A Consolevania Observation

Just a short one, but something we've noticed....

Trying to find a girl who plays games is tough. TOUGH.

We're out on the street with microphones, getting little except the odd:

"What's an X-Box?"

and

"My little brother plays them."

Because my girlfriend is into games in a big way, I thought there'd be more. I've been disappointed.

You live and learn, I suppose.

.::: Never worked in a shop then?

Slightly off-topic;

Just today we had one of those 'girl-things' asking for The Sims Another Life on PC. She said it was a new expansion pack which was being heavily promoted. Turned out after much quarreling she actually meant The Sims Bustin' Out.

Of course she then exploded in anger as she found out it was only for consoles...

God, I had a hard time keeping myself from covering the entire shop in laughter. :P

It's just all a bit sad.

Of the general public, it seems the girls don't play games but love people with video cameras, and the guys only play GTA and have shite second-hand opinions.

What a fucking surprise, eh? What a fucking surprise.

EDIT: Still, if you folk like feeling superior about your greater knowledge of games, you should enjoy the little street spots.

The problem is, you talk to your average punter in the street and you start to edge towards them, meet them halfway, and the next thing you know I'm in fucking Buchanan Street in Glasgow city centre, talking about fucking Crash Bandicoot.

Still. It's only using up our battery/tapes/LIVES.

Mmm. Another suggestion. Walk into a games shop with a tape recorder and ask for really stupid non-existant games ("BUNGO BUNGO CAT THROW!") and see how long it takes for you to get chucked out

Or how about getting someone who has never played games before and record them playing games for the first time? You can be there to help, explaining what is what etc That'd be pretty l33t.

When i worked in GAME some of the staff would phone the other GAME near by and ask for stupid games, we managed to get one poor girl to find out when Stephen hawkins pro wheel chair racer was due for release on the PSX. It took her 5 mins to get an answer of 'Its not on our release lists'. Murry Walkers F1 driving simulation which we explained as a game where you became murry walker was also one which they looked for. Ah happy memories.

 I AM right here you know

Im confused by your statement, i said all girls that play games are nice ones, lil rude girls do not play computer games to my knowlege (or at least dont have an active interest in it...or any hobbies really) So in fact it was a compliment, very rare to get from me...possibly.

Let me ask a question: the girls you approached, did you approach them because they looked like they might be game players, or because they're fit?

Not that I'm saying anything about female game players, my girlfriend is one after all.

If you look at the way that you phrased it it could easily be taken that most girls I know that play games are nice but others are rude :P I've been acused of being cocky and rude a lot here because I voice opinions ;)

Im guessing you dont understand the description of a rude girl, its mainly an essex word, basically a girl in a short skirt, tits hanging out (especially in winter), around 14-18, hair stuck down to head, walks like a barbie doll and has more makeup on than a tranny. They also enjoy blazing squad, typing in text speak and not talking to you unless you wear burberry.

And just because you voice an opinion doesnt make you rude, rude girls are totally different to someone being rood/cocky.

My wife hates games. When she had her laptop, she just played Solitare. For hours.

In fact, that applies to all the girls i went out with.

I always found (when i went to the coast) that girls who hung around the South Coast seaside arcades (in the eighties) were a bit weird.

In fact, i guess Konami changed all that with DDR.

My wife hates games apart from the Abe's games on the PSX, which she played to completion. Didn't like Munches as it was all "weird", for weird read 3D.

Although my mother-in-law became a bit of a gamer when I gave her my old PSX, she adores the Tomb Raider games and has finished them all.
