Assume the same's going to happen with the next COD...

Yeah right!

I mean it's a reasonable call but at the same time this comment sums it up. Is the industry as a whole going to delay war games? I mean in some respects that probably covers about 80% of big budget titles.

I respect Nintendo's choice here but is there something specific about Advance Wars that makes it more on the nose than COD or any other war/army game?

Advance Wars’ battle lines and capturing cities and managing vehicle fuel actually remind me a lot more of the conflict than any of the Lockheed-sponsored soldier superhero fantasies from of Activision. You take out the officially licenced firearms and tech, and what does Fast and Furious But Commandos really have to do with actual modern warfare?

In the storyline the invading country Blue Moon is clearly based on Russia  and it invaded the neighbouring country Orange Star completely unprovoked.

Time to change the thread title.

I guess it is a bit on the nose.

To be clear I wasn't trying to suggest they shouldn't delay this, just the specifics of thinking of it from a wider industry perspective. I'm probably a little biased there because I have over the years grown to feel that popular games have a real problem with the prevalence and reliance on guns and violence. I'm not in the "ban this filth" camp but I'd be very happy to see the hobby begin to feel the embarrassment I do when I see a showreel that is 90% shooting and stabbing.

I’ve not spent much time with the game but this went way over my head if it’s true.

From what I remember of the story (big spoilers obvs):

Spoiler

All of the factions end up realising fighting each other a huge and terrible mistake, and they all team up to fight the Nazis. So fairly positive as far as an overall message about conflict goes I guess.

You can’t reply to the tabloid response with “but they all learn a valuable lesson in the end!”

As if Putin’s heart will grow three sizes upon playing it.
