How did England fail to beat a team who have failed to qualify for the two World Cups in a row.

Probably in the same way they failed to beat a team who have failed to qualify for the last nine in a row.

Spoiler

Hungary, who they drew 1-1 with in qualifying.

Please ignore the 4-0 away win, though.

That's one way of putting it...England at least wouldn't commit a fail this bad. I guess Italy fans would take a Euros win in exchange for two World Cup no shows though?

How have Wigan failed to get to the Champions League final after beating Manchester City 3 years ago?

It was a ridiculous question but since the Euro 2008 fiasco it’s felt like England have qualified for every tournament with ease and yet Italy have somehow managed to screw up again.

Tbf to England the reaction to the low point of the “golden generation” era where they failed to qualify for Euro 2008 and failed to turn up to the World Cup in 2010 has been really good.  We seemed to believe that one or two talismanic players and a superstar manager would be enough and clearly it wasn’t.  The talent coming through now is unbelievable and it’s the fruits of St George’s Park and the EPPP starting to pay off.

Because Southgate.  Goes 1-0 up in 8 minutes.  Batters the Italian goal but not score. Then starts to fall into the trap of defending a 1 goal lead with about 40 minutes to play.

That was quite a game in Cardiff last night - we had an incredible view of Bale's freekick as we were sat at the top of the steps directly side on so had no-one in front of us (and stood all game as we were in the back row of the lower tier.

My son was very happy as he could see Williams (boo) and Gabbidon watching the game from the TV box and we had Kieffer Moore and Sean Morrison sat behind us in the box seats.

Very tense at the end, but Wales deserved winners.  I think they'll smash Scotland, but impossible to even contemplate what a game against Ukraine would look like at the moment.

Apparently Russia has launched a bid to host Euro 2028. Or maybe they’ll just see who gets the tournament and invade that country too.

Maybe the bid is the plan "We will have Europe".

Christian Eriksen came on at half time for Denmark, and scored with his first touch. His first touch for Denmark since he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch playing for them, of course.  Unbelievable.  :)

Plans that would enable clubs to qualify for the Champions League based on historical performance and not their league position are back on the table, a year after the collapse of the European Super League.

Members of the European Club Association, an organisation which includes 10 Premier League sides, are to lobby Uefa to allow two teams to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition based in part on their coefficient, a metric calculated according to continental performance over the five previous seasons

The Guardian understands that the proposals would see clubs who finish outside Champions League places in their domestic leagues, but qualify for the Europa League or win a domestic cup, compete for two places which would then be decided by coefficient ranking

Terrible ideas aren’t just restricted to the European Super League.
