I'm finding this game headache inducingly complicated. I am supposed to be able to choose what weapons and things I want here, or am I just blocked for some reason? Tried x2 different matches with this and gave up

Thats a bug....i had that yesterday. Didn't last though for me.

Think it's a bug, I had it the other day where I couldn't change anything. Thankfully it was back to normal the next match and I've not had it since, don't think I did anything to fix it.

I get it consistently every 2nd game I try, it's absolute wank

Unplayable in its current state in any mode

I don’t remember getting shot in the back so much in battlefield 4. It’s a bit shit.

Yeah, 11 days in and the best conclusion I can come to is "the maps are shit and this is boring". There's definitely something you could do with 128 player servers that would be great, but this isn't it. Some of the control points are literal radio masts on literal hills with no cover around them. Huge expansive, completely flat open areas that you either need to traverse without getting murdered or sit in to try and hold them.

Attacking spawns on Breakthrough are within 10 seconds of air support range for the first batch of objectives, while defending forces vehicles are miles away. While the flow of maps is slowly changing (demonstrating people are learning tactics to get around the terrible layouts and designs) every map plays broadly the same every time. It's like a new generation of level designers joined DICE, but their only exposure to BF was 24/7 Metro servers.

That they've now nerfed XP gains in Portal adds to the pain - that is almost great, but I'm now being punished for playing in there because it breaks their future Battle Pass plans.

Not my words Carol, the words of Patrick Soderlund, ex-CEO of DICE.

I genuinely think there is a mode somewhere in Battlefield that could accommodate this, but it also needs stellar map design. Bear with me:

  • Take the Frontlines game mode (or even standard Breakthrough)
  • Build a great map that has two paths through it (these new maps have plenty of space to do that on)
  • Split the player count between those paths; Infantry and Vehicles cannot switch, or interact (use natural features or map design or overground/underground to support it).
  • Aircraft can go between the two, but the spawn rules mean the best you could do is fly over, die once and then you're back in your path.
  • have each path battle through to the end in a 32vs32 context
  • the final point is a full 64vs64 map in some way (a climax!)

I readily admit that might be shit, but Frontlines was fantastic and by building on it with two paths you could create interdependencies that make each forces position better/worse in some way (environmental shifts) and create a more dynamic battlefield.

I dunno. It seems like a surmountable problem, but critically it's entirely dependent upon good map design, and I am not seeing that in this initial batch of maps.

Not true, Planetside 2 can be amazing and with a lot more than 128 players. It all depends on the game mode at which you decide to throw any number of players.

I still say that my wet FPS dream is Planetside 2 having a baby with Battlefield. Think Planetside 2 games modes and MMO like persistent progression combined with the gunplay and aesthetics of Battlefield. 🤤

I've barely played this so have yet to formulate an opinion but I find the whole 'climate change related extreme weather events' to be peak late stage capitalism and a little bit sickening. To reduce a serious problem that threatens the continuation of our species down to a new feature in the latest installment of a multiplayer FPS is weird and tone deaf. Maybe it's just me who thinks that.

I’ve played a lot of this now (beta / pre release / full release) and I’m enjoying it a lot. Once you get past learning the huge maps and certain weapons that need fixed by the devs it’s actually really good. The diversity of being able to fine tune an operator and / or their weapon was a decent design choice. Getting away from K / D and scoreboards is inspired. Makes it feel like a team game, as in a giant team. There’s a battle to be won and that’s the main thing ultimately. Visually it looks great on PS5.

PC version is still completely terrible for me. Never did get acceptable performance for long. It’s now worse and barely loads without a multitude of problems.

Well assault rifle(s) are much more usable now, only played one game as the first game gave me the "empty loadout"-bug, so only managed to try the first of the ARs. But there was a clear difference in effectiveness, now it was possible to kill people at ranges above 5 M.

That no-one plays Hazard Zone is a given I guess but is anyone playing Portal to any extent?

I really don't see the point, to me it is still just a mess of servers with unfun rules 98% of the time.

Sure DICE have made 4 game modes but I don't really see why I would play old games with prettier graphics. They should have focused on their main mode and released it with more and better maps.

I'm so glad to see someone else enjoying the game. By no means am I saying this is a classic Battlefield (for me, BF3, BC2, Hardline and 1 remain the top dogs) but when you get round the bugs and "game the system" to a certain extent this is a highly enjoyable version.

One of the things I have a huge appreciation for that I know is getting slammed everywhere is the specialist system. I actually think it gives you the opportunity to play in a highly organised, highly tactical squad with the right loadouts and right teamwork (for instance, Rao + 2 with AA makes you the squad to negate air superiority and that right there is your role). Equally as well, this is one of the only BF games where you can reliably play solo with the team goal in mind and actually succeed.

I hear some of you saying "But that's not the game!" - but is it not a good thing that it's more accessible (particularly for those of us with young children who can no longer communicate effectively with our squadmates for fear of waking them up)?

Recent patch has made some improvements, but I'm torn with this game. It's far more enjoyable playing the Portal games, but nothing unlocks or levels up when you play these, so you are forced to play the 128 versus modes (and the confusing data drives thing) to get anything beyond the default set of weapons

As a consequence I have play a set of modes I hate to progress in modes that are enjoyable.

I thought you could get XP in Portal? Albeit not as much as on the normal modes.

Play the 128 player mode on co-op or solo. You go against bots only and still unlock stuff.

Custom modes are locked down aren't they? You have to play the DICE modes to advance I think.

Ah, so, you can play the Portal playlists without going into the server browser and you definitely get XP (just checked with a round of BC2 Rush), but its a massively reduced amount.

Can't say for the server browser games.

It was bugger than ever before yesterday (Series X).

I played 4 games of 128 player Conquest. Every game had the loadout bug. One game crashed just before ending, and put me back at the main console menu. One game had the deploy bug so I had to leave before it started. Two games had deteriorating performance at the end, with one game being unplayable for the last 5 minutes, with a like 5 FPS framerate and 5-10 second long freezes.

Unlocked the 3:rd AR though which seemed really nice.
