Steam Deck (handheld from Valve) - shipping is 4-8 days from NL to UK

After getting Ubisoft Connect and Trackmania installed the other day today I've dived into Battle.net to try out World of Warcraft.

A pretty simply process now I understand how the Proton wrappers and compatdata areas work so it seems to have gone pretty smoothly.

WoW was an addiction when it was released but fancy dabbling a bit. I saw there was a UI addon called Console Port which allows you to do basically everything with a gamepad. The Steam Deck is more powerful than that as you can have a pointer too.

Some clever people have gotten Tempest 4000 working properly with the music. Steps are as follows

1. Install

2. Go to the install directory in desktop mode and  under both versions (Win 7 and 10) go into the assets folder and rename the atari.mp4 video to something else (Or delete it).

3. Delete the following folder if it exists deck\.local\share\Steam\steamapps\compatdata\688140

4. Install Proton 6.12-GE-1 using the desktop Proton updater

5. Set the compatibility for the game to the above Proton

6. Don't go into a trance lads

I'm going to try it on my lunch break

I can confirm this works but I accidentally went into a trance lads.

I've been getting blitzed with system updates the last few days. It's a bit annoying actually.

If it helps, you're not actually required to install any of them. It's probably better to stay on an older version for a day or two in case anything breaks, like the above.

(Although I don't think this stops Steam itself updating on booting the device, but that's less likely to break shit).

In other news, I bothered to get Ship of Harkinian running. 60fps Zelda OoT with a free camera on the right stick is weird, but highly welcome.

Seems a naughty change that one, wasn't in any of the beta or preview builds and people on reddit had some big issues (possibly caused by post 3.4 fiddling to solve the problem in some cases).

Appears 3.4.1 rolls it back but they intend to put this out in the future as is standardising the Deck conventions in terms of path structures. But expect more notice next time.

It'll break things like Heroic too I'd wager (if games on SD not internal storage) for anything you've got installed via that.

Don't think the sale starts til 6PM :(

Correct.

Worth noting that, for the most part, the Autumn and Winter sales are homogenised these days - you'll find any reductions in the last sale will be the same.

Of course, that doesn't account for any new reductions (as in, games that were not in the Autumn sale at all), or what other approved key resellers are doing for discounts. As always, check a comparison site for the best deals!

I bought my SteamDeck a few days after the last sale ended so missed loads :( I'm ready to jump right in and waste some cash, got a couple of hundred to throw at it this time 🤣

I've been adding things to my watchlist, reading the discussions on certain games, carefully poring over Deck compatibility. As somebody who hasn't PC gamed since Magic Carpet and Bullfrog on a 486 desktop PC in 1997 researching games on Steam has almost become a daily hobby.

Then what happens is something goes on sale and I go 'only 60% off, no way' and remove it from the watchlist.

Got the installation done and game running, along with the Curseforge addon manager and the ones I wanted.

This morning I got about an hour in to play through the first few levels. I was mostly though trying to understand this ConsolePort addon which is very comprehensive. At least at very low level it works well enough. I suspect that at least for solo play it will work fine.

I can see me loving being able to dip in and out of this on the sofa.

Anyone using DeckyLoader, there is now a SteamGridDB plugin that allows you to change artwork by the options mercye and search directly through SGDB.

It's brilliant.

yeah I just installed that this morning, very nice.

@GottersYeah, if I spent half the time playing games as I do researching/browsing the store, I’d have a real chance of getting through my backlog

Most of the fun is going back through your bought list years later and trying things you forgot. I was trying to buy something I already owned the other day 🤣 Couple of times I've purchased something on Xbox and realised its on my purchased Steam list.

Oh thank god. Was having a bad time with SGDBoop so this is much much easier.

I'll have to sort out Decky Loader - I had to set the password on the deck in an attempt to sort out some other bullshit (some of my Flatpak apps on discover are falling to update, still not sure why), so everything's set.

Something to fuck around with while waiting for the Steam sale!

yes found out about this on Reddit yesterday.  It’s brilliant.  Although I wish SteamgridDB was a comprehensive as Emumovies which Launchbox uses on my desktop.  SteamgridDB is not good at finding artwork for the home computing era like Zx spectrum, Commodore 64, Amiga etc
