Guardians of the Galaxy (2021) - It's really Groot!

This is out in 10 days time and the thread on here has a grand total of two posts. Oh dear!

They've released some gameplay videos today and I have to say it looks really uninspiring, like a cheap licensed 360 game with slightly shiner visuals.

Anyone on here actually going to spend £59.99 on this? Or £79.99 (!) for the 'Cosmic Deluxe Edition'

I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that this will be on GamePass within 6 months, so may give it a try then.

Is this the last gasp of whatever deal Square-Enix and Disney signed or is there more to come? I can't imagine either party are partcularly happy with how things turned out.

You can only play as Quill?  I don't know if that was widely known (I haven't followed it) but what a boring choice.

That's me out then. I wasn't going to buy it until it was about £10 anyway (or it hits Game Pass), but I don't want a third-person shooter with some selectable skill moves from the rest of the gang. I agree with @Harsin, that combat just looks awkward and reminds of some of the jank I've played recently on PS2 where the camera is just not fit for purpose.

S-E have really messed up this partnership, haven't they?

Smyths only have 2 big releases listed for the rest of the year for video games and this is one of them. The other is COD. Hmmmmmm…..

Eh? They’ve got Forza Horizon 5, Pokémon, Battlefield 2042, Halo Infinite, Riders Republic, Jurassic World Evolution 2, Peppa Pig…

I'm interested in it. Not interested enough to make a thread for it as mentioned above, but I could do with a colourful, poppy single player space opera after the more oppressing sci-fi settings of Metroid Dread and Returnal, awesome as they are. Provided it reviews well, I'll definitely grab it. The previews are certainly encouraging, especially since they seem to come from people who weren't actually looking forward to it but were swayed after playing it. See Ben Moore's take in the OP as well.

When it was revealed they announced the Quinn thing. I think the developers said working remotely became a challenge so they thought best to concentrate on getting one character right rather than stretch themselves with four. Which is fair enough.

I do like the ability to issue commands to your squad. And combat looked fine. I am keeping an eye on it, but going to wait to see some reviews before purchasing. Hopefully it's more Spiderman than Avengers.

I'm looking forward to it. By the time that Christmas comes and I've got a bit of time off to play it I expect it to be on sale. I'd be happy to put a few quid down on something new and shiny, despite it looking like it'll be on Game Pass by this time next year.

The gunplay looks just like Saints Row 1 and they don't even have the actors' likenesses

59.99!

Of course they don't have the actors likenesses! Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana don't come cheap. They have many years of comic books to pull designs from, the bad news is the one they chose for Quill is bad.

They don’t look like the comics either, Drax and Gamora are especially dreadful.

Are they taking the piss?

This just seems destined to fail which is probably a shame. The trailers have been bad but the previews make it seem like there's some neat ideas in there.

Looks genuinely entertaining. The combat system looks more involved than (or at least equal to) far more lauded games (Control anyone?), the graphics decent and the gameplay systems solid enough. I wouldn't pay full price for it, but it looks a significant step up from licenced shovelware.

I’m going out on a limb here but I have a good feeling about this. I think it’ll be much better than is being anticipated.

Hat/ right testicle wagered…

Well I'm in - got it for £30 from CDkeys pre-order and I think it looks great*

*I actually liked The Avengers game

Can’t say it looks as involved as flinging 20

filing cabinets and a projector at people to my eye.

I think this is going to be a 7/10 and I’ll end up getting it and not really enjoy it.

Out tomorrow and as far as I know the review embargo is also up tomorrow. I like what I've seen so far in the trailers but no way in hell am I preordering until I see what people think.

*Edit*

Looks like reviews are dropping later today.

Will wait for a deep sale.

The reviews reported a fuck load of bugs and crashes (over a dozen on PS5!?)

Happy to wait and play it for under £25 (or on GP if that happens) and they fix the issues.
