I'm guessing if you got one before the text changed its a good chance you got the December allocation. Valve will know how many APU chips they will know in advance

I've been mulling getting a one-and-done emulation machine and the fact that this is so powerful, allows for other stuff to be installed, is mobile(ish) and has a dock on the horizon makes it seriously compelling.

I *think* I might have managed to preorder the 512GB one. It's currently listed as purchase pending, but the £4 has come out of my account. Hmm. 

 

I only wanted the 256GB one. I probably won't get this for another year, though, so there's time to save up, ha.

I've got to say, what little curiosity I had for the device has been swiftly overriden with antipathy courtesy of Valve timing its release perfectly to ensure that I can't log in to Steam to play Wildermyth and wind down on this Friday evening (and of course offline mode isn't working) :angry:

TBH, even if they're planning for multiple drops that are a bit later than December, that's fine by me. Early enough to get caught up in the hype, late enough to bin off the preorder if it's unmitigated disaster.

For now, though, it's time to sit on my todd and think about all those lovely, potentially fucked up indie PC games that no longer require port begging and only require a modest amount of power to look spiffing on a small LCD.

Portable New Vegas. Portable Metal Wolf Chaos XD. Portable Cruelty Squad and Hylics. Hell, throw in a bit of WINE and get Space Funeral going. Maybe.

OH GOD.

Got locked out for an hour due to too many purchase attempts.

 

After the hour, added £4 to my steam wallet.

 

Now the deck has gone from my cart and it says the reservation servers are busy.

 

FFS

 

Do they want people to order this or not?

It's a cool idea but I don't get the frantic clamour

 

My Switch has been unquestionably my most used console of recent times, simply because I can play it on the sofa and still technically be spending time with the missus. Plus, in pre-pandemic times, we'd be back and forth to Poland a fair bit to see family. Now I'll be able to play PC games in the same way! No more double-dipping on stuff purely so I can play it portable!

I used credit card, my deposit for a 512gb just (finally) went through. It’s a total pain though, even when in it’s in the cart and then even when you get the all clear to pay…. You have to keep trying

It's like a Switch but vastly more powerful at an extremely low price comparatively and it plays Steam, Epic, GOG, and Xbox Game Pass games on top of being backwards compatible with literally every Nintendo console ever made including the Switch. Even without the emulation it has a ready to go library going back umpteen decades.
