Mario Golf Super Rush

I'm cautiously optimistic, I've loved Mario Golf games in the past and Everybody's Golf is also amazingly good. I do hope it has a mix of crazy courses as well as the regular-looking stuff, and some deeper gameplay to optionally get into.

As someone who has never gotten into Mario Golf (not from dislike, just from all the entries in the series so far having passed me by) I was rather 'meh' on this when it first appeared in the Direct, but as the trailer progressed I found myself warming up to it rapidly.  I think this might be a good place to enter the series, not just with the seemingly solid base game with the Mario bells and whistles, but the added features of the Speed Golf and the Story mode could be the icing on the cake.

I still might just wait for a preview/review or impressions before committing though.

Why does the world look so boring though? Like they have none of the Mario theming and Mario has had some beautiful worlds - you could easily inject a little of that in there and still keep it relatively vanilla in feel.

Speed golf sounds fun but might not be all that in the long-run. I dunno, I'm mixed on this - won't be pre-ordering anywho.

It looks better in that trailer than it did in the direct (maybe they up a higher quality video for the standalone trailer?) but the environments still don't look great. I just hope it plays well.

I thought that and then remembered I was live streaming on a huge TV for the direct and then watching the trailer on my phone.

Amazingly I've never played this series, or any dedicated golf game for that matter. Always had a blast with Monkey Golf in Super Monkey Ball though.

What's better out of the N64 and Gamecube games?

The n64 is a lot more like gimmicky golf in certain bits, the cube one was a lot straighter and didn't have a particularly good career mode, I think it might have even only been 1 on 1 battles rather than full tournaments but that might be my old brain.

I'm not sure if it might be rose tints all round but I remember preferring the n64 one but not played it since the cube one at all.

The best one is 100% the game boy one which is so good I played it emulated on pc to save fucking about with sitting directly under a floodlight so I could see the gb screen.

I'd be very surprised if it doesn't have its share of crazy Mario themed courses in addition to the one/s in the video.

It looks like a 2-point click control scheme rather than my preferred 3-point. Can't be bothered with motion control methods either. I'll still buy it.

Mario Golf used to offer both, depending on which button you set the power with (B instead of A?) - I'm hoping for similar here.

And yeah, I'll still buy it.

First course is usually pretty normal then it all goes very Mario-style thereafter.

A few people have mentioned that Mario golf will get less simplistic but to my memory the last console one remained a lot more boring than the n64 one that had a course which looked like yoshi in birds eye/ map view and power up areas on the course iirc. It might have even been the last handheld one but it only ever got to be the equivalent of 'there's peach's Castle', than any kind of hints at anything like a crazy golf, or any impractical courses like inside bowsers Castle with lava and stuff. The one thing I do remember, is that they have all been;

a) more traditional course wise since the n64 one

b) the story mode was the best in the gb (and I still use things it taught me in all golf games since in regards to club selection and lie) closely followed by the ds one.

I'll still buy it and they're always good fun though, I just really don't expect it to get any wackier, even if the courses will no doubt be in more Mario locations, they will probably still be quite standard in terms of fairways and greens.

That would be great. I'd much rather they just played it straight.
