It’s my birthday soon so after a new toy to play with, just wondering are these pick up and play out of the box or do you have to load it and program it first? And judging from what you guys have written the RG351 would play Dreamcast games just fine right?

Yes it has everything setup out of the box but long term you are better up setting up a hacked one as its much faster.

No, it's just not powerful enough.

Acceptably on some titles but the tone of your posts suggests you have higher expectations than it can deliver.

I'm glad I had a proper thorough read of this thread for research. I was wanted to get my 3 year old something retro to grow into and learn how to make Mario jump, but everywhere I looked was telling me to go all out and get a RG351 or similar.

Just ordered one of them Powkiddy v90 clam shell GBA SP things which should be perfect. He's not going to notice any tiny imperfections. Price has hiked up by a tenner since it was mentioned in September though. Thanks, Brexit.

But I can have a go on it too and hold out until Anbernic knock out something with a bit more grunt. A bunch of new platforms running smoothly seems just in reach.

Pop on some custom firmware. It smooths out the imperfections and also makes it simpler to use, with a nicer UI.

V90 turned up today and it's a lovely wee thing. Did all that custom stuff, and it was well worth it just for the simpler menu. That's going to be handy when I make the kid's micro sd with only a few things on.

Performance seems fine so far. Just did some gba, gbc and ps1 resident evil seemed to be ticking over at a decent frame rate even without any extra custom faff.

If it is dipping, I can't see it. And my kid definitely won't.

I was worried it would be too small to be comfortable for adult hands, but seems to fit quite nice. It looks cheap and flimsy but all these cheap things seem to have been put together well.

Nice, AK Bell! Your kid will be happy :)

I have a Pocketgo S30 on the way, which I'm looking forward to modding an tinkering with, then also passing to my daughter to play some of daddy's old fashioned games on :)

Just received an email from Droix here in the UK who mention that a new 351MP is due sometime in November / December.

The same as the 351M but with a 4:3 and 2 sd card slots from the V, but without the Wifi (and in two new colours)

Slightly smaller than the 351M, it seems to be a hybrid of the 351M and 351V, albeit with the same cpu (which seems to be a chance missed).

More details here...

I'm looking at dipping my toe into the handheld side. The RG351MP seems good quality but I believe it struggles with n64, Dreamcast and the like.

I'd also like something that does CPS, NeoGeo and (big ask) mame. I hear there are new and higher spec ones coming out 'soon' so what do you guys recommend?

Do most of these support save states?

Assuming the MP is the same general hardware as the P I would not consider Dreamcast and PSP "playable", N64 is on the edge but certainly isn't full speed.  They do indeed do save states though.

I just checked my v90 Powkiddy and it does a good job with NeoGeo, CPS2 and MAME (playing similar stuff to NeoGeo/CPS2).

I've been meaning to play X-Men Arcade for ages anyway and it made me pull my finger out.

Handles all the 2D scrolling stuff no bother. It's the same emulators as anything else really so has save states.

So like me, get one of them for very cheap 2D thrills while holding out for something than runs 3D better?

I'm looking at the RG351MP for the car. How does it handle CPS-II and NeoGeo? I'm not really that bothered about anything heavier, but PSOne might be nice to have depending on performance.

I just tried CPS-II (Aliens Vs Predator) and NeoGeo (Garou: Mark of the Wolves) on my RG351P and they run fine. I had to change the default emulator for NeoGeo to get it to run at all but it worked well after that. I've played a lot more PS One titles on it and it's handled everything I've tried.

I can try specific games too but my experience in general matches David's.

Im thinking of selling my RG351V. Has a gameboy decal to make it look like....well. Modded it to 351 Elec and packed with games on a 128gb card and all boxed. What do you think is a reasonable price?

I love the thing and its by far the best of these handhelds i have used(i have had 5 different types in the last 2 years) but im just not using it.

Are Droix a good site to buy one of those Anbernic handhelds from?

I reckon that if I buy one I might waste less time on YouTube looking at the latest random Chinese handhelds.

Anecdotal only obviously, but I bought mine from there and had no problems.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what's wrong with my Anbernic RG350M?

Basically the console seems to have developed a bit of a life of its own. It will play happily for about 10 mins then power off. Leave it alone for an hour and it will have powered back on. Sometimes it won't power up at all, other times it will boot itself. Occasionally the screen will exhibit some flickering.

I'm not sure if it's a battery issue or related to a slightly sticky reset button. I've had the back off but nothing looks out of place so it's gone to ebay as spares or repair. If I could get it working though I would keep it. Despite being hardly used I know I'm going to miss it.

Any ideas anyone?

I've got an RG280V and an RG351V and I can't wait for the next generation. I'll be fascinated to see what the Odin, Retroid Pocket 3 and the RG552 can pull off.

I'm not sure what's going on with the RG350M, what firmware are you using?
