Getting rid of the really cheesy 90s / 00s gags like "freckle bitches" and rim jobs is generally not a bad idea. It's all a bit overly edgelord even if it might raise a chuckle on initial viewing, they're hardly hilarious.

I'd be more disappointed if they removed the silliness like the insurance scam and other silly mini games.

As has been mentioned, if they don't have that cockney voice option and the ability to make your character look like a complete idiot in cutscenes, then I'll be even more disappointed.

Yes, cockney voice is imperative even if it didn't quite work with my Eddie Hitler-looking character.

My friend and I still say "ello" in the way he does occasionally when you carjack someone. It genuinely made the whole game loads better.

I don't even know if I could explain what my character looked like, a right old mess, essentially.

Which game was that btw?

Cyberpunk 2077. Less buggy than anything Bethesda ever released, less buggy than either of the top AAA games I played either side of it.

But the internet decided it was broken, cherry picked some videos and now has decided it was a bad game and it was nothing to do with bugs.

I worry that's exactly what's going to happen here because, essentially, of "I don't like change and there's no Johnny Gat".  And yet the internet ignores every GTA is a "reboot".

Aw man every time someone mentions that game I get a little jolt in the intestines remembering how awesome it was, and then a jolt of sadness as I realize I haven't had time to play a videogame in over three months.

I just noticed a "Turdis" police box in that last trailer so the level of humour still seems to be the edgelord variety, hopefully they haven't overdone it . And I'm not a Dr Who fan either so it's not specific butthurt over that one reference .

They've just released a trailer focussed on customisation, which is looking more extensive than ever:

It was part of a longer presentation which went into a few more specifics. Probably the biggest news from that is that they'll be releasing some means of creating your character pre-release.

I bought Saints Row IV on switch and spent about 40 minutes on character customisation after the tutorial level bit. Once I’d finished perfecting my avatar the game crashed without saving the character so I deleted the game.

I don’t think I could handle that happening again.

Sounds like a Switch port issue. I've played a lot of IV on PC and Xbox and it never crashed once.

You can create your character any time you like in-game, so maybe do it in stages. Get the hair looking good. Start. Save. Go to a surgeon, get that nose impeccable. Rinse, repeat until you have the abomination of your dreams.

After playing a ton of 3 I found 4 a real let-down, mostly due to the fact you could just run about and do superhero stuff. The messing about in 3 was great, wish I'd have done it in co-op actually.

I prefer the GTA model of decent story with option to dick about to the Saints Row model of dicking about with a story tacked on, personally, so never 100% got on with the SR games.

I'm guessing you never played the second one? The story in that kicked the arse out of any GTA for me, if only because the boss had personal agency instead of being constantly told what to do by assholes.

"Get up"

Never had shivers like that in a GTA.

I played the first one and then a few hours of whichever one started with you robbing a bank.

Which GTA has a good story? I've not played that one.

The one where my opinion of the story clearly differs from yours.

Anyway, it seems mad that if what people like saints row for is seemingly being taken away for this quasi reboot, it’s kind of missing the point.
