I'm going early on the thread for this but it seems the rumours are growing of an imminent pre E3 release announcement for this.

It makes sense as has been rumoured for a long time and the release schedule later this year is not exactly stuffed full of big titles.

Can't imagine how hard these will be to get hold of if the PS5 and latest Xbox are anything to go by.

I'm still at the point that any new Nintendo console gets bought, so simply upgrading games to 4k and a redesign of the handheld bit itself will be enough to have me hammering refresh on Amazon the day pre-orders go live.

I was using the Lite the other day and was slightly bemoaning the fact that the screen was pretty small. Perhaps not small, but compared to the form factor the screen had quite a lot of bezel around it. I'd really quite like the Lite as it is but really with a screen that takes up the entire portion of the middle part of the console.

I'm in, as soon as I can get one from Argos.

Eagerly await news on whether it'll have exclusive games, or just upscaling / better performance, but if it's the latter, of course the good news is that you'll still be able to use an existing Switch until scalping dies off.

Don't think there is any way the games will be exclusive, not for first party titles, they can't throw away that installed base.

I'm expecting dual formats like the last Zelda which was out for Wii & Switch.

This, along with a built in SSD would be great.

I think it’s been confirmed by a couple of different sources it’s only the Switch that is getting an upgrade, and it’ll be sold alongside the existing Lite. But I would like to be wrong, an OLED Lite would be like the perfect successor to the PS Vita.

From EG:

Switch manufacture has been difficult over the past year, Bloomberg says, with part shortages affecting manufacture. But the Switch is able to avoid the more serious chip shortages which have affected PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S as it uses different components.

This is Nintendo - you either get in on the launch hype or wait for the inevitable hardware revision ;)

Congrats to 2018 me for predicting the obvious. (Although I didn't think it would be unveiled this year...)

I'm still way behind on the new-gen - the most modern thing I own is an OG PS4 - but with everyone else having stock (and chip) shortage issues and this announcement being inevitable, I'm content to wait and see.

If this comes out this year it will have to release alongside something major, and if that something isn’t Breath of The Wild 2, Metroid Prime 4 or Mario Kart 9, then I don’t see the point.

Series X launched just fine despite essentially launching existing games with patches for more shinies.

True, it’s not Nintendo’s style though, I don’t see them releasing this new Switch until there’s a reason to, not with the current model still selling so well.

I could be wrong but I don't think new 3DS launched with anything substantial either? Just an improved hardware experience and Amiibo (which you can still do on the old model with a septette reader). But I think there will be more tangible benefits to Switch Pro so they'll want to push it harder.

I reckon we'll see a similar sized machine with an OLED screen (please), HDR in both modes, 4k upscaling when docked and patches for major releases (BotW etc). They might well improve the joycons (which wouldn't be hard) but I would guess you'll still be able to link the old ones and vice versa.

New 3DS launched alongside the 3D remake of Majora’s Mask, but apart from improved 3D and the analogue nub, which should have been there from the start and as a proper second analogue stick, it was pretty much the same machine just a bit nicer and a bit faster.

If this is going to cost more, be more powerful, 4K and all the rest of it then I’d imagine they will have a game to push it with, if not then I can imagine them waiting until they do.

And if you look at their schedule for this year, apart from Pokemon in November it’s pretty much a blank slate, so I’m hoping that means something big.

The switch is one of the greatest consoles ever and this will be even better. I’m so in for this. Hardware revisions by Nintendo are always awesome.

Hopefully it will launch with an N64 game online service with an N64 style 6 face button controller, and a new Mario Odyssey game.

Can you honestly see Nintendo engineering the Switch Pro to buff its existing titles Series-style? Can you see them doing something like frame rate boost?

I just... can't. They just don't seem that kind of company, considering they make the bear minimum effort with re-releases, treating their back catalogue like a rare diamond mine that we should be eternally grateful for, making their old ROMs unnecessarily rare or expensive.

First party games going forward will take advantage of it, though I don't think there'll be that much difference. And you will likely get a better screen.

The New 3DS was a pretty pitiful update that barely saw any additional buffs or features, right? I have one and didn't notice any difference bar the second stick.

I may be wrong, but I think people are expecting too much from it. I can't see them going for 4K anyway. They are remarkably unwilling or inept when it comes to adapting latest tech, and I find Japanese companies a step behind in general. Nintendo are more stubborn and old-fashioned than most too.

Lots of Switch games use dynamic resolution or frame rate; for those you would at least get “PS5-style” upgrades where the new hardware lets it run at the resolution and frame rate cap.

Regarding launch titles, the Switch Lite launched with A Link to the Past. Actually, so did the GBA SP now I think about it. The DS Lite got Tetris DS I think? They have a track record of having some exciting but not tentpole release there for a hardware refresh.

I'm torn because I don't actually like the Switch much - it's uncomfortable to hold, has a horrible reflective screen and feels extremely underpowered these days. I know I should like it, but I don't.

Switch Pro is either going to resolve these problems and give me what I wanted all along, or it's going to basically be me buying a new version of something I already know I dislike. It could go either way.

I’m sure it will sell out but I doubt we’ll see insane demand like PS5 and series X, It’s just a mid gen upgrade vs brand new console so I doubt there will be the same hunger.

Though the series X felt a bit like a mid gen upgrade to me at launch.

What I’m saying is that I have no idea.

I'm pretty satisfied with the Switch as-is but I'd like if a more powerful model allowed for video capture to be available for all games, and not restricted to 30 second, heavily compressed clips.

I'll buy the updated model regardless.
