Can It Be All That Simple?

Well, yeah - we already know the Supreme Architecture of what's inside the Deck, and we know the library that's going to be on it. There's no need to speculate and go off Visionz.

All I know is that I'll be getting the deck, plonking on New Vegas and get On That Sht Again from the comfort of my bed.

Bit concerned about the price of this thing. Is the steam deck really for the children? I guess cash rules everything.

I agree - priced relative to the tech in the switch the steam deck should start around £600 or the Switch should cost about 50p the other way around

So I’m looking at a potentially 10 month wait before getting mine and it looks like we’ve run out of things to say about it.

im sure there’ll be lots to talk about one this is released into the wild.  Between the flexibility of this thing and the community that is going to push this thing to its limits I cannot wait to see what cool things are done.  I can see perhaps Deck specific games being released with a “best played on the deck” sticker or “optimised for Steamdeck”

“optimised for Steamdeck”

I assume that is the primary reason why Valve are sending out dev kits to interested developers at present, so they can tailor controls and settings on their games for it.

Valve has some guidelines for best practice on developing games with Linux compatibility in mind, though not sure if the average indie dev is upto working with a low-level API like Vulkan.

There's nothing new to talk about, we're all sitting on our hands until someone gets hold of release hardware..

Here's a short story for you in the meantime:

When I was little, my father was famous. He was the greatest Samurai in the empire and he was the Shogun's decapitator. He cut off the heads of 131 lords. It was a bad time for the empire.

The Shogun just stayed inside his castle and he never came out, people said his brain was infected by devils. My father would come home, he would forget about the killings. He wasn't scared of the Shogun, but the Shogun was scared of him, maybe that was the problem.

Then, one night, the Shogun sent his ninja spies to our house. They were supposed to kill my father but they didn't. That was the night everything changed.

One thing I’ll be glad of with Steam Deck is the accuracy of the track pads. I’d been dreading playing mouse-controlled games like Chicory and Disco Elysium on a console with unwieldy analogue sticks, but with the Deck’s trackpads I can be all careful, click click.

Choose the track pads, and you will join me.
Choose the analogue sticks, and you join your mother... in death.
You don't understand my words, but you must choose.

So, come boy, choose life or death.

Not worth paying the upgrade fee if you've got it on PS4 though.

Somebody in China got access to a dev kit model and ran some benchmarks.

During his testing, the reviewer measured the temperatures on the Steam Deck. He noted that the rear of the handheld PC was around 42.6 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius on the grips. In about three hours of game time, the battery life went from 100% to 46%. This is the development kit so there is margin for optimization. For reference, the Steam Deck is equipped with a 40 Wh Lithium-ion battery.

Also some pretty big news for the Steam deck and Linux, easy anti cheat now works on Linux and battle eye have said their games will be compatible with the Deck. I don't play multi-player games but I know this was a big talking point but it looks like Valve are delivering on their promises.

Pretty cool of Valve to show the disassembly and explain the potential problems.

They had to, really. Otherwise those not knowledgeable about electronics could potentially be steamrollin' Steam Decks like an 18 wheeler with a drunk driver driving, there's no surviving.
