Forza Horizon 5

Has the pacing and the whole 'in your face' aspect of the Horizon games always been thus?

It's like they're so desperately worried that you might get bored, they decided that the best thing to do is cram everything at you all the time and you almost can't catch your breath. I didn't want to start fucking around looking for another Horizon adventure just at this minute, I wanted to carry on with some normal racing for a bit but - and I might have missed something here, so I could well be wrong - it wouldn't allow me not to choose one of them and open up the map even more.

Pacing is really bad. I understand humanity now seems to have the attention span of a cucumber, but even so it doesn't let me play at my own pace without constantly bugging me all the time. It's desperately frustrating.

I forget if it was different near the start, but I can definitely cancel out of the adventures screen and bank the points for later when I can be bothered.

The deluge of stuff everywhere, all the time is still very much true though!

I've been unlocking but not doing expeditions to keep my focus a bit better.

But I need to do a few to open up more non-race events. Doing the Forzathon/season stuff is a bit more painful when you've such a limited set of options in things like speed traps/zones, danger signs and drift zones. Mostly because it can mean driving miles to get to one (which can be fun in it's own right, but sometimes I just want the tick tick tick experience of smashing through them).

Delaying opening new chapters helps with pacing.  As does the map filter.

I guess, but I finished off one of the Horizon Adventure card things after about 5 hours of play and was surprised to be doing an epic 15 minute race around the entire island. That kind of thing came very late in FH4!

The horribly named and liveried Hoonigan is an absolute joy to drive. Handles so well on all types of terrain, so finding it absolutely perfect for Road Discovery.

I thought it was just me who loves that car!!  It's my go to for cruising around - I really like it for off road drift zones too.

Also - done a wet season championship and the races in the rain really look sensational on the SX.  The reflections are amazing, and the handling of the cars makes them really exciting races too.  Drifting past rivals in the wet is tremendous fun.

Agreed. I did the Muscle Car series race which starts off in apocalyptic rain and ends up in glorious sun with puddles and reflections everywhere. It's a shame it was like driving tanks on ice, or I might have been able to enjoy the visuals more.

The pacing in this one is better than the last few if anything, crazily.

I had this issue last night on my first session, so very early on. It was when I unlocked the House the game forced me to go there even though I wanted to do a couple of nearby races.

I couldn't set any other waypoint or do other events. It feels slightly (and I mean slightly) less polished than FH4 so far but I'm comparing to years of FH4 updates.

I'm also playing on the original XBone. The loading times are...not good. The into event fell a little flat as I had two minutes of loading everytime there was a vehicle change.

I don't like the music.

Otherwise....this is close to perfection for what they've setout to do. Absolutely amazing achievement and the tiny niggles I have can be easily fixed or ignored. I might have to finally upgrade to a Series console...

Loving it.

Upgrading to a Series S/X will be worth it just for the loading alone.

Online is completely borked today right, not just me?

It’s been more less a constant ‘on/off’ situation for me since I started playing. I honestly have no idea what’s going on half the time, and I don’t know where you go to just turn the thing into Horizon Solo mode all the time. Haven’t found it in the settings and I’m constantly having an awful person shouting, telling me that I’m in Horizon Solo mode.

It’s very odd.

But, I do love the driving in it. Very very much.

Has it been mentioned you need to buy the  Buenas Vistas property to fast travel anywhere?

Only 2 million. So just farm some jeeps, unlock and your away.

Or collect all the fast travel signs. 😅

Are the red events supposed to be much, much harder than the others on the map? I’m skooshing the standard events (first place every time) but getting beasted on the red ones (last place every time).

My car’s rating is comparable with the other participants, but my acceleration seems to be way off - I’ll start mid-pack and end up at the back by the first corner. Do I need to change out my tyres so they’re more suitable for off-road driving, maybe?

A lot of them are fixed to highly skilled drivatar ai.

You may want to try to upgrade the car to its max PI value.

The red ones are seasonal events, I believe, and are time-limited.

Know what you mean about the other cars going off like shit off a shovel but weirdly they'll slow down and you should be able to catch up easy enough depending on the difficulty and whatnot.

Thanks all - I’ll check the difficulty, could be that I’m just crap! The car I’m in is less than 50 points off the maximum for the event, and higher than some other competitors, so I don’t think that’s the issue.
