Anyone know what to do about that TV calibration screen? Happened in Tinykin quite a lot.

Found this on Reddit but not helpful: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/va8fnn/tv_color_barsstatic_in_place_of_ingame_videos/

From that thread -

When this happens, hit the steam button to pull up the left side overlay panel. Look at the game details and you should see that the game has spawned a separate window for the video playback. Switch to that window.

I think this bug happens because the game mode steam deck ui can only actively display one window. Same thing happens if a game needs to spawn windows for mod support or tangent functions.

It can also (usually) happen when it's a video codec that Valve can't provide for copyright/legal reasons, like encrypted Windows video media or whatever the fuck people use instead of Bink these days.

Your best bet is to branch into Proton GE, if you haven't already - it includes such video containers so it will attempt to play them properly. You can see an illustrated guide here on downloading ProtonUp from the store and downloading the latest ProtonGE to change your problematic games to.

I'm finding games that I only played on Switch previously have me performing better in the Steam Deck.

Dead Cells for example took me ages to beat the Concierge but managed it first time on Steam Deck.

I've not played Dead Cells in over a year so not as if I am well versed in it. If anything I had completely forgot how to play.

Might go back to a few games I loved on Switch but struggled to be good at such as Hollow Knight

Thanks, will try!

Just got the email say my pre order is ready to purchase but seem to stuck on working page on the last part should I just leave it to run ?

This is a problem many of us have with the Steam store. It’s shite, and something to do with the extra verification/authorisation. Try a different browser or device.

I've had mine since Saturday, but only managed to find a an hour or two to play. It's such a nice bit of kit, it hasn't given me a single issue with any of the games I've thrown at it yet, although trying to play Total Annihilation without a keyboard is little tricky. How does it work if I want to press control keys (like, erm, 'ctrl')? I couldn't find them in the on-screen keyboard.

The only game that gave me an issue was Singularity, but that's fair enough as it's old as heck and not supported. Shame though, as it looked lovely on the Deck, but controls were stuffed.

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot has had most of my time. It's listed as not supported but seems to run flawlessly and looks amazing.

Also played a spot of Borderlands, Oblivion, Shadow Complex and Tales of Arise. Finished just now with Everyone's Gone to the Rapture. That blew me away a bit tbh.

What a device. I haven't even begun messing with it properly yet.

I wonder if this could be the last one of these I post (some other late to the party Andy can take over punctuating all the gushing deck posts and questions).

Numbers climbing again after the lull from around when reviews came out.

The latest order to get a mail is 30 days ahead of mine. And they've shipped 28 days of orders since last Thursday.

So could be this Thursday or next Monday I think. Or the following Thursday.

The Steam Input system will let you map most keybinds (including ctrl/alt/fkeys) to any part of the controller, including combinations of button presses, radial menus for multiple options and even system binds (like taking a screenshot or toggling the magnifier).

As @Opinionated Ham Scarecrow also mentioned controls on Singularity, I recommend to both of you to peruse this handy illustrated guide on Steam Input here. The start of the guide is off-target, but it does go into the meatier things Steam Input can do and how to access community profiles if you're not aware already.

I played Off-Peak today, after playing Betrayal at Club Low. It's free, mad as a box of frogs and runs with very little issues on the deck. I've even made a custom profile for it, after playing through it once (it's a game that is about half an hour max, perfect for the deck battery life /s)
