Maybe I’m massively conditioned by Metroid games of the past but I don’t think needing something for the lava needed telling, what with lava being lava and everything.

Quite. I think the MER NER MER NER MER NER noise as you entered a hot or cold area was enough to say ‘not yet’.

These are mad. Probably not the kinds of things I’ll be spending a great deal of time on, but I’m very glad they’re in there for those who want them.

I'm a shitey game player - but really enjoying them.  I've had to go to youtube a couple of times just to make sure I've been trying them right but in all cases so far, yeah... the main thing the game doesn't teach you is that you can spark in mid air in one of 8 directions and if you spark *horizontally* into an slope you'll regain your boost to allow you to spark again.  Once you know that, you're sorted.  The rest is just knowing what to press and when...

like that one above, you need to know to wall jump and not lose momentum, press towards the wall - then slide with momentum to smash the bricks and when you come out the other side, thumb off the stick and use ZL to come out of morphball, and then immedaitely press down (or stick click).

That took me *ages* to figure out.

Good news from Japan once more, for those interested of course. Second week numbers are in for Dread and the game had a 74% drop in sales, selling 22.221 units compared to last week's 84k~. That might sound like a heavy drop, but Samus Returns had a 72% drop in its second week with much lower opening numbers. Going from 28k~ to 8k~ for its second week.

Add up that Switch software has a much better digital ratio then earlier Nintendo platforms, even in Japan we've titles go up towards 50% digital, and Dread is already the best selling Metroid in about 3 decades or so. As things are going right now, it will probably break 300k in Japan either this year or next. Unheard of for Metroid since the days of Super(which sold 500k).

As a nice bonus, Dread in its second week was able to outsell the PS5 version of the new Demon Slayer game. Insane.

If people are interested, I could give little updates like this every week.

Yes please, there are Youtuber folks who go over the numbers ( Spawnwave inperticular ) but even from this brief breakdown, you have a much better and more indepth view of things :)  Thank you :)

Yeah, I struggle with how messy the map looks and have spent more time than I'd like to admit whizzing around the corners of each room to make it go away. I think it's like the notification dots all over new items/data in games, I will always quickly click around to get rid. F2P games are a total nightmare for it. My brain has been wired by mobile phone apps to feel it's an itch that needs scratching. Even with the Switch home screen with the News and Online icons... It's probably just me.

Oh thank fuck for that. Got there in a pretty bodged fashion (note the total confusion halfway) but job done.

Btw, I'm playing on Switch Lite, so smaller screen and no fancy pro-controller. :P

Well done fella. This bastard’s been eluding me all night. Just can’t reliably nail the first falling shinespark.

Is it Left on the stick with Y&B EXACTLY simultaneously or can you lead with one or the other?

Think I’ve managed it twice out of about 50 goes, and then fucked the next bit in the ensuing panic.

I’ve been blaming my OG switch B button for so many missed jump inputs throughout the game, so maybe it’s that. 😉

You'll be glad to hear it's B and nothing else to initiate the shinespark. Only then you do you hold the L stick in the direction you want to go. Hitting B at the right point whilst falling is probably the hardest part.

Pressing Y is only helpful to stop yourself spinning, but you don't need to spinjump (or jump at all) for this one.

Underestimated how long that final boss would take. Had to give up last night, crazy difficult! Woke up today and my wrist is destroyed.

Don't get me wrong the bosses in this game are pretty good and challenging but it feels a little out of tone with the rest of the games difficulty. Can't imagine many casuals sticking with it on some of the bosses.

Yeah the last boss

Spoiler

I found it was all about his 2nd phase, once you have the first one worked out you should come out of that with full health, and phase three is just a slightly different version of that and you can pick up health too. I did phase 3 first time but phase two took me a while.

My leisurely progress continues - I like playing Metroids in short bursts; I find it helps with the boss battles.

Done a bit of swimming around a new area, and now have my morph-ball bombs back, and can blink-dash (or whatever it's called). Feeling more like Samus' old self every day...

New EMMI area is a pain - red booby traps go off and draw it to your location if you don't spot 'em first.

first phase - once i figured out i needed to counter, wasn't too bad. A few times i made it to phase 2 with most of my health. Phase 2, i did well a few times but it's just a little random to his attacks. I didn't even realise there was a third phase until now..

any way of attacking that "black hole" move? I found setting off a bomb gets rid of it (and gives you a little health) and counters do, but take damage.

I used a power bomb every time I saw the black hole coming. Same with a thing on the 3rd phase.

I actually got stuck on the 1st phase for ages because I couldn't figure out how to damage him once he went gold. By the time I knew what to do I'd pretty much mastered dodging all his attacks. The 2nd phase took me a few goes after that (the attacks tells are sufficiently different and there's a reliable way of dodging each one) and the 3rd was quite straightforward.

The black holes on the first and third phases take 4 ice missiles to destroy and they give health and ammo. The ‘gold’ black holes I used the power bomb or just dodged the projectiles that come out of them if I ran out.

invulnerable when gold? Whenever he did that I just dodged his attacks until he did his beckon taunt, then I countered him.

Spoiler

Yes, just dodge when gold until he motions you to come forward with a hand gesture, then move in quickly and counter and then immediately hammer the fire/missiles.

You can also

Spoiler

counter his charge across the screen attack, when he flashes red. I found the timing easier.
