There’s a one day only Classic Wednesday Forzathon sale on todays 1966 GT40 MKII for 200FP, 1970 Dodge Challenger for 10FP, 1969 Toyota 2000GT for 50FP and 1930 Bentley 8 Litre for 100FP. From the in game message I assume this is going to become a regular thing. I only logged on for the Daily Forzathon challenge which today requires playing r the Eliminator so I’m happily skipping that.

I cheated a bit and found an image via Google that showed the location of each board. Then it was just a case of driving to the spot and working out how to get it.

There are a few that are particularly tricky though, to give a heads up.

Thanks. I'm trying not to cheat and come across them naturally, although part of me think they're that well hidden so they can just try to sell that treasure map or whatever it's called.

The first Horizon game is still my favourite so I like that FH5 is using it’s attract sequence this week. Three starring the first Horizon Origins story was tough as well, took me a few attempts to manage it while every other chapter I did first time.

is anyone doing the anniversary stuff? i've got to say that all it's done so far is reminded me that i prefer the older games much more. in terms of the presentation, soundtracks and maps, i've fallen off this one really hard and it's such a shame because i was expecting them to have really perfected the formula by now.

i'm hoping the next game is given enough time in the oven to be truly special (and is set in japan) because so far fh5 just feels like a massive missed opportunity

For me the Horizon series has got the same point as the main one.

I struggle to be excited or really engaged any more. Once I've driven every road. Done a few different race types spread over the map I don't find the core mechanics of racing fun enough and online holds no interest.

It doesn't matter how big or dense they make the map. Or how many races there are. Or how many cars. Or what songs are on the radio stations. Or how annoying the hosts and cut scenes are. Or how utterly stunning the graphics are.

I don't think perfecting the formula is possible. I think they have. They continually refine it a little, making it all too smooth and frictionless. And eventually it's just a bit lacking emotion.

This and the other racing game series just seem to have played their tricks. I find that sad to say. Racing games used to be my favourite genre but a country mile.

I don't know if it's because I'm playing it more or that there's less content, but I definitely seem to be getting through the content in each successive game a lot quicker. I've pretty much finished all the non-online stuff and the weekly playlists aren't enough to make you want to play for the most part.

Hearing the FH3 music again during the anniversary playlist was pretty great though.

I love these Horizon games much more than Motorsport.  While Motorsport just has a couple of new tracks each time, and sometimes loses ones from earlier versions, each Horizon game brings a completely different map to drive around.

I wish they would go back to the earlier model of driving somewhere and doing a four-race championship.  The more recent games have too much stuff I'm not interested in.  I'd happily just have the orange, green, blue and purple race icons.

the total lack of single player championships really hurt the game for me, it means there's no reason to try races with different car types. i know they were really excited to set this one in mexico and touted the varied biomes but distinct seasons helped give the uk map a lot of variety when it might not have felt like it at first glance. i also assumed that fortune island was going to be a precursor to them setting the game in japan and adding touge racing. the mountain in fh5 is really disappointing both in terms of scale and the fact it's supposed to be the snowy area.

who knows, maybe it being cross gen is why it got held back in a lot of areas but making the game's longevity revolve around the weeklies makes it boring and other than the anniversary stuff it hasn't really brought me back.

I think "cross gen" is such a crutch and letting developers off the hook too easily (I realise they're not using it as an excuse).

It's an issue of core design. They simply aren't making the play loop engaging enough beyond the initial discovery. Masses of content but very little reason to see it. How is cross country race #95 different from the first one? Slightly different locale but is every route a banger? If not, remove half of them and make all of them amazing.

If there's anything at fault, I think it's the faux live service nature of the game. All the weekly/monthly challenges and stuff are a turn off to me. I want more of an actual structure in the game. Whether it's the influence of Game Pass or external factors like Fortnite I think this need to be a long running service that people play continually dilutes the initial experience too much. And what's most sad about that is that this actually seems at odds with Game Pass - a service offering me so many games to try to keep up with that there is even less reason I'm going to want to keep returning to FH.

I also think all racing games tendency to lock away fast cars and treat "faster races" as progression is misguided. I don't think fast car racing has ever actually been as fun to me as slow stuff. It's probably a skill cap of sorts but I like the almost puzzle nature of slow car races against strong AI or the clock. How do I perfect a line and each input to get every drop of speed out of this little car.

I’ve been playing the anniversary events and have had a bug since they added it where it forces me to set the waypoint to the Origins story every time I start the game even though I’ve already finished it.

It’s still my most played game on XBox due to Forzathon events but the series lost its way since they stopped forcing a progress path on you and let you choose whatever car / race you wanted to do. I only do the Forzathon events to get cars I’ve missed and thought the Hot Wheels DLC just as bad as the first time they did it. I wish they’d do something like Storm Island or the rally dlc again.

I'd agree, I've loved the series (10 years... bloody hell) but this one I kinda just... stopped playing.  There is no real progression, it's just ticking a series of boxes.  89 of this, 92 of that.

There's lots of playing and no learning going on.  As in, you don't learn a specific track or a specific car.  You just play them, tick them off and move on. I've never felt like I've earned much, but rather been given it.

As an aside, this is somehting that affected my playing of other racing games.  I initially struggled with Wreckfest because it was the opposite of FH.  I was finished down the bottom of the pack because I wasn't really concentrating on the mechanics of racing any more.  When I realised it was me approaching it wrongly, I began to properly progress.

That bug is supposedly fixed in next week’s update. Also adds in-game ray tracing for the PC version.

Still playing this weekly to keep up with the 100% car collection but what I think is missing is the side stories and quests such as the delivery driver and super car rental ones in FH4.

At the moment it's just a case of getting 20/40 points to get the exclusive car on Thursday night then its switched off till the following Thursday.

On an aside is this 120Hz compatible? I've been casually browsing potential Black Friday tellies today

DLSS and DLAA support as well. Plus AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution for those who make bad decisions. ;)

It'll be interesting to see if they bring the AMD stuff to the console versions, it would give them quite a nice boost.

FH4 and 5 and all DLC is currently available from the Swedish MS store for about 61p (7.49 Swedish Kronor) for those who are happy to move around a bit...

Payment with a UK card, to a UK address (e.g. my stored information) worked fine for me.

Obviously check the price first in case they fix it...
