The Nintendo Switch eShop page for Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp has been updated, potentially indicating that a new release date for the long-delayed game could be imminent.

According to a user in Famiboards, the game’s eShop page has been updated, suggesting that pre-orders for the game could soon go live once again.

I obviously don't know if this actually means anything but it's something approaching news so I'm mentioning it in here.

I mentioned it in the ‘eShop closing down’ thread, but the GBA versions of 1&2, and the DS game, are all on the Wii U Virtual Console for about £7 each or so. I’m swithering about whether or not to bite the bullet. I suppose I’ve got until March, so hopefully there’ll be some Switch remake closure one way or the other before then, surely tae fuck?

I wouldn't bother, they cancel online services and you will lose access to it eventually. This post is from the Nintendo Support site for Wii, bit silly seeing as I can still access stuff on my Series X going back several generations with no issues:

It is no longer possible to purchase new content from the Wii Shop. However, for the time being you may continue to re-download content you have purchased or transfer that content from a Wii system to a Wii U system. Be aware that these features will eventually end at a future date.

I’m not expecting to be unable to access my other GBA Virtual Console games that are installed on my Wii U when the Wii U eShop closes. No more or less than I’m worried (or not) about not being able to access, like, digital PS4 games in my library some time in the future 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not being able to transfer Wii software to Wii U doesn’t come into it.

EDIT: doesn’t their statement that you quote actually confirm that folk are still able to access things they’ve already paid for?

For what it's worth the ability to redownload DSi and Wii eshop purchases disappeared for around four months last year with very little notice or explanation from Nintendo.

Don't give them a penny - just emulate.

  • Hitcher changed the title to Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp (Release date 21/04/2023)

The trailer from the latest Direct. It seemed quite striking and odd to me that it contains no game footage.

Could they have been hard at work riping out or toning down the Russian influence and now trying to obscure that a little to avoid any outcry too far before release.

Or maybe just them trying to carefully manage the messaging and avoid showing the "Russian" forces.

I was bang up for getting this after the release date was finally announced, but that's before I found out it was £50 retail. I thought it was going to be about half that. Apart from HDifying the art, do we know if they've added anything to justify the price tag? I played the first game on the GBA when I was a lad, but never truly understood how to play it, so I was looking to get into it properly with these remasters. Might wait for the sale now, though.
