Black Midi had released their new album 2 days early yesterday on all major platforms, it’s fucking ace.

Amazon completely bolloxed up my delivery today by not bothering to show up. About the only thing I've been looking forward to for months.

Hopefully tomorrow

Marlene Dietrich is just lovely, when Geordie reins it in he sings quite beautifully.

Dethroned is a standout for me too.

Lots and lots to catch up with in here!

My latest contributions:

This is really chill, I love the video too, makes me want to just play Session

This is very different, kind of Turnstile meets The Mad Capsule Markets

DoFlame - "Bat House"

You know what? The only album of this year better than Weezer's Van Weezer is Weezer's Ok Human. If you can make sense of that sentence.

Honestly, forget what you think about Weezer and listen to Ok Human. It's amazing. It's 30 minutes of your time and well worth it.

I’ll give it a go, I have no idea who they are anyway so have no preconceptions, what kind of music is it?

You have never heard of Weezer?

Never heard of them, I gave that album a whirl btw got about 4 songs in but I have to be honest, it’s not my thing at all, quite Beatles-ey with the orchestration and so on, seems well produced but just didn’t click with me.

I was interested in the “forget what you know about Weezer” comment because knowing nothing I thought my take might be interesting, sadly I have to little to say. Not really sure what I was expecting tbh.

That Weezer record is pretty nice, but I suppose it couldn't have gotten worse after that covers album.

It'll always be about the first record for me, really. It came out when I was ten and was one of the first rock records I really loved, so nothing can really compare to that. Bit unfair but y'know.

I'd have thought you would have heard this at some point in your life. This is their more normal sound.

The new black midi has blown me away this weekend - played it through at least 4 times in 2 days. Sounds great really loud too, I think its been mixed that way

I had nightmares last night after listening to it constantly, it’s that good! They are basically the best British band since Radiohead and Cavalcade is an absolute masterpiece, there I’ve said it - been thinking it for a while now.

Funny watching some reviewers get in a right twist; it’s too challenging, it’s a chore! Yeah fuck off.

Diamond Stuff is currently my favourite track, that sound.

Are you listening on digital @Stanley ? If so did you know there is an intro track on vinyl and CD just before John L  starts? It sounds like a videogame start sequence which quickly turns into guitar wailing. Its not exactly essential stuff, but it does give you a warm up before barnstorming into John L. No idea why its not on download or streaming.

Also the last echoes of the final track "Ascending Forth" sound like the last massive crescendo of "Also sprach Zarathustra" (aka 2001 Main theme)

Its hard to pick out a real standout track, its all killer no filler to me, but I really rate "Chondromalacia Patella" as an early favourite.
