No clue what I did different tonight but started trying to install Humble Collection again and it only went and worked.

Only thing I can think is using as lower case letter somewhere when it was meant to be uppercase and not noticing.

Anyway got it running. Now to work out how to run it in Game Mode on the deck.

Pumpkin Jack is only a tenner on cdkeys at the moment and is the perfect Halloween game. Reminds me a lot of Pshychonauts so far.

How are you finding it? I remember giving it a go and finding it quite ropey performance wise on the deck, but I didn't really look that hard into performance adjustments or anything. It's very possible I missed a trick.

Had a quick play of The Monster Inside - a tidy little film noir story. And I do mean little, because I bulldozed the entire fucking thing in 15 minutes. It's free and neat, though.

Running at a 40 cap with dlss on and everything on medium and it feels and looks great so far.

Ah well. You'll easily get your money back selling it still.

Whilst I'm sure you'll get good money for it it's not money back any more I wouldn't think. There are no no queues. You can simply buy a new one from Valve.

I’m thinking I made a mistake buying this, it’s barely been out of its case in the two weeks I’ve had it.

What are you playing that's stopping you use using the Deck. Or are you just not gaming at the moment?

Most of my gaming is done via Game Pass with the odd game purchased here and there.

The original intention was to use this for emulation, for Xbox cloud gaming and then for some steam games too.

So far all I’ve done is try and play Forza 5 which isn’t that great due to my broadband probably, given the trombone simulator game a go (that is pretty good to be fair) and the boys downloaded some sort of potato boy game.

i think I got caught up in the hype mode around this, seems to be an absolute cracker if you already use Steam for gaming which we don’t really. Might try and get the emu side sorted over the weekend, can catch up on some of the older games via that I suppose.

It's there any kind of stylus that works in the deck screen? I tried one from the 3DS but that didn't work.

Want something for DS/3DS games so I can keep my stupid human hands out of the way

I would guess you need a capacitive stylus

Bit late to this but quite like Dorfromantik, a very relaxed tile placing village building game/toy.

Runs fine but does need you to dip into community control schemes to find one that works better than the default (which is why it not fully verified i think).

Dorfromantik is brilliant. But I struggled in Steam Deck (played it mostly on PC).

What community profile are you using @Gotters

I used one called ‘best steam deck’ by screwattackthis. There is quite a lot of choice so can’t say it is the best but I got to grips with it quickly

Dorfromantik's on my list. I've had to stop buying things so I actually play something on it!

Shame to see Grounded is having issues with the xbox live login pop-up -- would be great to have the native version on there so I can successfully set up multiplayer with the kids.

Dorfromantik is fabulous. A great example.od.a game that might be nice on PC but i do not ever want to sit at a PC to play it. Perfect chill on the sofa experience.

I did the same and then started editing it to make it a little more to my tastes. With a good starting point it's possible to make it pretty good.

it's one of many examples of how good I think the UI is on this, the custom control layouts are very intuitive to browse and adopt (even for somebody who doesn't like PC style fiddling to get things setup) and I like how they show the number of downloads and the time played on each file so you can get a feel for a good un

I do wish people would label their buttons when submitting to the community. Just so I can know what the letter your put in 'X' is rather than just saying U.

This should be:

X Button

U - Undo

A Button

Enter - Confirm

Etc

I'm going to make and put out a community profile with proper labels for Dorfromantik

To be fair, IIRC labels are a pretty recent edition to Deck's Steam Input UI, like region menus and action layers.

Also, you fucked up by not calling it Deckfromantik. You're welcome 8-)

Dorfromantik is incredibly addictive on laptop but on deck I found the controls and smaller graphics detract a lot from it. It's a total zen thing I can lose hours to normally. Need to try these other configs.

Urbek City Builder scratches a similar itch, superficially more of a city builder (at first it reminded me of the old impressions games) than Dorfromantik but underneath that aesthetic it's this really chilled out puzzle game.

Spent a night playing Cultic on my LG C9 via the official dock, and a PS5 controller.

i wouldn’t say I’m impressed, because it has that PC friction and faff, that I can’t stand, but it’s so much closer to a ‘just works’ experience than my crappy third party dock.

The extra charger really takes the edge of the cost, but it’s still a lot. I’m disappointed by the lack of a hdmi cable. The dock having a manual usb c to plug in each time, has the best possible design to solve the stupidest design decision they’ve lumbered themselves with.

You can’t wake from the pad, so you have to get up to turn it on, like in the olden days. It can’t send any handshake data stuff it seems, so the tv won’t auto switch to it. It’s gotta be manually chsnged.  At least  the dual sense  remembers it’s the steam deck pad and auto connects afterwards. No fiddling with the deck menu each time.

After experimenting the Duel Sense is a far better choice than an Xbox pad as a) the gyro works and b) the touch pad can control the mouse. You do lose the quick switch function that the Xbox pad has - but that kept bugging out for me, so not worth a trade.

im playing a retro FPS, so I can’t say anything meaningful about rez etc. but I’m only hoping for a 720p machine. No lag, etc.

All in all, I’m very glad I bought it, I was missing the switch experience, but now I’ve 90% of the experience back - just with a bit more fuss.

That all sounds shit compared to just holding the bloody thing and playing games while Shrek is on the telly.

Also, thanks to @Opinionated Ham Scarecrow for convincing me to try Pumpkin Jack again - I'm guessing I was just attempting to run it with everything turned off for 60fps and it was dropping to mid 40s, but 40hz refresh is really good for it.

My setup for Dorf is:

  • Mouse on both trackpads
  • D-pad moves the map
  • Left analogue rotates and zooms the map
  • Bumpers and triggers rotate the tile
  • "A" to place tile

I should probably put place tile on one of the back buttons too. Don't like removing my finger from the pad to press that
