Yes, completely unnecessary upgrade Nintendo - must do better.

Oh balls, Smyths have sold out of the white one.

This is the thing. I feel like they could release any semi-decent looking thing these days, and they'll sell like hotcakes. Whether or not they'll all end up on eBay for stupid prices, we'll have to wait and see.

I think the system looks great. I'd love one, but I already have a Switch and £309.99 is a bit too steep for a system that released in 2017, for me anyway.

In truth even if I got a pre-order I'd probably cancel at some point in the future. I dunno, my daughter's been going on about getting a Switch so I could give her mine but this is  some tenuous justification. I do love an OLED screen on a handheld though.

I don't use my Switch enough in portable mode at the moment to justify the OLED version.

I must admit when I first got my Switch I was initially taken aback how large the black bezel was around the screen and why it couldn't extend to the edge, looks like the OLED extends that a bit. They also seem to fix the fact the stand at the back was a bit poor

OLED screens, do they draw more power from the battery?

Personally I think that sounds like a decent excuse - give her the old one, then get a shiny new one!

Tenuous?!  Tenuous?? Don’t tell my wife these views as I prepare the groundwork for purchase….

Also, is there anywhere cheap for Metroid Dread?

Less.

Depends, no? OLEDs power draw varies on screen luminance whereas LCD's are constant. On phones if you've set everything to dark display then OLEDs might draw a little less power but for most gaming I think your average power consumption will be slightly higher than LCD.

Apparently you can buy the new dock separately from Nintendo's online store.  Thinking about it though is there any real benefit?

The internal USB port is now a LAN port which seems like a downgrade as you could have just used a LAN adaptor if you wanted & use other USB accessories if you don't.

It has better ventilation? Has that ever been a problem with the current dock?

It looks sleeker... I think?

Smyths have reopened preorders for home delivery on white and neon systems, at time of typing…

Somewhere between 1.5x and double the power consumption in most benchmarks, for TVs at least. Of course on a device the size of the Switch, the screen is unlikely to be the biggest power drain, and the screen in the existing model might be relatively old and power-hungry tech.

They’ll gradually increase allocations as time goes on too. Game and Smyths will have more pre-orders, no doubt about it.

It’s like when a music event has about 3 tickets in the first release so when you see the second release go on sale a few mins after sales open you panic.

I think Nintendo have updated the wrong machine really given that the primary difference is the bigger screen.

I've always felt that the Switch Lite should have had a bigger screen bolted in and less bezel. I find it very noticeable how the same form factor could accommodate a larger screen.

Putting a bigger screen in the Switch is fine but by definitely this machine may be used docked a lot so may not actually matter too much. The Switch Lite as a portable would have really gained by the same form factor but bigger screen.
