@Oracle

Quick question if I may, trying to get a 25 power list together to start a crusade.
as a necron player what would you least like to face?

primaris chaplain on bike

heavy intercessors

2x outriders

lots of bolters and punching. Very fast

or

Primaris librarian (or any 5 power leader unit)

assault or regular intercessors

redemptor dreadnaught

outriders

mix of speed and hard to remove.

any thoughts?

Charlie slaplin has been doing well and is hard to shift, depends what you are up against.

At lower power levels, Necrons are pretty strong,

Yeah the -2ap rapid fire Gauss guns are scary

Reapers are assault rather than RF, it’s the flayers that are RF.

500 points is fun

off the top of my head this is what I’d probably run:

++ Patrol Detachment 0CP (Necrons) [24 PL, 500pts, 3CP] ++

+ Configuration +

Battle Size [3CP]: 1. Combat Patrol (0-50 Total PL / 0-500 Points)

Detachment Command Cost

Dynasty Choice: Circumstance of Awakening: Healthy Paranoia, Dynastic Tradition: Eternal Conquerors, Dynasty: <Custom>

+ HQ +

Chronomancer [4 PL, 80pts]: Aeonstave, Relic: Veil of Darkness, Warlord, Warlord Trait (Codex 4): Thrall of the Silent King

Plasmancer [4 PL, 70pts]

+ Troops +

Necron Warriors [6 PL, 130pts]
. 10x Necron Warrior (Gauss Reaper): 10x Gauss Reaper

Necron Warriors [6 PL, 130pts]
. 10x Necron Warrior (Gauss Flayer): 10x Gauss Flayer

+ Fast Attack +

Canoptek Scarab Swarms [2 PL, 45pts]
. 3x Canoptek Scarab Swarm: 3x Feeder Mandibles

Canoptek Scarab Swarms [2 PL, 45pts]
. 3x Canoptek Scarab Swarm: 3x Feeder Mandibles

++ Total: [24 PL, 3CP, 500pts] ++

Nice. I hate scarab swarms, they’re so hard to remove. What does a chronomancer do?

I’m liking the 7 bikes and 5 chonkers list in my mind, but then the dread has a massive machine gun that could do work against warriors.

spoilt for choice with hq options at 5 power for marines - I like the lefty with shield, but the Librarian offers good stuff too.

Necron hqs are tough, ideally I’d want an overlord for the movement buff + MWBD (hitting on 2s) and a reso orb but at 500 points it’s hard to balance.

The Chrono Allows rerolling of charges and in the command phase gives a unit a 5+ invul.

scarabs are great, fast movement (10) and 4 wounds a base. Useful for screening, particularly against smites.

I think with 7 bikes and 5 marines you will struggle with board control (unless you split the bikes into units of 3 & 4

It would be 1 hq plus 2 units of 3 outriders with the marines holding the home objective. So that’s 12 bodies all with 3 wounds at least.

even if I went for maximum bodies I’d have 20 marines and a leader.

Ugh. I got utterly smashed yesterday, I thought I was playing ultramarine but turns out it was against Nids.

The mission was vital intelligence (ugh), hold 2, hold 3, hold more with odd marker placement.

I won the first go, and promptly failed to kill anything, this was using two doom stalkers and the heavy destroyers alongside warriors etc. I managed to only kill 5 genestealers the entire game.

I was then minced in combat :(

Yeah, I thought you’d be happy with that! I’m supposed to be playing my mate next week (won’t hold breath) so am expecting some janky necron rubbish. Hopefully he won’t have noticed or BattleScribe won’t get updated.

Flayed ones getting a potential 160 buffed attacks says hello.

I think its possible (but unlikely) to do 200 attacks, depending on strats and support characters/command protocols & dynasty choices.

Skorpekh destroyers will also be very nasty, use the strat for extra strength so a unit of 6, puts out:

6 S8 -4 3dmg attacks  & 16 S6 -3 2dmg attacks

Potentially hitting on 2+s re-rolling 1s And if it’s the protocol of the hungry void it could be S9 & S7

Some more details here:

@Oracle

hopefully have a 25power game tomorrow against my mates necrons -

i’m thinking

smash chaplain on bike 6p

heavy intercessors with a heavy bolter 7p

2x outriders 12 p

so that gives me loads of mobility to rampage around chopping shit up and a chunk of T5 3w guys to sit on backfield objectives.

The bikers can put out more bolter shots and more chop than troops and I think I’d rather get in his face and make him fight than get shot to shit. This might backfire if he goes for skorpekh destroyers though. What do you reckon?

if you had to fight 25 power of marines what would you not want to see?

the other option is

librarian, outriders, regular or assault intercessors and a redemptor dreadnaught

At 25 power it’s tricky to fit much in. At the most I can get 21 bodies on the table if I go hq and all troops.
So I think having the speed to slam 7 bikes into melee, potentially on turn one might be the best way to deal with the destroyers

I won!
85-29 (I think) I maxed out primaries, 30 on secondaries (slay warlord, attrition and thin ranks) and 10 for paint.

he had

Skorpekh lord,

3 destroyers

10 warriors with the ap-2 flayers

3 scarab swarms

a tomb wraith

We did combat patrol mission 1, fairly symmetrical terrain set up.
I plonked my heavies on the marker in my zone then got turn 1 so sent the bikes up the sides and took the 2 middle markers

He then teleported his lord and the destroyers into my backfield where they stayed, his destroyers failed their charge which probably cost him the game.

I sent one lot of bikes and killed his scarabs and took his objective and eventually his warriors too.

Everything else was in a melee, my chaplain rolled horribly, did no damage and then died to the lord. The skorpekh guys are stupidly powerful. I managed to kill the lord by getting a couple of mortal wounds off a heavy bolter stratagem.

I struggled to scratch the destroyers though. Needed some high ap shooting maybe. I did forget about the tactical doctrine on turn 2 which would have helped a bit I think.
I also got luck in a couple of fights where he had the 2 different weapon profiles on the destroyers, they’d kill one guy, but removing that model meant they were out of range for the next attack.

But by stealing the markers early and tying up his dudes it meant that he couldn’t do anything about it so I scored 15 points each turn for primaries.

I ended up with 1 biker left at the end of the game.

By a combination of running away and luck these guys managed to last until the last round against these brutes before the last man was squished.

Congrats!

the stalker is an unexpected choice. Skorpekh Lord seems unbalanced (only buffs one unit). Power level means you don’t pay the price for upgrades right?

I would have used:

overlord, phaeron, relic orb, thrall silent king trait

10 reaper warriors

3 skorpekhs

3 tomb blades, shadowlooms/shieldvanes

1 lokust heavy destroyer

The thinking is, everything can be buffed by the overlord, two MWBDs per turn, everything is 1 inch movement
