Announced seemingly out of nowhere! PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, and Xbox One.

NIce to have a sequel to a fun bit of "Eurojank" TM ;)

From EG -

"Elex 2 is the sequel to post-apocalyptic sci-fi open-world role-playing game Elex, which Piranha Bytes' released in 2017. "Hokey, uneven and janky, Elex is nonetheless a compelling throwback to a time before open worlds became choose your own to-do lists," Richie Shoemaker wrote in Eurogamer's Elex review.

Elex 2 returns to the world of Magalan, with "massive environments that can be explored with unrivalled freedom via jetpack".

Here's the official blurb:

"The planet Magalan has seen some rather peaceful years after the Events of Elex 1: old factions have been vanquished, new factions have risen. The Berserkers' attempts to regrow and terraform the lands have started to bear fruit. After the defeat of the Hybrid, the Albs are no longer a threat. However, our hero - Jax - returns with knowledge of a new menace that's casting a shadow over Magalan. It falls to Jax to unite these different factions together to face this darkness together."

THQ Nordic said the game's NPCs will remember what you've done and react accordingly, will join or leave your group depending on how you behave, and are able to be killed, which will have an effect on the story."

Release date confirmed 1 March 2022.

Excellent. The store page on Xbox has already been up for awhile but it would only let me wishlist it, no pre-order option available last I saw. Didn't expect the to appear so soon! Hopefully it's not *too* janjy due to them rushing it out :D

tad more polished

I couldn't help but lol, I'm sorry. Was Elex your first Piranha Bytes game? They tend to be like this :)

I'm hoping that Elex 2 will be an actual improvement over 1. With Risen, the first one was great and the sequels less so. They tried to go big and pretend they were making a AAA game, but by expanding the scope to encompass various islands in a supposedly vast ocean, they only managed to heavily dilute the tightly designed experience of Risen 1 and its single island.

For those wondering why I'd splurge on this preorder instead of waiting for reviews or even a sale when their games are always so janky - it's because they're a small but passionate team who stubbornly keep making a single type of game they love to make and which I love to play. Sometimes they hit, sometimes they miss, but it's always janky and it's always very ambitious for the resources they have in terms of budget and team size. I hope they keep making their Gothic-likes forever because I love their Gothic-likes. Maybe Elex 2 will be one of their misses, but even so I want to support this team because I love what they're always trying to do and I want them to try again.

Not at all, I’ve been at them from the very beginning. Gothic 2 improved upon Gothic in every department, including polish. While all their games have been bug ridden at release, and the same was true for Elex, they always put in some effort to fix as much as possible. I’m still a little salty about Gothic 3 as it was never mended properly.

It's a game I will definately be picking up (funds permitting) I've enjoyed almost every one of their games even with some of the issues. They have some fantastic idea's in some of their games and I always get plenty of hours of enjoyment out of them ^_^ This year's got some great looking games coming out and this will likely compete with many of them for my time.

I bought it!

Still knee-deep in Cyberpunk :(

Someone needs to give these RPG devs a stern talking to. Don't release Elden Ring, the next-gen version of Cyberpunk, and Elex 2 within weeks of each other

I'm playing it and enjoying it. I do wish they would just put that little bit of extra effort into melee combat though. A nicer animation and feeling of weight would do wonders for it. It's early doors yet though and once I get some decent ranged weaponry it obviously won't matter so much.

Frame rate can be a touch rough, but I started playing this over Elden Ring, as that was the first game in years to give me motion sickness.

It's totally more of the same, but the world has moved on. I'm playing it as a Piranha Bytes fan and it's fine but has made no improvements over the original. It even has the most egregious case of 'abilities amnesia' I have seen in a long while and at least one major storyline arc that assumes you followed a certain romance path in the first. Not sure I could recommend playing it over other open world games tbf. To sum up its approach, I got an achievement for picking up 10 000 items and  I haven't even settled on a faction to join yet... 4 is a bit harsh but if you're not a PB fan then you'll bounce off this hard. Not to mention, the melee is arse so I've just switched to ranged for this playthrough.

Now that forbidden west is out of the way I started this yesterday and got about an hour in.

The world looks large, the graphics felt lacklustre after Forbidden West but I'm conscious of the budget differences. At a glance it doesn't look like a huge step up from the previous game though.

The beginning of the game get's into it quite quick which was a pleasant change of pace but it doesn't really explain or tell you much and it appears like the worlds open to your right away (i.e. Breath of the wild esque) but you just aren't going to be strong enough to just waltz through everywhere, I think it's banking on a lot of players being those who played the first game and it's quite a different feel to forbidden west where I felt I was still being taught right up to the last fight.

I do feel at first glance that unless you are a fan of these budget open world games you won't enjoy it but I can see me sinking a few hours into it. Whether I will get all the trophies or not I'm not so sure.

Will provide some more thoughts once I have a few more hours on it but yeah it feels similar to the first game just with a bit more content.

I've really been enjoying this. I am right near the end of the game now I believe, at around 70 hours. My main gripe is that I don't think the world is anywhere near as interesting to explore as the first game.

Combat definitely felt better and I'm sure the difficulty is quite a bit easier as well. I remember grinding at times I the first game, but this has been pretty easy to be honest. There has been one bug I have seen a few times though, where chunks of scenery just disappear when inside certain structures and I can't believe they still haven't patched it. Compared with the PC release, the console patches have taken forever.
