Modern Retro Handheld Game Players thread

I think he means the Nexus doesn't have joysticks and buttons.

I keep seeing N64 screenshots, so how does F-Zero X play on this thing? It's damn cheap! Tempted for DC emulation too. The appeal of Skies of Arcadia or Sega Rally is almost too much, and while it's one of my favourite consoles, it is criminally neglected in favour of other retro platforms (it still doesn't feel like a retro platform!).

Amazon are taking it back unfortunately. :P And yes, I meant the Nexus 7 lacks the sticks and buttons. I'd prefer a unit with everything in one, but using an external controller isn't that much of a pain. If I didn't already have an Android tablet I'd have probably kept the JXD.

Hi! It was this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/JXD-S7800B-Console-1-8GHz-Simulators-Joysticks/dp/B00H71E5E2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1402059023&sr=8-1&keywords=JXD+S7800B+Table+PC+Game+Handheld+Console-1.8GHz+Quad+Core+2GB+RAM+7+Inch+IPS+1280x800+Screen+12+Simulators+Double+Joysticks+3+Axis+Gravity+Sensor+HDMI+OTG

That seller currently has one in stock. It's fulfilled by Amazon.

I've had 6 screen protectors arrive today if anyone is interested and wants to bung me a couple of quid or something. I don't mind splitting if you want to duke it out between you.

Yeah no problem Lorfarius, I'm at at stag do at the min but will post up as soon as I get home tomorrow. Off the top of my head though

Epsxe - for PS1 games

Reicast - for Dreamcast

And the .emu emulators for the older stuff, there a couple of quid each but there great, run at 100% full speed, have save states, play everything I've thrown at it. I use the MD one (for Master System, Megadrive etc) and the Nes one all the time

I've got it and so far it's awesome.

Really impressed with the build quality considerint the price and the origin. Might take a little getting used to in order to pull off some advanced combos in SF2 etc. but generally it's all good.

I love the Happy Chick app too! I would like though to get a newer version of Android on there and also to change the language to English UK rather than whatever its set at but that's a minor point.

My advice: if you're into retro... buy buy buy!

Cheers...

A question for all of you that have (optimally) configured your JXD7800B's: how have you installed your emulators on the system?

I quite like the Happy Chick software as a nice front-end but I'd like to be able to 'point' it to my own emulators and game folders. I don't think that's possible is it?

If not, then have you all just installed the various emulation apps that you want from the Play store and configure/launch them manually?

Cheers...

Mines here, pic of an iPhone alongside to give you an idea of size:

It feels quite weighty and seems about the same to hold as an iPad. The buttons and sticks feel very similar to a PSP and they all have a really nice feel to them, sorry not even turned it on yet  Quite impressed with it straight away considering the price.

It just gets better and better. Didn't realise that you can output via HDMI with a lead out the top straight to your TV, there's also a USB adaptor so you can attach adaptors for joysticks and even classic controllers. I've got a NES USB pad to use.

This guy does a fantastic unboxing and review of it:

I installed the custom firmware and overclocked my 7800 using the link in this guy's video.

http://boards.dingoonity.org/jxd-devices/s7800b-supercharged-v2-0-oc-reparted-ext2int-cwm-mrktfix/

I prefer this customised OS but obviously there's always a risk associated with getting it on the device.

I'm loving my 7800, especially when you consider the wealth of gaming and the decent screen for a relatively low price.
