I've also been experimenting with blank inclusions - that is, dice shapes that have no numbers and are smaller than normal dice slightly. You can use these blanks to make interesting patterns or designs that don't involve mixing resin, then stuff them in a normal mould with some clear resin to seal them. For this experiment, I'm trying out hydro dipping.

What a lovely thread, look forward to seeing how the hydro-dipped dice come out especially the yellow and green prototype.

 

It's a tough choice but I think the Cosy dice might be favourite so far as the colour mix is just great, reminds me of an old scarf I used to have which is probably the most middle aged thing I've ever posted. I'm a big fan of the blue quake and the sky set as well, the yellow looks great against them and really makes the numbers stand out.

Decided to treat these dice as individuals, rather than a coherent set, with a view to figuring out which combination I like the most and making that into a set. Trouble is, I love em all (but I think the D20 is edging it for me).

They all look good and personally I like the d8, but the colour composition on the d20 really does go together well. I'd love to see what the d12 looks like with a light orange rather than the yellow to give a Kingfisher feel to the whole effect.

The last couple of pours have been experiments with the "Petri Dish" method - that is, you load drip ink and a heavy white mixitive on top of your resin, and the mixitive and ink sink down through the mould, forming these weird tendrils that look wild up close. The main problem with this technique is that some "drips" make it to the other side, forming opaque patches of pigment, but I think this can add to the creeping pestilence vibe.

I really hated these when they came out of the pot, but my better half persuaded me to polish one up and try giving it a gold inking. I'm so glad I did! The result is weird, kind of antique looking, not captured well in photographs. They ended up being one of my favourite sets!

Did you cast smaller dice to go inside larger dice? They seem to have an inner and an outer layer.

Exactly right... you cast smaller dice shapes without numbers, apply the pattern to that, then cast the "blanks" in clear resin in normal moulds for the numbers.

It’s also interesting to see different D4s. Back when I played as a child they were just the plain pyramid style, usually with the number at the base rather than apex.

Finished this set. They inspired me to dig out my old Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (the best Warhammer) rulebook from 1989 and gaze upon pictures of skeletons and gothic decay.
