I don't think there are any cases like that. What would the point be?

I mean, he literally posted a link to one a few posts up. :D

I guess if you use your Deck while out and about a lot I can kind of see the point, just like a phone case. Unlike a phone though, it's surely a lot more important to keep the Deck as ergonomic as possible. I'd just make sure the Deck goes back into its carry case when you're not using it.

the only thing worse than a hard case are those skins you tubers seem to plaster over their decks, one is sticky backed leather thing.

the only thing worse than full skins are stickers.

Can't relate:

(that said, the limited surface area of the Steam Deck and the fact it runs hotter than the surface of the sun does mean I don't foresee stickering it up any time soon)

This is exactly what I have on mine. Fits like a glove, doesnt worry me to leave it on a table as it won't slide around or scratch the back. Spigen are top tier case makers, last 4 phones I've had have had their case covers on them.

I've done a lot of buying games on the Deck that I own on other platforms, but never done the reverse, especially with the Switch. I think I don't really trust Nintendo to let me carry the purchases over to their next console.

One of the reasons I bought a Deck was to stop having to buy Switch versions of PC games I already owned but didn’t play.

This looks interesting, another string to the deck bow.

As a non PC gamer til recently (I had to create a Steam account to buy a deck) I don't really know though what GOG or Epic stores bring to the party, assume epic is a couple of exclusives, is it just price arbitrage though beyond that ?

Epic give away 1-2 games every week, some of them really good. I have over 100 free games from their store.

GOG sells games without DRM, so you can download and keep them even if GOG go belly-up. They also put some work into making older games still playable on newer systems, and provide extra stuff for some games - soundtracks, manual scans, guides etc. But for modern games, yeah it's usually just down to price.

After being fairly gushy about the SteamDeck, I've run into my first major annoyance...

That is, the Bluetooth on it seems to be piss-weak. I have real trouble maintaining a controller connection from just a few metres away when using it docked. Constant disconnections, super-laggy inputs. I've found the same with Xbox, 8bitdo and PS5 controllers. It's got to the point where I have to kind of wave the controller in the air before me to maintain a line of sight, because if I drop it down and the path is obscured by my legs or the coffee table, it disconnects.

Going to do some testing with an 8bitdo USB dongle to see if I can improve things.

I've always found that with any Bluetooth connection, frankly. It's just not a very good wireless standard with all manner of interference. especially if you're connecting multiple things to it.

Audio is okay quality wise, but you're riddled with Audio Lag and it can be super distracting if you're sensitive to it. I don't mind it myself in general gameplay, but I'd probably be malding if I played DJ Max or Metal Hellsinger.

New Heroic is really good. Installed two games from Epic and one from GOG and went back to gaming mode and all three there with full artwork.

Then playing them feels just like playing native Steam game.

It'll open to the other stores for me as a lot less fuss. Hope they can get that level of seamlessness for other storefronts down the line.

So it seems PSX emulation has randomly just totally broken on emudeck for me. Default emulator states as missing now, others won’t boot games and duckstation just fails to load any ISO.

Fuck knows what has happened there.

I often get drops using my Xbox Series Wireless headset. Noticeable lag on cutscenes/lip sync, too

I think I might have solved my problem... I have the official dock, and into the back of it, I had plugged two USB dongles - a dongle for a wireless keyboard and a dongle for a plugin chatpad for the Xbox controller. As soon as I unplugged these, my BT problems went away. Just played for 2.5 hours without a single disconnected or lag spike!

Oh cool. I'll try that now. I've got a chunk of stuff in my Gog Library (Not so fussed about Epic. It's mostly free stuff)

Had a quick dabble with heroic launcher - got the Epic store version of Rocket League up and running very nicely. Just played a 4x4 online game.

Got the option checked to add to steam library but its not done that so need to check why on the vid I posted as he goes thru that.

Need to restart Steam. Going from desktop to gaming mode should do that.

Yeah did that and it wasn’t there.

Fired up and played Rocket League in desktop, back to gaming and not there.

Will investigate tom, just having it running felt a result !

How odd. Did you install it in desktop mode? Or did you install in gaming mode?

Been playing Tell Me Why on this, connected to my LG CX. The Deck does a pretty good job playing it at 1080p at high settings. For story type games you don't need super high frame rates anyway of course... I suspect I'm getting a better experience than you would on an Xbox One or even a One X, though.

It's already relatively easy to add games through Heroic, in the settings for a game I think. This just removes that extra step I suppose.

I have had to launch some games (Superhot and Rayman Legends) through the real EGS to get them to work for some reason, though.
