Forza Horizon 5

The intro and the first hour or so are always the most annoying bits of a Forza Horizon game. On all of the previous ones, once you get away from the early races with people shouting at you over the radio, it all starts to calm down and become a much more relaxed experience.

It's certainly more of the same, but I'm surprised to see just how negative this thread has become. I'm still having a really good time with it.

Don't see many moans at the racing or the game itself, mainly the 'yo dude' cutscenes.

Guess with gamepass we'll see a lot more drive by 'this is shit' posts though for MS big games at there isn't the cost barrier to entry there usually is.

Indeed it mainly happens as all the areas open up once they are all open it quietens down significantly.. I think a lot of it is mainly there to help guide newcomers into the game.

Ironically I’d imagine many newcomers feel overwhelmed with the sheer amount of stuff the game introduces you to in a very short space of time, I basically just ignore it all.

Call me a bit dim but I am still confused by all the things going on all the time and was in FH4 to be honest, maybe because half of them are to do with online which I never really touch. Still not entirely sure what #forzathon point actually do, is that online stuff?

Think "Forzathons" are a bunch of challenges you need to complete within a specified duration. You earn points (in game currency) you can spend in the Forzathon Shop or whatever its called.

Never really done them myself either... only have so much time - which I find difficult to find to even play the main game at times.

It would be great if one of the Horizon stories was Scott Tyler being tortured and dismembered by one of the Cartels, and you subsequently had to find his scattered body parts and bring them back to the Horizon festival for repatriation to the US. Sort of like the barn finds, except you're using your drone to look for Scott Tyler's eyes.

While I did laugh at this non-serious idea, I did think when playing the intro last night that's it's nice to have a Mexico-set game that doesn't once reference cartel violence.

Yeah the core driving is still truly superb. I enjoyed it immensely in FH4 so I was looking forward to this just for more of that in new environments.

It just probably makes the influencer shit stand out more for how rubbish and pointless it all is.

Even when I was young I still would have found the festival stuff pure poison as I do now but I can easily ignore it. Still enjoying the heck out of the game.

I didn’t realise the Drivatars mirrored their real life counterparts in driving style. Would explain how some are certainly more troublesome.

I actually like the Festival stuff. It's all nonsense of course, but it's fun nonsense. The "story" activities are some of my favourites in the game.

Yeah I have no real issue with the festival setup and it's never been that much of an issue before 5. I even really enjoyed all the horn and stupid clothing bollocks in 4, it added to the madness of playing online with mates and was a bit of a laugh! It's just the lead character makes me squirm. WIll definitely try the female voice going forward.

The profanity filter wouldn't allow me to set my plate to "COW POOH", apparently there was a blocked word.

These things are weirdly inconsistent. I couldn’t have jonathanhoey as my gamertag on Xbox Live, but I can have JON HOEY as my numberplate in Horizon.

Not just Microsoft. Can’t make a custom player with my own name in EA’s Madden, either, but it’s fine to name my driver after myself in EA’s F1.

(I assume the problem is that it doesn’t like “HOE”).

If I was playing with a group regularly I'm sure winning an ice cream van horn as I did last night would be good fun to show off. As it is clothes, horns and emotes in spins for me feel more like "you lose" in spins.

Yes, the character interactions are cringe but I will agree I've enjoyed things like the Mexican car wrestling and the like.

It's not just you, the whole festival thing leaves me cold and it's worse in 5 than it was in 4 (which I've recently been playing again in anticipation of this)

I think adding a voice to your character is part of what makes it even more cringy in FH5

The festival thing is just a bit played out now. I think they need a new gimmick to hang everything off.

I've only had a chance to put about 30 minutes in and so far I've done the intro bit, the first scripted 'race' and now have been invited to take a photo of a sand storm.

Which is all well and good but I really just want to have amazing races over amazing scenery. As I get older all the other bumph just feels too much of a time waste really.

It's about a one hour intro to a one hundred hour game. You do need a tutorial - not everyone will be coming to this having played every other game before.

Same, the game feels like it’s happening in a void without them and it one of the reasons FH4 single player was dull.

As for alternatives they could always get Sean Maguire back to do voiceover of the early game again.

I guess I just don't want to do this stuff. Particularly when it involves some discombobulated voice yabbering at me the whole time.

Plus it knows I've played the previous games, it gave me all the free cars. I'd quite like it if more games recognised that they can tell when you've played the previous games and just gives you the slimmed down tutorial option.

Perhaps for Forza Horizon 6 they can give the player two options - race centric game play or the full Horizon experience. Then tailor what the game throws at you based on that choice.

OHMYGOD was acceptable, so I guess Microsoft are down with taking the Lord's name in vain.

It's the way all AAA release threads go.

Hype up to release

BEST GAME EVER!

The Master Race storm in with their slide rules and protractors

This is way better / way worse than PREVIOUSITERATION OF SAME SERIES

Minor nitpicks blown completely out of proportion ("What do you mean I can turn this annoying thing off? By pressing a single button? How dare you suggest I do such a thing, sir?! We shall meet outside tomorrow at dawn!")

Over the top buyers remorse ("My new car came in a default colour of yellow.  I don't like yellow. Beginning to regret paying 87 squintillion pounds for this now.")

Most people just sigh, and get on with enjoying it

It's more that a section of this forum more than most is strangely allergic to the tone games like this adopt. Look at rider's Republic, same thing there.

It's old man yelling at clouds stuff.

In our defense even 12 year olds would launch Rider's Republic and go "Hold on lads. Bit much eh?"

Now I want to check out Rider's Republic. Never heard of it even. Been out of the loop ever since I had kids. 😅

I don't think the acting in FH5 is that bad either. But that's maybe because English is not my native tongue. 🤷🏼‍♂️
