And hell, to be a little more helpful:

Lo, the holy trinity of unfortunately-sized handhelds (plus the perfection that is the Vita) is complete.

You know what, I love the Lynx, I love the Wii U.

Damn it you fool, I'm in!

Small print: I will in fact not be in. But if I got one for free or cheap I would probably love it as well.

This actually looks far more comfortable to hold than the switch as it has those grips at the back

The original switch was an absolute nightmare for me and I used it 99% in handheld.

The only thing putting me off is the battery life.

I've had one these for ages for my Switch, loads more comfortable.  Looks similar...

Yeah, there's been plenty of crowd-funded machines already (Aya Neo, GPD Win 3, GX Pro), but I can see Microsoft having a crack at making a portable if this takes off - they already have the hardware manufacturing chops if you look at the Surface (especially as they're Intel-based x86 units, and Intel want to make Iris GPUs a thing), They have an operating system they can subsidize in Windows 11, and they have a product to sell in the form of Windows Store/Game Pass.

If they made one they'd definitely lock it down as an Xbox, rather than as a PC with full Windows access, don't you think?

That's the wrong way to look at it. The comparison would work if the xbox series s was used to output games at 720p - then yes its half the power.

The Deck outputs at 16:10 version of 720p on a 7 inch screen

1200 x 800 = 960,000 pixels

But the Series S is used for 1080p-1440p on average I am guessing on a 40inch plus TV

Being generous and saying it was an exclusive 1080p console

1080p pixel count is  2,073,600 pixels

So approx twice the required pixels to render the same game at the same fidelity. The resolution means it has a lot of power behind it - look at this 1050ti which is considered a fairly budget/lower end card on PC at 768p:

I understand that and in fairness I probably picked the wrong post to respond to when I voiced my concerns. It looks like a very capable device and I'll probably try to get on the waiting list for one but I think some people saw the words "handheld gaming PC" and jumped to some very unrealistic conclusions about just how powerful it is.

Scalpers having fun I bet.

Not unless Scalpers had accounts for a few months with the knowledge that the Steam Deck was a thing.

This is fairly normal behaviour for a Steam Sale, let alone a hardware reservation launch.
