I'm taking it as true. I did same as you first time, and it got boiling.

 

However, it charges fast, and cool, with a standard old style iphone charger (or off my switch dock's usb port fine).

 

It's a high quality piece of kit, but at the end of the day it's still a chinese dodgy knock off. I'm certainly not risking shorting the battery!

Also, I've been loving my Miyoo Mini on holiday - it's a brilliant device, especially now I've put Onion OS on it. But I've noticed one minor issue. When doing the mario 'hold sprint, and roll your thumb to the other button to jump, move it scrapes the jump button a bit. Mine's a V2, and I heard the V2 fixed the buttons being too tight, but yeah it's still a little issue. Still highly recommend it though.

I love my Miyoo so much. Wonderful little thing. We’re off on holiday soon and I’m thinking it’s the only thing I’ll be taking with me. The RG351P is great for GBA stuff but I’ve been preferring to play them on the Miyoo. Even though the res doesn’t scale perfectly, the pixel density is high enough to never notice, and the colours look better to my eyes.

 

There are downsides of course - it has no sticks and the shoulder buttons are useless - but it’s fine for the games I enjoy.

I took my Steamdeck, Switch and Miyoo Mini.

 

95% of my play was on the Miyoo. Shouldn't have bothered with the others.

I couldn't resist, so I've jumped on the Retroid 3 train. Just looks like a really cool device.

 

But I've never got involved in this world before. Is there an idiot beginners guide to the world of the retro handheld anywhere? Is there anything I should be doing ahead of time to prep?

I didnt have a notion about retro gaming devices until I got the RP 2+. I followed the Retro Games Corps guide on youtube and it was really easy.

I see the RG353V is available to pre order has anyone pre ordered one? I already have the RG351V, so debating selling that and getting the newer model which has android and touchscreen.

 

The one thing I don't like though is the placement of the dual analogue sticks so not sure what to do 🤔

I only managed to sit down with it last night for any length of time.

 

Bearing in mind I am absolutely starting from square 1 here, last night was a solid... 4hrs? of getting myself to the point where the device started to do what I wanted. And even then there have been a lot of teething issues - a driving game that didn't recognise the dpad in game, the A button being completely useless in any GBA title, etc. But I'm getting there and yeah, it's a really, really, really nice bit of kit.

Honestly the more you tinker with these things the easier everything gets, and I strongly recommend building your own romsets etc so you just have exactly what you want on it, all killer no filler.

Happy to help if you get stuck on anything.

I am playing advance wars while I cook, I love it.

Honestly, it looks pretty shite. A smaller screen than the already small Miyoo Mini, a huge body-to-screen ratio, and no L2/R2 (although these are quite difficult to press on the Miyoo, in all fairness). The Miyoo is about £50/60 too, it’s super lovely, and the screen is gorgeous.

Ordered one of the new vertical handhelds from Anbernic. Went for the RG353VS, which can only run Linux as opposed to Linux and Android, but I just don’t see the point in running Android on something that isn’t powerful enough for PS2/GC and doesn’t have a 16:9 display for game streaming etc. Droix said the Android implementation is pretty janky too.

 

Never been into the vertical ones, but after loving the Miyoo form factor I think I prefer it for retro stuff. Love the look of the new one too.

Depending on how much I like it, I’ll probably sell my RG351P and maybe even my Miyoo Mini (:ph34r:) as I definitely own too many handhelds now.

Steam Deck is the answer. 

 

I did get VT from Dreamcast on my RG351m also. But not the greatest performance.
