Cheers, any way of checking what devices that’s working on as it doesn’t seem to be on either my Sky Q box or Apple TV 4K. Is it browser only?

I have a Samsung UE43NU7470.  Doesn't look like it's listed on that page, but I've signed in and it's offered me the UHD option - works fine.

Turkey looked knackered after 20 minutes.

I thought Italy were quite poor.

Italy were given loads of space so it's easy to look good with space. Looking good against a poor side doesn't mean you're World beaters. Immobile is a proper striker though.

This whole continent Euros is so lifeless. I guess this was always good to be the case in a pandemic but it’s just set the tone for the future of the tournament. I’ll always enjoy a bit of competitive football on tv but the reason I fell in love with world cups and Euros as a kid was the whole cultural flavour of each tournament, how every host gave it it’s own carnival atmosphere that swept through the build up to the games and seeped into the stadiums. It’s the character and lifeblood of these tournaments that make the whole event exciting. I remember the past competitions through the country they were played in.

There is no flavour here, just dull corporate mouthwash. Even post pandemic it’s going to feel not much more than a series of qualifiers.

Just me killing the vibe.

They only planned to host it across Europe for Euro 2020 for the 60th anniversary of the European Championships, nothing to do with the pandemic and not something they're repeating.  It's a one-off.

Quite poor, wtf? They won 3-0, had about 30 shots to 1, two thirds of the ball, and never looked like conceding.

Yeah Turkey were bad but Italy can only play what's in front of them.

Jesus. This Turkey side beat Holland 4-2 a few months ago. They got battered tonight by a team who haven't lost in over 20 matches. They're probably not as good as France and a couple of others but they're a very, very solid team.

Italy won't go far. They played a really poor side and before an own goal, didn't look like scoring.

Holland aren't a good side anymore.

I liked how they had Chiellini taking the goal kicks. Can't remember seeing that before as a tactic.

It’s quite often the tactic in school footballer matches where the goalkeeper can’t kick it properly.

It's properly odd. Just a weird mishmash of people and nothing seems planned. So they get Rob Beckett out and ask him to comment on the little car that drove the ball out. And he has nothing to say other than "it was a bit weird wasn't it?" because it was a bit weird wasn't it?

I think it’s trying to be quite laddy but in an ultra sanitised way so it doesn’t really work. Tony Adams won’t be allowed back as he seemed to go off-script at one point and blurted out something about Alex Horne’s little hairy flag in an ill advised attempt at humour. If anyone was still watching they may have been mildly offended.

Crouch is good value though.

Does anyone know a good source of highlights for people living abroad? It kicked off at 4am here and I didn't seem Italy-Turkey to be vital enough to watch (I'll save that for England games and the knockout stages).

The YouTube ones are, to be blunt, shoddy in quality due to having a sudden jump forward every few seconds. I did quite enjoy the Generic Euro-language commentary though as it sounded Partridge-esque. Would prefer English through through BBC or ITV, though I don't think anything of theirs will be getting uploaded and accessible legally here.

If you don't mind a brief highlight of the games, then the BBC Sport channel on YouTube is alright. Not sure if it region locked where you are located, but here is the video from last nights match to check for you:

But if you are after more comprehensive footage, I can't advise exactly how but if you searched online for the words 'footballhighlights reddit' I'm sure you will find a place that can provide what you are looking for :)

It certainly raises an eyebrow, but I wonder how much of it is to do with the expanded formats?  It's now all about "the finals" where the summer tournament is the show, but that's a relatively recent development in the Euros, in the 60s and 70s there were only four teams in the finals because the qualifying tournament was a bigger deal than the precession it is now, so there were fewer games and a higher quality of opposition.  It was only really from Euro 96 (which admittedly was still a while ago now) that the tournament opened up beyond the absolute best sides playing each other in the summer.

Not as much as you'd think. They only qualified three times prior to the expansion to 16 teams, and one of those was as hosts in 1980, where they only won one game (against England, of course - there's only so low a team can go).

They've been at every Euros since '96, playing 27 times in that time before last night. They just haven't historically scored many goals at the Euros, for whatever reason - 39 in 38 matches is a very stingy return.

This game makes you realise how much the summer tournaments at this stage are about stadia full of screaming fans generating all the excitement as 2 shite teams go thru the motions in boiling heat.

Remove the crowd and it's about as exciting as a dead end of season rubber between 2 poor teams.

These opening stages are going to be a bit of an endurance test as the chaff gets weeded out
