I posted this in the PSN thread and there's no denying I'm feeling pretty smug about it but it might help anyone going for the gold in the final Super License test. I did one full lap on my wheel for silver then had a quick blast on controller yesterday.

I put traction control back to 3 and turned counter steering assistance to strong and narrowly golded it first full lap i completed. I did watch a track guide video and the main tips were the racing line isn't where you think it is and to up shift into second mid corner on the slow hairpin corners and you get way better traction.

Two hardest bits are Eau Rouge/Radillon (there's a nasty bump that if you don't lift a bit you'll spin and I recommend 3rd gear for that) and Blanchimont. Blanchimont in these conditions can go fuck itself. Hard to see the dry line, I lost most of my time on this section rolling around in the wrong gear squinting at the track looking for puddles.

*full disclosure - my 'full lap' on the wheel took me like 15/20 attempts. Spin city.

I just did the Rally Cafe missions. OMG the rally is SO shit. Why is this in the game? It feels like something from the PS3 / 360 era. Awful.

Rally is to GT what the drug sequences are to the Far Cry games. Just why.

From the update notes

Quote

There’s also a single new feature added, by way of a wind speed/direction indicator on the main race screen. We’ve seen strong crosswinds affecting the car previously, but the indicator will also allow players to anticipate the arrival and departure of weather systems.

Not played enough to notice wind but this sounds cool.

Also - how do you zoom out on the weather map?

Funnily enough it was my gear changes that helped me pass National A 9 last night, I was changing late, particularly on exit, started changing a little earlier and was consitently getting 17.1's then finally got under that

Though I've also been more comfortable with the counter steer thing being turned off and the TCS on 2 or 3 depending upon the car and circuit. The NSX was amazing on 2, the Supra in the following test challenge needed to be on 3 just to get it to want to change direction with a bit more stability.

@Junkersee the newb, he just doesn't get it yet.

I think with the rallying if you try and play it like Dirt's finest then it's just going to lol at you. Become sega rally and embrace it. Was amazed to see that my rally license times have survived a week.

on the cafe missions, you definitely got dirt tyres on? cos it's insane that in the license tests it's got bugged. I mean the dirt tyres were shit so i can't imagine how hard it is on comfort hards!

I just bunged a huge turbo on it and brute forced my way though. And I really don't like doing that. I am trying to do everything so far with a stock car. Adding more performance just seems like press here to win to me.

Are we being competitive on license times? I just did the bare minimum and moved on. I can go back if that is now a thing!

No, no, no.

It took every bit of my talent to get through some of these tests and get the gold 😂

ha ha - I also noticed that when you complete a licence and go back to choose the next one you can briefly see all the text in Japanese!

There’s a dirt stage in the licence tests and I can’t get gold for the life of me. Target is 34.800 and some how in my first try I got got 34.902 but ever since then (2 days) I can’t get passed 35.202.

Gamesmaster?

The dirt license tests might be broken at the moment, looks like it gives you the wrong tires. Thanks to Varnsen for pointing that out.

I’m determined to do this with a Pad and TC 0, I have Silver so far. You have to be so precise braking and following the dry line though. It’s my favourite event so far, followed by the Mission with the Mazda 787B.

I do love how clean this looks. Just done the first Championship on Tokyo Expressway where it starts in the dark and brightens as you race. S’beautiful in a way that you don’t kind of appreciate at first. It’s almost like a natural future progression of Tokyo from Ridge Racer V.
