What ! Its hardly hand waving it away if the whole point of the program is to say "What if".

If it wasn't an alternative take, then it would have been just an animated Captain American 30 minute film!!!

Yes you're quite right.

Well, this episode hasn't started off very well for me, these jokes are falling flat.

Also, can't wait for someone here to moan about T'Challa's voice.

I'm hoping it'll pick up as the episode goes on, even the silly little changes here and there ain't enough for the second episode in I was hoping for something more.

He is listed in the cast though?

I wasn't sure about this concept when I saw the trailer but really enjoyed where they went with it

Hmm, this one isn't really hitting unfortunately.

I'm sorry but I just don't buy

Spoiler

Thanos joining a two-bit crew like the Ravagers. Or being persuaded out of his ideas. Or being happy being a subordinate. Or standing around gormlessly and exchanging pleasantries. They even joked this Thanos was okay with genocide until he was presented with a better argument, so it's clearly supposed to be the same character. It just really doesn't work for the Mad Titan.

The joy of What If style stories is more about what if certain events had worked out differently, not if characters were completely different people. Otherwise why even write it in the first place if you're just making it up as you go rather than actually think about what would fit.

It reminds me a bit of Star Trek Discovery Season 2

Spoiler

With the whole crew being okay with literal Space Hitler being on their ship for some reason. I guess at least in this (unlike Discovery) they do actually repeatedly acknowledge that Thanos was okay with genocide. But the fact it's played for a joke could well be more egregious. On Discovery they just sort of forget about it, for better or worse. (Obviously worse)

The fuck was that... I liked ep1. But that...

Spoiler

Thanos ruined it. I know it's a what if. But there's no way Thanos would ever join the ravengers and take orders from someone else. I couldn't concentrate on anything else, they jumped the shark with that decision. Oh well, on to the next one!

I liked that second episode more than the first. I think that's largely because in the first episode, I found the animation in the more subdued non-action scenes stiff and awkward - not just the facial expressions, but many of the other gestures. Whereas in the second episode, the alien characters and surroundings helped distract from that.

I also thought the jokes were funnier this time - in the first episode the quips felt like placeholders, like they had the rhythm of jokes without being funny.

Spoiler

I really liked the initial joke of "look how amazingly perfect T'Challa is and how much better off the galaxy is with him as Star-Lord; he even managed to convince Thanos he was wrong!"

But yeah, keeping Thanos involved beyond that initial cameo was a bit dubious, even before you get into the eternal comic book debate about power levels and fighting skills that @Harsin points out.

Fun to see Thanos fighting against the Black Order, though!

Also I'm going to try and avoid looking at the opening credits for the rest of this series, because in both episodes so far they've spoiled a few character appearances that would have been nice surprises.

Captain Genocide did make laugh.

Preferred episode one. Doesn't detract from the overall quality of the programme though.

I like it and this is crazy animation for a telly programme. Up there with Love Death and Robots IMO.

The fights in episode 2 were flawless.

Loved episode 2, the mix of action, humour and feels was just right. It definitely benefited from deviating from the original story more than Ep1 did.

Obviously the emotional side was ramped up by it being Chadwick Boseman's last work but it did feel like a worthy send off.

It was enjoyable.  This stuff isn't going to go down as classic TV but for a fun irrelevant animated show, it's good.  Funnily episode 1 had people moaning it didn't change enough, this one has people moaning it changed too much.

Yeah I think maybe having single 30 minute episodes is the issue here, a lot of the What If/Elseworlds (because I'm more used to DC) stuff is more like a limited run or TPB so maybe better suited for individual miniseries but it's too much of a hard sell for people who just watch MCU

It’s certainly true to 80’s Marvel What If comics, as they’d happily belt through a year long arc in 20 pages.

Dude, I think you're missing the point of INFINITE possibilities here...

Infinite possibilities, sure. If a different, life altering thing happened to Thanos when he was a kid then I could go along with him being able to be talked out of his plan much later. I can't wrap my head around the fact that the wrong kid being picked up from Earth would later be able to have a lovely chat with the mad Titan and talk him out of his master plan. One which he'd have been planning long before the mixup on Earth.

If only the Avengers had known during Infinity War! When Thanos arrived in Wakanda they could have just sent Black Panther to have a quiet word with him.
