a friend’s band. Love what they’re doing. They’ve got some absolutely fucking banging tunes! If you’re into Rock music in any way, shape or form then check out their YouTube channel and get to one of their shows when all this bullshit finally blows over! This is their latest track......

Ok so not strictly new this year, their last album ÖB came out Oct last year, after an 11 year hiatus, and is excellent, but this performance is recent, think Roy Orbison by way of Sigur Rós, or Cigarettes After Sex produced by Phil Spector, but minus the creepiness of both :unsure:

I bought something from his bandcamp years and years ago and he took a minute to email his thanks and his hope that I'd enjoy the record (circular forms). We exchanged a few emails and it all made me very happy indeed.
