If you didn't like the previous Hotwheels I guess you may not like this one, but it's definitely a bit more complicated than more of the same. The visuals are absurd. Utterly absurd. You couldn't explain the draw distance and mind-bending track to your 10 year old self playing Stunt Car Racer on the Amiga (or the PowerPoint-FPS Spectrum version). The section below the track is vastly improved, the track itself now has ice, wet, dirt and other stuff on it, which adds to the variety.

That said, I'm immediately stuck and can't progress to the S1 class as I don't have enough stars or something. Which, fine, but I've "done" what little there is, and there really isn't much, so it means inching out extra stars here and there. As they limit the class of vehicle, I might have to start investing in some to see if I can find something to make certain events easier. I seem to recall this is why I eventually bounced off FH3 Hotwheels, and found the approach of the Lego expansion easier.

Might be the best virtual rollercoaster game I've played, the tracks are really good and it looks insanely good.

Only done the novice class so far and the car it gives you really struggled on the crazy uphill sections, but it's still a blast. Their show-offy intro race to the DLC has got to be up there as the most show-offy they've done.

Never played the FH3 DLC to compare unfortunately as they removed it from sale.

In the ResetEra thread, someone suggesting turning off Stunt Assist to get a bit of extra performance.

Oh I hadn't looked at that, will give it a whirl. To be fair, I like that there are accessibility options turned on by default. The attitude indicator was a complete eye sore but I can see how a widget showing your orientation in 3D is a help to some folks.

This game still feels very broken. I was able to get into hot wheels after installing the add on and do the first event and then on subsequent attempts (after switching the game to 60fps mode to see how it was) it kept asking me to install the hotwheels add on. Which was already installed. Each time I tried to go to hotwheels park it kept playing the same, un-skippable intro video and then dumping me back into the main map again.

I tried driving to the event again but had to listen to 5 million calls from the ritalin addicted radio hosts telling me all the places I had to go, each time automatically taking me to the map and showing me the route rather than letting me do - in a game series that is supposed to be letting me - whatever I want to instead.

The Hot Wheels DLC is boring in the same way it was in FH3. Flat out speed on long straights that go on forever just isn’t fun , the same way any route in the main game that includes the freeway is and orange track is just a dull surface to race on. I’ve done the B class introduction stuff so far but nothing in it makes me want to continue playing.

Yeah I'm not really enjoying Hot Wheels so far, it feels like going bowling with the barriers up. There is a constant wall up around the tracks so if you overshoot a corner you don't get penalised the same way as in a regular race. Also the "story" mission with the woman waffling on about Hot Wheels history, jesus, who asked for that? Dull as fuck.

I've already completed it 100% on Highly Skilled. Loved what was there. Seems like the map is larger, but with not as much content to fill it out?

There are points where you can fall off, and hitting the barrier is going to knacker a race. But I mean, it's true to what Hot Wheels is, although I can see that's not everyone's cup of tea.

I wouldn't say that hitting the barrier knackers the race. Maybe on the higher difficulties. Trying to get the Clean Rivals Accolades can be pretty challenging though.

Unlocked X class last night. I'm so underwhelmed by this DLC.

Glad it’s not just me that’s feeling like this about the DLC. I’ve bounced off FH5 faster than any other entry in the series. Recycled DLC isn’t helping that.

The Extreme E seasonal championships are a pain this week. The designated rival shoots off into the distance and the race lengths are incredibly short making it trickY to catch them. Abusing the rewind button and torpedoing the leader going into tight corners was the only way I could win.

This is my first FH DLC and I really like it. I’m up to the S1 races and the sense of speed on some of the tracks, as well as their impossible twisty turny-ness, makes it look and feel like a sequel to F-Zero X.

The event lab this week is the worst one I’ve ever seen, it’s so badly laid out with inadequate signposting that I resorted to following the AI around the circuit to make sure I didn’t get lost and even they couldn’t follow it correctly completely missing a checkpoint when going into the multi-storey car park. Luckily there is no punishment for doing that so the creator obviously knew their creation was garbage. I’ve finally got all the Extreme E vehicles as well which means I never have to drive one of them again.

The Hot Wheels DLC has got me hooked on this game all over again. I’m currently chipping away at the last few Legendary objectives (I’ve forgotten what they’re actually called) after getting to 100% on all the lower levels. When/if I finally finish them all I might go back to the land below and have another go at my unfinished objectives in the main game, of which there seem to be thousands.

And today I remembered that after “finishing” the main game I changed the setting to Quality so I was only on 30fps (Series S). Changed it back to Performance and Whooaahh! I’m not going any faster but somehow there’s more sense of speed.
