Okay, so Brad, Vinny and Alex formerly of Giantbomb fame just set up their new podcast/patreon/twitch, so thought I'd start this so we can branch out of the Giantbomb thread which is where all the discussion of their new venture is at the moment. They're supposed to be doing their first Twitch stream later tonght. Episode 0 of their new podcast is up in the usual places.

Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/nextlander/

Looking forward to new series' of CastleVinnia and FMVinny.

Oh nice. Will keep an eye on this. Bet they don't struggle to get Patrons

I think the three of them will work wonderfully well together on their own thing.

It's already on 5000 after launching a few hours ago.

I wonder how long it’ll be before the Jeff’s quit GB and join this. Having effectively just sold the GB name.

In my humble opinion the best GB duo after Jeff and Ryan was Jeff and Vinny. Those two next to each other without a script is guaranteed fun times. I think the current lineup of Nextlander is already excellent but I'd be very happy if it became the 4 of them together. No more, just those 4.

Brad must be coining it in. At the moment, there are 8,656 Nextlander patrons subscribing for a minimum of £4 a month. That's an absolute minimum income of £34,624. Less Patreon's 8% cut, that's £31,854. And of course, in reality it'll be much, much more than that because of how many people will be subscribing at the higher tiers.

Brad also has his 'Brad and Will Made A Tech Pod' Patreon. That has 2,501 patrons at a minimum of £2 per month. £5,002 less Patreon's cut is £4,602, and again there are higher tiers available so the real income will be more.

Brad gets 1/4 of the minimum £31,854 (£7,963.50) plus 50% of the minimum £4,602 (£2,301). That's a nice £10,265 per month.

I'm sure that Nextlander will have a bunch of business costs associated with it, particularly while they're starting things up, but I can't see them taking up anything like the extra money that will be received at the bonus tiers!

No wonder the 3 of them left Giant Bomb... financially alone, they're going to make a killing as long as they can keep the GB audience on board.

Is anybody still watching there stuff?

I dip in on occasion, but not having a "Coming Up" box like they would on Giantbomb makes it hard to plan when to watch. I also personally don't think the trio of Vinny, Brad and Alex has quite gelled for me. Alex's disdain for most things is a bit grating on the podcast. I mean, Jeff does it, but he has a way with words that still makes it entertaining even when he's shitting on something I like.

I watched their E3 stuff (after I watched the Giantbomb stuff live) and it was a the group of Vinny, Austin and Patrick that I found the best grouping. They were funny and actually followed what was going on with the press conferences. Unlike Brad who would ask "what is this?" two minutes after they first revealed the name.

And a final thought. I find it very odd that a reason they left giantbomb was so they could do the stuff they wanted to do. Because so far we have FMVinny, the return of Sea Beasts and a bunch of, let's face it, Vinny + Brad games. Very odd. I fully expect an Alex drum stream sometime soon.

Anyway, their latest show with some Tia Carrera game was good!

@Gambit I thought this would be a no brainer and I subbed immediately when they announced the new venture. But so far I've found it pretty underwhelming. The podcast is growing on me more and I enjoyed the stuf about the new(ish) Switch. But I really can't be arsed with all the Patreon shout outs. Yes I'm paying for it but I really can't be arsed if they say my name or not.

Videowise I tried to watch one the other day, the 40K hiveworld thing but got sick of Vinny fucking with his new toy as far as slowing down clips on the stream.

Yeah, I'm hoping they are still finding their feet a bit.

I was hoping they'd immediately somehow pull a Vinnyvania and a "Vinny plays Assassin's Creed" show and a "Brad and Vinny play a Brad and Vinny game like Astroneering" show out, but they haven't yet. Maybe it's not their favourite stuff to do, which would be a shame for me. What I want is to watch one of them playing through a game from start to finish while they all joke around.

But it's still early days.

They do seem to be filling in their Twitch Schedule.

I think it's going to be a while before they're really settled in, as most of their time so far seems to have been taken up by clearing technical and administrative hurdles. It would appear their launch was a lot more successful than expected, which is obviously a good problem to have but does mean they're having to scale up what's being offered whilst making everything sustainable if there's a precipitous drop-off.

Personally I'm not a subscriber because I've no interest in all the Discord stuff; I have enough awkwardness in my life without paying for live Q&As. I'd probably be into the Ramblecast, but for that you need to pay for the intermediate tier which at £9.60 a month is pretty hard for me to justify.

Either I've just been beaten down by their streams, or things are better than they were. I'm actually enjoying Full Motion Vinny again, and their State of Decay series is good too. Could still do with a bit more.... something from them though I don't exactly know what. I just want the energy they used to have during Astroneering or Vinnyvania or Kerbal.

I'm currently watching Vinny play Rimworld which is fine, but he really needs someone else to bounce off I think. He's still really personable and watchable but just a bit more subdued.

I’ve stopped my subscription for now. I quite enjoyed the Ramblecast but it’s not worth almost a tenner a month.

Their Q&As have potential but because they do them live they can’t weed out any duff questions and more often than not they don’t have anything to say.

Yeah, I'd love it if they had Dan, or Austin, or Abby involved too. They get Abby in some of the streams - Back 4 Blood and Sea of Thieves, and I always enjoy those.

I certainly wouldn't swear to this, but I get the feeling from things that have been said before that Dan's a fucking nightmare to work with. Just occasional mentions (by him, as well as other people) about how challenging it is being his line manager. And his show ideas aren't always great *cough*Burgle*cough* but there's no denying that he's enthusiastic, watchable and entertaining. Does he still work for WWE?

Austin would be great, but his new job in game dev probably wouldn't let him. Mine wouldn't (not that I'd want to do that, or that anyone would ever watch me if I did!)

I'm sure @murray mentioned something on TGCS when he changed jobs, along the lines of not commenting on stuff with conflict of interests. @elmo is that the case?

Yeah, my contract is full of that stuff. Can't say anything critical of the studio in public, can't do outside projects that are even vaguely related to games (even for free) without running it past studio management first. Certainly can't do anything paid (like a Patreon) to do with games without their approval.

We mentioned it yeah but it turns out that we just make a big joke of it on every show at this point.

I cancelled my £8 tier sub the other month too.

I was hoping for good things but it just all felt incredibly directionless and flat and I quickly found myself not giving a fuck whenever I got a notification that they were streaming. I definitely agree that Vinny could do with a Jeff/Dan/Austin-alike to bounce off of. Alex and Brad just ain't up to the task. I think Drew could be great choice to bring on board but isn't he working at a dev studio these days too?
