Neither Halo MCC or Monster Train are supported by Steam Deck.

Both run fine, although on the MCC you need to start with the anti-cheat disabled so you can't play online. Reach, Enhanced graphics, 60fps solid.

OK, you fucking thing, you're gradually winning me round.

I didn't want to say anything before, but your time with the Steam Deck sounds like mine - I really wasn't sure about it when it arrived and was thinking I should sell it and get my £580 back.

Now I love it. It's staying.

Perhaps this will help:

It does mention that some games simply don't have an option to cloud sync, so you'd have to port around saves manually.

I guess you could also use something like Ludusavi on both machines and bounce saves into a Google Drive for anything unsupported, but it's very much out of my comprehension how to set it all up.

The game I'm wanting to continue with (Death Stranding) does say its uses cloud saving. I just can't figure out how to get Heoric is sync.

I may just transfer the save file over then.

Hmm, that's strange then - I think there's something in the options tab per game in heroic that lets you force cloud sync.

The only game I really bothered with on Heroic that had cloud saves was Hades, and that seemed to work without doing anything (at least, it popped up something about it when I started). I'll check when I'm back home and on a stable internet connection, though.

@cavalcadehave you imstalled the Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime? Search for it on the Deck and it'll show in the search results.

(Sorry, double post)

I think what calcavade is doing is correct - 343 still hasn't fixed online, but they've already stated you can change over to the Mod environment in MCC to play the games. You can also play multiplayer and co-op with people set to that mode, as well, but of course you lose out on general matchmaking.

343 also has to sort out Infinite, iirc. Microsoft has already said they're asking studios to support the deck back in march, so it's really a matter of studios plugging away at it.

It's fine. I'll play Apex competitively on a pad, but that's about it. Just having the single player experiences is enough.

Sell it and get 900 quid back.... But yes. I think as my opinion has softened and I've begun to use it for what it is I do like it a lot. When it works it really works, and I do think a refinement pass for a Steam Deck Pro or 2 could really push it over the line. But for now portable Halo and Fallout isn't too shabby.

I'm playing it using Heroic, and you need to manually upload and download your saves in my experience.

If you click on the game's settings in Heroic (the cog next to the run icon), you should see "Cloud Saves" as an option on the left. Go there, and among other things you should find a drop down box that lets you choose between Upload/Download/Force Upload/Force Download. Download will download a save from the cloud, and upload will upload a local save from the Deck. Doing either will result in a brief pause followed by a rather wordy dialogue box telling you if it worked or not.

The two "Force" options will force a save to be uploaded or downloaded should it think the destination save is newer.

There is a checkbox to automatically sync saves, but I don't think it works.

You legend. It worked and was a super easy thing to do too (DOH).

Thanks very much

My Deck arrived today and, obviously, my 1st task was to try and get OutRun 2006 up and running

I managed to get it working using the info earlier in the thread but it would appear that the high-score tables don’t work when using the no-cd patch - does anyone else see the same problem? I tried it on my Windows PC and the same thing happens, but when I play from my original DVD it’s fine, so I’m thinking it’s an issue with the patch rather than the Deck

Anyone got any recommendations for any driving/racing games on Steam that work well on the Steam Deck?

**Available via Steam, not emulated etc

Forza Horizon 5, Sonic Racing Transformed, Wreckfest, and, even though its impossible to get now....and you need the ubisoft launcher and I really just wanted to say....Driver San Francisco works brilliantly well.

Because of the racing suggestions, I had a quick go on a couple more I own:

Burnout Paradise (the original that showed up on humble back in the day, not the remaster) works well, despite showing up as unsupported - I think to get it working right, you have to access the configuration once to confirm the resolution and ramp up the filtering, but outside of that and declining the initial EA registration thing it runs perfectly well and looks great. I forgot how great Burnout plays, I'll probably stick with it unlike some older games like Race Driver: GRID and... Well, what I'm about to talk about, Ridge Racer Unbounded.

Ridge Racer Unbounded worked out of the box (couldn't connect to a Namco server, but never mind), looks great and has a megamix of ridge tunes built in, but.. well, the handling is fucking awful. It would be a decent alternative to Split Second otherwise, but I like my turning circles to actually exist. Of course, it definitely isn't Ridge, but even coming at it with an open mind has disappointed me.

As mentioned, I played Race Driver: Grid a while back. Again, also runs great, but the handling's funky. Not flat-out bad lIke Unbounded, but not particularly enticing compared to contemporaries like Forza 2/3, GT4 (fuck knows if GT5 or prologue was out) and of course PGR.

kind of made me realise my Steam library's kind of cringe for racing games, and I should pick up Competizione or Automobilista 2.

But first, I'll play through some more three-hour trips like Gris, Thomas Is Alone and Unfinished Swan. This is supposed to kill backlogs, after all.

Where’s that post?  I’ve had no joy attempting on my own. I’m desperate to get it to work.

Really lovely experience using my Deck yesterday on the sofa with the misses 🤪.  Bigger than I thought it would be but very comfortable to hold so far. Not doing anything tinkerey just yet and picking stuff from my Steam library - played FTL and My friend Pedro.

Still getting used to navigating around.  I need to master the Steam input section as I'm used to it on the PC but not this.  When playing FTL it did not load my cloud save but when I changed to Proton experimental, that worked.  Loving this thing so far and can see myself working through my Steam pile of shame or having a go at a game I've always wanted to play but been too lazy to fire up the desktop PC.

There was a post where it mentioned it could be downloaded from the 'my abandonware' site so I downloaded it (and the no-cd crack) from there on the Deck

I extracted the downloaded zip and then copied over the no-cd file and then added the .exe to Steam as a non-Steam game. I've set the compatibility to Proton 7.0.3 and I think that was pretty much all I did

Steam can't even see the .exe when I try to add it in desktop mode. Did you need to run anything before you added it?

Looking forward to a half dozen posts where Dekay has strange issues setting up his Deck which people genuinely try to help with followed by a casual mention of how he originally setup his Steam account as being based in Malaysia and routed that through a VPN in Caracas to get 4% off DLC for some musou game.

Hopefully not. I have a standard, UK-based Steam account, on which I have never bought anything (bar the Deck itself) with actual money - just redeemed codes and spent card-sale credit.

There are no files or folders visible at all in the downloaded OutRun folder, even after opting to view all files. I've added Heroic launcher from home/deck/Games before, which is where I've unzipped and patched OutRun. I must be missing something.

Remember when I said that system level FSR looked way better on the Epic version of Death Stranding than the game's own implementation? It's because it doesn't do anything.  Sometimes that game just runs really smoothly at 40fps which must have thrown me off, while other times it struggles a bit. I might knock it down to 30.

I had a quick go on No Man's Sky which was pretty glorious, as you'd hope for a game that now runs on a Switch.

Yeah, never mind the pad, ACC is quite the resource hog and I doubt very much it’ll run acceptably on a Deck.
