I was having difficulty buying games earlier - now I seem to be having problems opening pages on the Steam website at all.  And my Deck crashed!

That version is missing tracks, mind.

Can't wait to get mine to see if I can get OR2SPDX up and running via teknoparrot without the need for Windows.

Teknoparrot on the deck would be all kinds of amazing!

I loaded up Cyberpunk earlier to put the Deck through its paces, and it handled it pretty well really. I was playing the GOG version, and while it had a built in "Steam Deck" graphics preset it didn't seem very well optimised. After lowering a few settings though it managed to hold near enough 30 fps while looking very nice indeed.

It did however gobble up half the battery in about half an hour, so I don't think this thing is going to be much of a portable Cyberpunk machine. :D

I'm downloading Yakuza Kiwami 2 now, which I think will be the first game I properly play on this thing.

I keep wanting to try Cyberpunk now. But yet to hit the right price for me.

It was £25 in the Steam sale. I was tempted to double dip, but figured that would be a bit daft.

It's about £15 for the GOG version on CDkeys though.

Well this is annoying.

Just got my email through. Yay. Went through and put in my order, used PayPal which is linked to my bank account. Then I get a text from my bank saying that they declined the payment and to reply YES if it was actually me. Which I did, but then it came back and said ‘if you need to make the payment again please wait ten minutes’.

Well if I follow the link I got in the email from Steam I just have to order a deck as if I’m putting in a new order.

Not sure what to do. If I check my PayPal account it says it’s gone through, but if I check my bank it hasn’t come out of there, and I can’t imagine that it will if they say they declined it.

Check your steam page to see if the order has actually gone through. It may well have and the bank is just slow to update.

If it hasn’t, contact steam support. There’s a few days grace if you miss the 3 day cut off so I’m sure they’ll be fine with a messed up payment.

According to Steam I’ve put the order in and it says it’s processing, but according to my bank they declined the payment and said to place the order again, which I obviously can’t do.

As you say, I’ll try contacting Steam support, cheers.

@Mystacon Same thing happened to me on Monday. If you check the email it should say 'your payment will be taken by direct debit on x date' or similar. The funds only left my account today when I got tracking info so you should be fine.

I wish someone would post an idiot proof method of installing Outrun via abandonware for those without a PC.

Before I sold my first deck I just played the PSP version and it had some issues.

Also, my reservation is still July-Sept and I ordered within mins of preorders going live!

I have it on Steam from many years ago, so don't know specifically what you need to do for it, but in general all you do is download the installer .exe to the Deck, then in Desktop mode add it as a non-Steam game and run it. Work all the way through the installer, and when it's done you go back into Steam in Desktop mode, and change the shortcut in Steam to point to the game's .exe instead of the installer's .exe.

There's a guide here for installing the Epic Games Store to the Steam Deck. You can follow the exact same principle for any Windows game - the guide is specifically for installing Epic, but the method is valid for basically any Windows executable. Obviously, where steps 9 and 10 in that guide are getting you to locate the EpicGamesLauncher.exe, you're instead looking for the .exe for your chosen game.

Edit: also, don't follow that guide for actually installing Epic Games Store, as that's pointless. Just download Heroic Games Launcher instead, as that will give you access to both your Epic and GOG libraries and there's far less fucking about to do.

I'm definitely going to have a crack at installing that sometime soon!

Outrun Online Arcade works flawlessly at 60fps on RPCS3 if you have any trouble with 2006.

Just fiddling with this at the moment, it seems quite stuttery - anything I should be changing in the config to hit 60fps?

Can someone explain to me why getting outrun on the steam deck is such a big thing? I’ve seen it mentioned a fair bit. It’s like 25 years old.

Because Outrun 2 is still the greatest arcade racer ever made :)

There's a much bigger mystery than Outrun. On the bottom of the Steam Deck case there's a thick elastic band, covering a recess, containing an empty drawstring pouch.

WHAT'S IT FOR????

The best explanation I have is that it's for the charger, but if so there's no way I can see to make it fit flush with the bottom of the case.

The case is an absolute beast.

I’ve encountered a few issues with a couple of games now - Far Cry 4 and Tomb Raider Underworld. Both experienced very bad slow down; the former seemingly at random, the latter when panning the camera, presumably when rendering stuff. Kinda made them unplayable. I guess I’ll try them at lower settings - I guess this is PC gaming at the end of the day - but a bit disappointing that it doesn’t run a 15 year old game on high settings. (Neither are verified, admittedly)

Well, given that it's a completely open platform that a lot of people seem interested in - the more people that get their hands on it I expect to see a lot of patches, etc from the community in the future. Plus Proton is still evolving.

My brother in law just leant me his Steam deck for our two-week US holiday today, and I don't even know where to start!

I have over 1,300 steam games, absolutely overwhelmed.

I know the right answer is Vampire Survivors the whole trip (already downloading), but any recommendations are much appreciated. Downloading Euro Truck Sim, Sonic Mania and Owlboy too.

That's exactly what it is for but it is designed for the US plug and not the UK plug.

Space Invaders Extreme just got verified. Nice prompt to play it again.

Gnng. News like this makes me hugely tempted to join in the fun. I have to keep saying no. I can't justify the expense nor the time. I am pretty jealous (pleased for you) how much gaming time you seem to get.

Just trying to fit it all in whilst I can :)

I can't screenshot for some reason, so I will just reel off a few settings I am using in RPCS3.

Vulkan renderer, framelimit 60, 1280x720, Async multi, no additional settings...I think everything else was left as default?  Using the NPEB00073 version.

I’m watching a video on emulation now and it looks like a piece of cake. Install Retroarch from the built in Linux app finder, set it up and add it to Steam.

Handheld Sega Rally here I come.
