I now have 999 skill points to spend which must be from this as I had no more than 100 before.  The super wheelspin seems to have been removed from a load of cheap cars, the firebird trans am gta now has forza points in that slot for example.  It was hardly an exploit in the first place, buying cheap cars to use up skill points on.  Also no way have I done anywhere near 900 points worth of 'buying' super spins so they must have nurfed and refunded a whole load of skill mastery stuff.

Oh and just noticed that super spins are way less super now, there are loads and loads more very small credit 'prizes' in them 🤬

Not sure if its patch related but I discovered 2 new regions since updating it, I have now found 58 of 56 🤪

I got about 299 points back. I'm not sure why, as I've never consciously run any exploits. Should come in handy for completing some of the car mastery accolades, I guess.

Those prize reductions seem disappointing. There must be better ways to balance things.

I'm just not feeling this, I loved the previous iterations but I'm bored. I don't know why but it's not grabbing me the way the others were. I might delete it until the the DLC comes out. 100gb of hard drive space is a lot on a Series S that could be used for something else.

999 seems to be the max skill points you can have so I must have lost some in the process 😢

I randomly looked at the mastery tree on a few of my cars and its mostly the cheaper super wheelspins that are all gone.  I did spot a really strange one though where the reward in the very first slot had been refunded but the remainder of the slots I had opened up remained unlocked giving an "impossible pattern".  Allowed be to re-buy it and get 6,000 xp for 1 point so not all bad!

First slots are never wheelspins and almost always XP so no longer why they thought they needed to refund it.

They seem to have been reduced on regular wheelspins too, am seeing prizes as low as 2,000 now.  Am going to hold off from using my spins for now and hope they put it back to more like it was, they seem to have massively over nerfed it.

Yeah I've absolutely loved and hammered all of the other games in the series but this was just one too many for me I think. Don't get me wrong I still finished the campaign and put 20 odd hours into it but that goes nowhere near the 100's of hours put into 2,3 and 4. Hopefully the next game will freshen things up a bit but I can't see that happening with the review scores this got. And justifiably so, it's very clearly the best version of this thing. It's just I've played a hell of a lot of this thing so going through it all again turns my brain off pretty quickly.

I'm jealous of those for who this is their first Horizon though, what an introduction to a truly fantastic series.

Yeah, I skipped FH3 I think and only picked up 4 when the pre-release hype for 5 was building.  I think they are too samey to get fully engaged with all of them.  I stopped bothering with the forza motorsport series several iterations ago for the same reason and havent gone back to that one at all yet

This economy altering is too much like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. It's not like they can take the Super Wheelspins back. I wonder how they generate perks on cars, if it's by hand or some kind of algorithm. The Cossie suddenly had an FP perk I hadn't bought which I know wasn't there before.

FH3 was the pinnacle for me tbh, found FH4 really boring with no real varying biomes really and it just didn't gel with me.

Think FH5 will be my last for a while unless something is changed but I doubt it also. The DLC would have to be really special to bring me back to this, I still think it only deserves 6 or 7/10 because of the myriad of bugs and technical issues that persisted since launch.

Outside of the forum, how well received has it been? I know it was doing numbers initially, but to be expected for 1st party title to show off new hardware. I do wonder if FH needs a rethink as (I hope) FM is getting, because I hit the FM wall with 6, being indifferent to 7 until they gave it away on GP finally.

We should probably expect it by now but PGG seem to be focusing on the wrong stuff here and coming up with a bad solution too.  Basically 'exploiters' get to keep everything they earned and get a refund; non-exploiters just get worse wheelspin prizes from now onwards. 🤪

Was fixing the loop of using buying cheap cars to get access to super wheelspins via their skill mastery trees that important an issue to address?  I'd say there are actual bugs, stability issues that would be a better focus for attention.  Even stuff like removing cheaters from the leaderboards would have been preferable.

There is essentially no economy inflation from this 'exploit' as auction buy out prices are set by the developer anyway and are BELOW autoshow equivalents.  All they have done is slow down the progress of earning credits/ buying cars.  Even then they have done it in a stupid way:

  • People that used the 'exploit' (including me 😂) have had their skill points refunded AND keep whatever they got from previous spins
  • The spins themselves have been nerfed to crap with useless 1k, 5k etc prizes added which impacts everyone

I thought the lego speed champions DLC for 4 was great and I'd happily buy a dedicated speed champions game if they made one.

My plan now with 5 is to wait till all the DLC has been released and then look for a cheap code/ season pass before I get it.  I did that with 4 too and it worked out well

Granted those numbers will have been massively inflated by a significant number of the 25 million subscribers to Game Pass playing it, but that’s how Xbox rolls these days and when coupled with a 92 Metacritic score it’s been an unqualified success whichever way you look at it. I don’t see them thinking for one second that they need to change the formula up in order to ensure the series’ continued success. Quite the opposite in fact.

With that said I’m in agreement with most here in that I absolutely love the game but another reskin in a new country is going to start falling into diminishing returns territory for me. I hope they add some genuinely new ideas and features for FH6.

In other news I finally got the fucking Min, Meet Max achievement for completing every item in a monthly playlist series. 🙌 So glad to be rid of that one at last.

On the last point I think they have expanded the tree on some cars so there are additional slots to buy, its mentioned in this thread

Hmm. Well, my fault, I did blow money on the premium upgrade to play the game early. If you've got a load of cash already put down on the expansions, you're set.

Wish list: a pretty tight, FH1-esque open world racer but with a Hotshot Racing or art of rally aesthetic.

My son fired up the Hot Wheels expansion the other day. I don't know if the XSX is doing any upscale magic but shit, it still looks amazing. Better than the actual Hot Wheels game which came out recently, imho.

It's genuinely the best expac they've put out imo. Both FH3's ones were strong actually, the snow one was really good at the time before they put seasons in.

FH4's were both underwhelming to me, the first one, storm island or whatever was just dull as dishwater and the LEGO one as I said, when compared to hot wheels was kinda meh.

There's rumors the first FH5 one will be a city or sommat which doesn't interest me at all tbh.

Finally got the seasonal achievement. Although I had to wait about an hour for a chaos event to pop up on the map. Still, it was the fullest I've seen Arcade since launch. I kind of wished it went on a bit longer as it was kind of fun. They've made it a bit too easy.

I've been dipping my toe-in (geddit!?) to tuning and I'm finding there's a bit more depth to it than it seems. I can put something passable in for a solo race at a lower skill level but doing it for the trial this week, everyone zooms past despite being in the same class. I'm just not figuring out yet how they're squeezing out that extra speed and still have points left over for decent cornering. I've been following a few guides but I wish you could take apart some of the tunes in the game to see what happens.

I think it is because there has been so many of them, and they are all essentially the same each year. Great game, but I just do not know what they can do now aside from making the graphics more realistic.
