This is a sad place these days. You’ll be pleased to hear I’m done on this topic.

I have, I bought a 360 for Forza & Horizon but after FH3 on PC I gave up with it. Doesn’t mean I never want to jump back in if I think it’s something I’d enjoy though.

stop saying objectively wrong things then. Support your arguments instead of pretending to flounce then carrying on posting :D

People have differing opinions you know, perhaps the videos are not demonstrating the things have moved on since FH3 but nobody has said that. I shouldn’t ask but what is objectively wrong about what I’ve said?

I told you already and so did Layte we both picked you up on precisely the same (wrong) point  - you said

It does but that’s more like an over the top blockbuster film (e.g. Fast & Furious) not sure why that couldn’t go along with different surface interaction when on the ground.

That is objectively wrong as the cars do handle differently depending on the interaction with the surface. Different surfaces mean different handling and certain cars and tunes are better on certain surfaces because the cars handle differently as they interact differently with each surface

EDIt - and if you mean "visually" you are wrong as well - look a tthe video again the supercar on road is smooth and back end doesn't kick out... when on gravel/dirt in corners the back end kicks out more the dust rises and the car bumps up and down.

Ok perhaps I should have used the phrase significantly differently. It’s just an opinion.

With that wording then that certainly is a subjective opinion... your original definitive wording was objectively wrong and not an opinion.

Also they react significantly different enough that people write articles about the best off road cars and tunes for cars for use off road in FH4.

If you want an ultra realistic offroad racing game I am sure there are some around.

Indeed! Well said. Forza Horizon series has never had a focus on realism. Ever. OK they used bits of the FM physics engine at some points but realism? C'mon. :D Anything but. That is why its so much FUN. Regardless of how cars react to different surfaces etc... jeez. Swear sometimes the console threads are getting as tedious and as anal as some PC game threads at times.

Its about having fun isn't it... or at least... it was... :D

poor draw distance, sharp trees, 5/10

Shhhhhhhhh.... Don't start them off again.... Wonder how well the particle physics is done on the dust? How realistically does it adhere to the car... does it alter the drag co-efficient appropriately...  :D

More like the Forza Horizon Defence Force. It’s a discussion forum, I don’t think anything I’m saying is that controversial, there are plenty games that get criticised for rehashing the same basic gameplay. The whole racing genre is stagnating, sequels to popular franchises but little new or innovative. Wreckfest is one exception imo, GT Sport was innovative in console multiplayer but will GT7 really move things on from GT6? Will Forza 8(?) just be prettier graphics, wait and see if the improved tyre physics are significant? Whether you like it or not the DualSense is one of the big innovations for console racing games and the games come alive with surface changes, damage etc.

Genuine questing but what has GT sport done that’s innovative in console multiplayer? The series is possibly the most stale series around with the same barriers to play as the day it launched on the original PlayStation and i dont recall anything in the MP side that innovates?

I think the most Gran Turismo is a lot harder than the days of GT1 on PSX.

On the first one you just bounced off the side to go round some of the corners or your opponent without losing much speed. You get penalised for such japes these days.

The whole registering, qualifying, FIA Championships, Manufacturer allegiances, Safety Ratings etc. was much slicker than anything before on console and more akin to an iRacing type system. Don’t shoot me if Forza 5,6,7 has this too lol. I don’t disagree with the mainline GT series being stale (that’s my opinion of FH after all, so would be odd to say otherwise), following the same format of Licences etc. but I’m hopeful that 7 will at least incorporate the MP structure and improved handling of Sport, improve the AI and shake things up a bit. GT Sport proved they can do something outside of the norm. Although based on the reception that GT Sport got from the vocal I think many just want more of the same.

Yep I get that, trouble is Horizon hasn’t really evolved other than better graphics.

As someone who is replaying FH1 while also dipping back in FH4 at times, this is mad.

Well VR for me is the next major step in racing games. PSVR2 + GT7 is been pre-ordered as soon as I can. Really looking forward to it.

VR is, no question, the biggest major thing to happen to realistic driving games since the force feedback wheel.

Obviously it's difficult to convey on a flat video but just looking into the corners, feeling that toyota at the start coming past in your peripheral etc.

I never played the first one but I’d generally agree with that. 2,3,4 are all functionally the same. Not that that’s a bad thing but probably why I enjoyed 2 the most because it was very fresh.

2 and 4 function the same?

The game that forces you into a European road trip for races vs the one with a huge number of stories, character customisation, seasonal events, seasons themselves, houses.  They're functionally the same in the same way FH2 and The Crew are maybe.

They function the same in that they're broadly open world driving games but that's about it. What is it you want them to do differently that wouldn't make it not Forza Horizon anymore?

I think they are functionally the same in that you have a big open world and compete in different classes of races using different classes of cars. The character customisation didn’t really do anything gameplay wise from what I can recall, neither did having houses. The season changes were cool, though.

I didn’t say I want them to do anything different. I just said I enjoyed the second one the most because it was very new to me and by the time I played 4 it felt a bit samey. That’s fine, it’s just the kind of game it is and my own tastes.

hi guys just popping in to say I didn't watch the latest trailer because I am 100% in on this day 1 for the Ultimate Edition, I can't wait to spend the next couple of years on the new Horizon. Looks amazing, great series, massive hype.

Yeah I'm watching no media now, especially actual gameplay.

Despite what I just said though, while I'm entirely on board for just a new map I haven't seen anything that makes 5 evolve from 4 the same way the others have for me so it'll be interesting discovering if I'm wrong there.

I was hoping for Japan but I'm happy for them to keep that for a purely next gen version using the new Forza engine. I just hope that the map delivers a lot of variety, seasons was the best addition for me in a long time. I hope they put back proper championships again for those who want them.

Could have a true off roader mode where you need a winch on the front of your car for every time you fall in a ditch.

Already exists and is even free on GamePass:

Spoiler

(yes I’m being slightly non-serious - it would be quite a stretch to call Snowrunner a racing game)
