Steam Deck (handheld from Valve) - shipping is 4-8 days from NL to UK

So I’m looking at a potentially 10 month wait before getting mine and it looks like we’ve run out of things to say about it.

Even if you have to wait forever, I'm sure it will be a triumph once it's yourz and you're reunited with your Steam Library in an exciting new handheld format.

Well, yeah - we already know the Supreme Architecture of what's inside the Deck, and we know the library that's going to be on it. There's no need to speculate and go off Visionz.

All I know is that I'll be getting the deck, plonking on New Vegas and get On That Sht Again from the comfort of my bed.

I agree - priced relative to the tech in the switch the steam deck should start around £600 or the Switch should cost about 50p the other way around

im sure there’ll be lots to talk about one this is released into the wild.  Between the flexibility of this thing and the community that is going to push this thing to its limits I cannot wait to see what cool things are done.  I can see perhaps Deck specific games being released with a “best played on the deck” sticker or “optimised for Steamdeck”

I assume that is the primary reason why Valve are sending out dev kits to interested developers at present, so they can tailor controls and settings on their games for it.

Valve has some guidelines for best practice on developing games with Linux compatibility in mind, though not sure if the average indie dev is upto working with a low-level API like Vulkan.

Not worth paying the upgrade fee if you've got it on PS4 though.

If this turns out to be a success, I do wonder if third parties will get involved in varying flavours/variants once they get all up in it's guts.

Large pinch of salt re. the implication you could run any of those games for 6 hours at those settings on a single charge.

Apparently these benches were done on OpenGL not Vulkan.

Also some pretty big news for the Steam deck and Linux, easy anti cheat now works on Linux and battle eye have said their games will be compatible with the Deck. I don't play multi-player games but I know this was a big talking point but it looks like Valve are delivering on their promises.

From what I've heard the Steam Deck is immensely strong and immune to nearly any tool or modification. But when it's properly used, it's almost invincible.

They had to, really. Otherwise those not knowledgeable about electronics could potentially be steamrollin' Steam Decks like an 18 wheeler with a drunk driver driving, there's no surviving.
