If I was to go the CEX route too, any particular brands to go for?

Also, any dock recommendations?

Kioxia seems to be the go to brand on a budget, they are a subbrand of toshiba i think. Ive asked my wife for an ivolver dock for xmas, i wanted one that i could use with a case and the official one won't work with any case

yes the ivolver dock is really nice for cradling a deck with cases as it’s well supported. Make sure she gets the pro version which gives you the Ethernet port unless they release a better version before Christmas.

JC 3 & 4 were rubbish, you can feel the magic playing 2 again that were just absent in the sequels.

It’s a sandbox but not over fiddly or complicated, just good honest blow shit up 80s action movie with some nice physics and tether action.

I’m in absolute awe about how good the 360 era games look and run on this. Halo Reach and Max Payne 3 at 60fps on a handheld device is as mind-blowing a technical leap for me as anything in the past decade.

Shit, put DOOM Eternal on your Deck if you really want to be terrified/astonished at the technology. Both Lord Gabe and high overlord of the dark realms John Carmack have worked absolute witchcraft with that one.

360 emulator? Xenia?

It refuses to install on mine from the EmuDeck tools.

I don't know why.

It's not ready yet, at least for Linux. Xenia originally relied on Direct X 12, which is Windows only. The development team are currently working on making the Vulkan renderer just as good as DX12, which is why it's in the tools - it's just there for preparation for that.

You can force the most recent Canary versions of Xenia to work through Proton, but more often than not it'll crash when trying to load a game.

Even with Cyberpunk being in a fairly tatty state even with FSR2.1 implemented, there's points where I'm riding through the city on a bike, and I just pan the camera at the crowded skyline and just think 'how the fuck is this working on a handheld'.

Although, as mentioned, there is something about seeing something forgotten that's been stuck on consoles a couple of gens back just looking smashing on a small screen. Most recently it's been Pure, but there's no lack of PC games and ports that look fantastic in this format.

I've only owned this a month and a half and ive been playing through the Halo CE remaster, Singularity, Bulletstorm, Super Woden GP, Steel Empire, Titanfall 2, Vanquish, SkyDrift, Shatter, Lunistice, Grip, Ex Zodiac and now Donut Dodo. I'm burnt out on Triple A titles on the modern systems and just loving being able to get loads of older titles running on it with a splattering a cheap indie titles that usually cost a fortune on the switch

Heroic launcher stuff - Rocket League been playing perfectly in game mode then last night wouldn’t load, said game not installed.

Went into desktop this morning to checkout heroic launcher and looked like the Epic & GOG stores just signed out, so signed back in.

RL now fine again in game mode, do the store credentials time out and need updating back in heroic to keep games launching ?

Can’t believe how well Just Cause 2 plays on this. It’s just not compromised at all.

The game was always about that sense of freedom but feels even more liberating playing on the sofa on a handheld.

I can’t get JC2 working at all. I already had Proton GE but that didn’t help - tried some older versions suggested on Reddit and the latest - can’t get beyond a black screen or a spinning steam logo depending on version. :(

How odd, i did nothing other than get from steam and in the compatibility settings for the game use GE Proton 7-41.

It’s never misbehaved at all.

I'd be inclined to check the files you downloaded from Steam, if there's an agreed consensus that the game works in some capacity. There should be an option to check the file integrity via the cog on the game page - I've had multiple occasions where I couldn't get a game running, only to find out the download got fucked up for x reason.
