Having decided we weren't getting this as BF2042 is out on Friday...the 2 I play with caved and I had to buy the bloody thing too (yes, had to).

 

Multplayer seems decent, like the size of most of the maps so far...one of the two has declared he is never playing it again....he spent all of last night propping up the table from the bottom.

Yeah I've quite enjoyed MP and SP.

 

Multiplayer feels much faster and smoother than when I'd played the previous closed alpha and open betas. Having all the core abilities from MW is a godsend too; not being able to throw grenades whilst reloading or the exclusion of tactical sprint on Cold War forced me to change playstyle. I particularly love the Patrol game mode too though I've yet to try it out on hardcore, always up for games if anyone fancies it. 

 

Big fan of the campaign so far, even though I've played through the missions countless times - the visual fidelity and score have really elevated it. I'm playing through on Veteran for the first time since the OG Modern Warfare and, aside from some really egregious spikes, it's pretty good all round.

How does combat pacing work, then? I fancy buying this because I’m attracted to the idea of having the option of a slower pace, instead of spawn and die, super fast, ad nauseum. Does this combat pacing thing actually help achieve this?

It's supposed to, but currently it does not work properly

Yeah it does. It basically changes the density of players on a per map basis so it's possibly to make every map feel like shipment, or a ghost town, or somewhere in between. It works really well and it's probably one of the best recent additions to the franchise.

It’s a known bug, but yes it does work on consoles.

I know what it is. There’s no fov slider in Warzone on console (which I mostly play) and I just assumed that meant it would be the same in the base game. Fingers crossed it’ll be in Warzone when the new map drops!

Coming from Cold War this feels a bit too fast and chaotic, maybe it was just the maps I played but they all felt a bit like playing 6v6 on ICBM 

Running alongside a friendly operator then exactly the same operator comes jumping around a corner and shoots you will take getting used to aswell

Having the same operators on both sides really annoyed me in the beta, I was hoping there would be axis operators in the full game but I guess not.

Loving Vanguard so far, but I mainly stick to FFA.

The MG42 is great for 2-3 enemies in corridors where theres no escape, I struggle to keep it on target at long range in the open though its a bit wild, I need to get more attachments!

It's amazing how much better you can get the game to look on PS5 (and assumed Xboxes) by switching off World Blur/Weapon Blur/Depth of Field and turning on FidelityFX CAS and setting it to 100. Also use colour preset 2

 

Of course when you start the game up again both Depth of Field and Fidelity have both been switched off again - still haven't fixed that

 

I'm mostly a FFA player too, but if you haven't played any of this mode you should - just to get a feel for how unbalanced the audio is. Even without the poxy ninja perk, footsteps are like wearing Hush Puppies, therefore spatial awareness with other players is very poor indeed.

 

FFA is also disappointingly the same as it's been for ages. Shoot someone in front of you, instantly turn 180 degrees and run back  and get ready to shot the person you just shot down - because they are respawning right behind you!

I literally can't start a match, this crashes within 10 seconds of starting a game every single time. There's double everything running and I can't even play. I was playing it earlier without any problems and it's suddenly fucked. Updated the graphics drivers, scan and repair on the install, it just crashes.

I've even installed the Bergerac mod and it does work for a little while if you play as Charlie Hungerford, but when you use Bergerac it just crashes continuously. I don't even know what day it is but I think I'm on Jersey, the soundtrack is great but shipment. There was another TV show around the same time as Bergerac which had a vet in who had a beard, but I don't know what that was called and I don't really remember the soundtrack.

It turns out I was sort of right with my Bergerac fever dream last night. According to Reddit it's the second skin for Daniel that causes the crashes, I've gone back to the default one and it's fine now. Apparently the Bergerac skins are going to be delayed until the next battlepass, and Lovejoy ones are in the one after. Can't wait!
