Steam Deck (handheld from Valve) - shipping is 4-8 days from NL to UK

Steam Dock seems to work beautifully. :) No obvious graphical/audio delays and the controller works fine this way. Having Vampire Survivors blown up across a 55" screen is nice. 😜

Everything seems to work fine. The Dock itself definitely relies on the weight of the Deck though. If you got stubborn cables, be prepared for the Dock to move around quite a bit. One less obvious feature is how to access the …-menu via controller. Can't seem to find a shortcut.

[edit] Ah, it's PS Button+Cross to access that menu.

Also, I just noticed there seems to be a power cycling issue: if the Dock is powered through USB-C, sometimes the signal may not come through over HDMI. You'll then have to disconnect the the USB-C cable and establish a signal before plugging in again.

After that chat about 3.5mm headphones for the Deck, I decided to give the wired headphones I keep in the office a whirl (KZ ZSN in-ears).

Yeah, the headphone jack situation is miles better than what it was - there was an issue during the first few months where the sound didn't have any filtering, so there was shitloads of static noise if you ever used the jack. That's fixed, so it sounds superb now.

and that is xbox xcloud setup and running fine - I've got no dock or keyboard or mouse so can confirm it's entirely possible using just the deck controls and getting familiar with copy/paste, but you need to be very precise with the stages and the konsole command and bits you add on to the properties of edge browser to make it all work, i had to redo a couple of steps to get them precisely copied.

Ordered last Thursday and just received an email from Parcelforce saying my deck is being delivered tomorrow!

Same. Along with my copy of the Gamesmaster book, today has been a good day for delivery companies.

How’s the rest of the Evri nightmare crew getting on? Do you all have yours yet?

Getting a bad feeling about my replacement - very messy, back and forth tracking since it hit the UK at the weekend. I thought it might go smoother this time as it’s headed to a Parcelshop!

Not sure my F5 can take a third attempt, so hoping it surfaces.

Getting the Dock is worth it alone for letting you play FFVI Pixel Remaster on the big screen.

Also did a couple of runs in Dead Cells and yeah, image/sound transfer fast enough alright.

Of note for people who get controller buttons mixed up across platforms: while the PS5 DualSense is supported, only SteamOS seems to recognize and use the appropriate symbols. A lot of games will simply default to Xbox terminology and symbols. So if that gets your head all mixed up, stick with an Xbox Series controller (if you use an Xbox One controller, you'll most likely also need to plug a dongle into the Dock).

I’m hitting this when wanting to boot into windows while plugged into a dock. Hopefully it’ll get fixed, but hdmi cable pop out/in is manageable for now. Good to see someone else describe the issue though :)

Steam support seems to suggest it might be due to the HDMI cable? I was recycling the Switch HDMI cable for the Dock, will try the PS5 one tonight. Might improve things. But yeah, also hoping this is a firmware update away from being fixed.

Thanks, their link was indeed wrong :)

Are there any recommendations for screen protectors and/or other protection measures? I have a toddler and two other kids and they're experts in destroying things. We've had 4 iPad screens wrecked (two by me as I was using my iPad for emails/slack whilst working-from-home + looking after kids so they get juggled).

Be sure to check the Dutch GLS website as the tracking link in the e-mails usually doesn't work or tells you the package hasn't been received yet.

Aha so that's why the link didn't work for me! Ah well, if that's the worst problem we have with the  Deck delivery here in the Netherlands then we're very lucky indeed. The horror stories about Evri in the UK in this thread....

A vault?

Reddit seems to be full with people getting a Killswitch. No idea if that'll withstand kids though.

Apparently you don’t need one according to some people in this thread. They’ve never used one on their phones or any of their consoles and it’s never been an issue!

Spoiler

I bought these. It installed fine and you wouldn’t know it’s on there. Also have a spare: https://amzn.eu/d/3iD6MFh

Any glass ones would be fine though I suspect.

🤣

Indeed!  And I stand by it!  Literally never had an issue.  Don't let your kids use your stuff for starters.

It's worth mentioning that Jsaux and Benzacap are starting to sell screen protectors with deck specific physical guides and applicators, if you're especially cack-handed.

OTOH, I think the screen on the deck recesses just enough that you can eyeball it, really.

They ship from Netherlands in the first place so shouldn't be too much of an issue for youse.

Honestly the biggest problem I had was GLS, once Evri got it it was fine but GLS never updated anything.

Spoke too soon. Despite getting the email from Parcelfarce stating delivery today, it’s still sitting in the depot.

So @Treblesuggested this to me during the podcast recording today.

does reshade work on Steam Deck and could I use it to help with accessibility?

eg:

The build backgrounds in LEGO Brick Tales are a light grey could I use reshade to turn then dark grey to help me set?
