The white PS5 header on the case really works against the blacks of the main artwork.

knew you were gonna say something like that :hat:

Did you not fancy this one on Steam then?

It’s a mega graphics remake and I’m buying for the mega graphics. I’m sure it will run well on steam deck but I think I’d be missing out there and may as well just play the OG on that.

Eurogamer:

"While this is a meticulous and appreciative reworking, a little too much of it seems designed to get in the original's way, to blur its focus and mutate it into an appendage of the omnivorous franchise operation it would become, where everything needs to be written into an on-going narrative backdrop, and genuine ambiguity is minimised. Rather than rescuing the past, it represents a franchise reaching its tendrils backward through time to become its own progenitor"

Another quote for Pseud's Corner.

7/10 from Metro who I think are amongst the most credible/reliable reviewers out there.

Pros: A respectful remake that makes several changes to the original design without them ever seeing out of place. The core experience is tense and atmospheric, with an unusual combat focus.

Cons: The original game always had problems in terms of pacing, repetition, and general unoriginality. Remake graphics could be better and the zero-G sequences are disappointing.

Score: 7/10

The graphics on the review I watched didn't seem that stunning, but I wonder how it looks on PC

Also I'm up for changes, I think DS1 had enough issues that would warrant a rethinking of how to approach it. Hopefully it pays off

Impressions immediately please :)

Had a quick go before getting stuck in properly later on. Here are my thoughts (and If The Callisto Protocol or The Last of Us Part 1 are triggering, please stop reading now):

- day 1 patch is about 1.8gb I think.

- It looks good but definitely not to the same standard as Callisto Protocol

- Defaults to performance mode. The quality mode is certainly noticeably better - I’ll probably use it - but it’s not a huge upgrade to fidelity like the difference between the performance and quality modes  in Callisto Protocol was. Lighting in Dead Space at least takes a leap, not sure if it’s ray tracing.

- Character models look good but after seeing the facial tech and animations in Callisto Protocol and The Last of Us Part 1 it’s not exactly mind blowing.

- The comparisons between this and Callisto protocol are inevitable, I’ll keep mentioning it.

- Haptics feel fine to me, though haven’t used the trigger stuff yet. There’s a cool, very intense rumble at the start that probably took a year off my DualSense’s lifespan.

- Seems to play well and I’ll likely have a grand old time

- I guess they could have done this on last gen, allbeit not as pretty but (wait for it) after playing through Callisto Protocol and The Last of Us part 1 it seems a little lacklustre by comparison, at least visually.

- Comparing it visually to Callisto Protocol does not do it any favours at all. That said I need to see some more environments to gauge this better.

- Comparing it as a full remake of an old game to The Last of Us Part 1 does not do it any favours at all either. That was off the charts, this is definitely on the charts.

- Another mention for good luck. It’s been close to 2 months since I played Callisto Protocol and whilst I enjoyed it and had great value* I realise how much of the enjoyment was taken from how incredible it all looked most of the time. I’m expecting Dead Space to be more fun to play.

- I saw some blood splatter that didn’t look particularly good when compared to, well, you know the answer by now.

Wait, this releases on the 27 right, should that not be 1 minute after midnight in about 6 hours from now?

The timer shows 22 hours remaining 😑

Release seems to be 16:00 tomorrow according to the Xbox store. Weird release time.

Any news at all on whether the PC version is utterly fantastic or COMPLETELY fucked? It's going to be one or the other.

Apparently its pretty good. Has DLSS etc and lets you preload shaders. I'll know myself at midnight!

Oh no, all the journalists that were forced to play Callisto are like ‘NOW THIS IS AMAZING YO!’ but it’s just because they were burnt out by Callisto and Forspoken and because this game is ‘ok’ it suddenly seems amazing to them.

Don’t be fooled, to us real gamers, it’s just an edge 8. Won’t even be mentioned in GOTY conversations. Calm down.

I’ve not played it.

The main thing I noticed playing last night was that the Callisto Protocol wasn’t actually particularly scary. This is 😬

Have things or encounters changed? Played the original to death, not sure if anything’ll surprise if things stayed the same.

It looks awesome, but I still feel that the cost to enjoyment ratio is drastically in favour of downloading the original game instead of shelling out £70.

i’ll get it when I find it for a good price, but not now.

I haven’t played it since release in 2008 so I couldn’t say. As far as I know it’s a pretty faithful remake.

Actually I think you are pretty accurate there. It was always a good game anyway though, so that helps.

The 3D audio/surround on this is pretty good/terrifying.

@Uzi have you got it running on deck yet?

Its not released on PC via EA Play until 4pm today

Even then, I don't even know how to run non steam games on my deck as I've never bothered. I'll be playing it on my 4090 maxed out thank you very much sir

From a review

Quote

Apparently, Dead Space has a reactive “AI director” of sorts that is tracking players, and it’s able to generate different kinds of enemy encounters. It puts an interesting wrinkle into how I typically play these games, where if I grossly misuse resources in combat, I might purposely die and streamline my process the next go around. Here, though, I can’t count on any of that, because the enemy layout, including the loot drops, aren’t static. This friggin’ rules, because it pushes back on the survival horror strategy of optimized survival. I’m only playing on normal, but I’ve been forced to use a lot more health than I normally would in a game like this, because there’s no guarantee that trying a room again will net a better outcome for me.

Fantastic in depth review here by Gman. Very pleased they didn't drop a bollock on this.

Was going to hold off for a sale but can get it physical for £47 on ebay today, link here: https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/dead-space-ps5series-x-ps4716-at-thegamecollectionoutlet-ebay-4076511 . There's also a £2 off any spend on TCB today, so will bring it sub £45.

Almost £20 cheaper than the digital version
