I thought it was OK if a little low effort. It seems like a missed opportunity to sequence a dozen or so broadly current tracks in Pro Tools and click send somehow. When I think of all the ways you can create 70 minutes of music with a blank canvas and carte blanche to do what you like it's lacking in surprises. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice enough listen, but it never deviates from hyper-detailed 4/4 house. Considering their influences I thought it would be more of a journey. 

 

These compilations must be difficult to make viable now though with Mixcloud about. There's thousands of people doing what they like and giving it away for free on a legal platform. I wonder how they even afford to do mix albums any more.

I like that it’s more of a current deep cut, as I was probably expecting something more vocally. There’s a mix they did for Apple Music earlier in the year which is broader musically and perhaps more what you’d expect influence wise, and that’s pretty good too. 
 

Tbh they had me at that Cleanfield track, what a song that is.

New War on Drugs album released today, listened to it on my run this morning. I liked it, a lot. 
 

edit. Listened more, their best album yet? Certainly up there, it’s just so dense with sound and layers and yet so focussed, it’s utterly excellent.

The new Beast In Black album dropped last night and it's basically a supercharged synth metal love letter to sci-fi. Not where I thought the band would go after their first, more straight ahead power metal album but they've gone full ahead in this direction and seem to be having an absolute blast with it. One of the few albums I've owned where the "no filler" label genuinely applies:

I know it's cliché to post IDLES in here, such has been the rate at which they've released music in recent years but I held off on this one because, honestly, I didn't like it at first. But it keeps coming up in various Spotify "for you" playlists and has really grown on me

Thanks @ngchol hopefully lots of people vote, it’s a great way of finding new music to listen to or catch up on anything you’ve missed or didn’t know about.

I've heard a lot of fun tunes this year, and I'll probably do another personal "best of" Spotify playlist for my own amusement... but in terms of my (current) #1, QZB absolutely nailed the same low-key moody vibe that I'd previously enjoyed in their other releases...
