Anyone tried Cultic: Chapter One?  I usually watch Fan the deck on YouTube who usually gives indie game suggestions to play on the deck and this looked interesting as I’m a massive fan of 90’s style shooters

its sitting comfortably at number two (behind Elden Ring) s my GOTY. It’s absolutely brilliant. And plays great on deck.

Royal Mail have delivered my steam deck dock! Unfortunately not to me and I have no idea who got it.

Are Valve any good with this sort of thing or will they wipe their hands of it and palm me off to parcelforce?

I know a lot of you have been worried so today Valve confirmed they were sending me another dock (after I messaged them parcel forces proof of delivery, a picture of a door and then a subsequent picture of my own, entirely different door).

I tried neighbouring apartment/flats buildings, including the same number door in the building next to mine. The lady said she didn’t have it. She was very rude. Last time she got a piece of my mail she finally dropped it round 4 weeks later. A few months back I ended up getting a pair of pricey trousers from farfetch (it was on the shipping label, I didn’t open it). I dropped it round 5 minutes later. Next time I get her trousers I’ll be keeping them. Hope they have sequins or something.

Just spent the last three hours trying to get Rufus to create a Windows To Go SD with no luck. Kept shitting out at 30% no matter what I tried.

I had no problem with it, but I did read that the newest version is fucking up some people trying to use Rufus for Windows To Go. Try an older version (there's a link for them underneath the download)

Speaking of adventures, I got P5R working - and found the analog movement was locked in one direction. So I had to follow this guide to clean up some files that were meeting things up. And that was after waiting half an hour for a restart that never happened because of an update that locked up.

The game's working alright, at least. Well, after turning off the online mode because the starting but just throws up constant errors, but that's more a problem with the game pass version than some problem with the OS itself.

In all, it's very cool to get the latest game pass stuff on the deck, but the whole experience around it to keep the fans in check, to get the controller working with some level of sanity, maintaining the TDP and most importantly trying to stop Windows from murdering the SD card by default is very much that meme from Invincible when compared to just, I don't fucking know, turning it on and pressing start on a game in SteamOS:

Playing the new Forza gonna be Hella sick, though.

Just leaving my fully automated German train route running whilst watching the F1.

So I can build up a budget to expand.

Rail Route was crack on the PC on handheld it is the pure blue stuff.

Been playing Bayonetta on the deck as my first full game. I don’t even think the fans come on for this one as it’s barely breaking a sweat.

Got an RMA for it though so it’s going back tomorrow. Like many recently touchpad issues. Not specifically haptics but the right pad is registering clicks with a feather touch meaning anything using the pads is broken. Heard lots of others with similar issues including Sean from TCGS this week. And they didn’t hesitate to issue me an RMA either which makes me think they know there’s an issue. Shame. At least I’ve had a blast with it and hopefully will get a working unit back within a few weeks.

Discovered Fallout 3 wasn’t running at highest settings. So now it is. You can see for a million miles and the Deck’s fan doesn’t even seem to come in and the battery has lasted about 6 hours so far today and has 45% left. Dark magic at work here when ScourgeBringer, a simple 2D indie game melts the handheld and wipes the battery out in 90 minutes.

My son wants a gaming laptop mainly so he can play Alyx on his Oculus… is the steam deck good enough for that, would kill two birds with one stone? I’m

Depends how he feels about 10 fps, crashes and missing textures. At least that’s what I saw when someone attempted it on YouTube a while back.

’No‘ is the sensible answer though.

That, and you'd have to use Windows as I don't think anyone's bothered to make Oculus/SteamVR stuff compatible.

It's about as much as a non-starter as you can get with the deck. Highly incompatible and enough low-res frame drops to make you vomit.

This. Don’t even think about it. A half decent gaming laptop (2070?+)will do it but no chance on the SD.

Finally got my Steam Deck up and running - this thing is glorious isn't it 🥰

Echoing everyone above me, Vampire Survivors seems made for SD, and can really see myself getting through a couple of those indie games way quicker than sat at a desk on the PC. Also got Apex running and pretty locked in at 60fps - someone on Youtube mentioned you can drop the settings to around 'Medium everything' and can confirm it still looks (and plays!) great due to the screen being smaller.

Absolutely delighted with the thing - next up: need to get a proper dock for it.

Also are we all using the official case, or is the Jsaux one worth the £25 upgrade?

@CBT yes, it really is great. Part of the excitement for me is that new hardware feeling. I’ve been distracted away from gaming for a while so this has pretty much passed me by. I purchased it on an impulse and have been blown away. I’ve not put the specs to the test really yet as I’ve mostly been playing Retro Bowl franchise (gridiron game) and emulation.

I keep wondering what the current gen games like Cyberpunk, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn are like on the deck. I would actually have the opportunity to play during work breaks, in bed, or on the sofa while my wife watches The Great Ready, set, MasterChef British cookathon or whatever.

But not sure if they are really practical on the small screen?

That is one great thing about the deck - you can mostly fuck off high resolution textures and (more importantly) Shadow quality and ambient occlusion - you'll hardly realise they're gone on the smaller screen.

I'm still using the case that came with it. The recess in the case is more than enough to store a travel sized 45w Samsung power adapter, the cable that comes with the power adapter and some cheapy Bluetooth buds.

There's plenty of videos of people playing them on the deck on YouTube. Although from my understanding, the PC port of Horizon is dodgy as fuck and falls apart late game when it comes to stability and performance, even on larger computers, so I'd steer clear even with the initial segments looking great on YouTube.

Horizon Zero Dawn runs like shit. It’s verified and looks incredible at the start but once you get past the opening section and into the open world it tanks. God of War and cyberpunk (surprisingly) fare a lot better, I’m told. Spider-Man runs looks pretty good at 30fps, you can drop some settings and get 40 pretty consistently, too.

Seems like a right ball-ache to get Minecraft on the deck.  Any done it?

Bedrock is basically a no-go, but Java is perfectly fine via launchers on Discover.

I did have PolyMC on mine, but apparently the creator of PolyMC has gone rogue so all the authorisation codes have been revoked after other developers in the team contacted Microsoft.

I heard ATLauncher is okay. Don't know if it's on Discover yet, though.

EDIT: it's on Flathub, so you should be able to either grab it from Discover or just use the Flatpak.

Absolutely adore that game. Saw it’s had a couple of pretty meaty updates so will have to pick it up again
