I'm basically swamped with amazing games, and it looks to just keep on going.

Those ones prior outlined are just the big headlines, of which I'm sure loads will be incredible.

...but there's so much amazing stuff that's slightly under the radar and probably not even announced yet.

My GOTY by far is Metroid Dread and that was announced maybe 3 months before release?

I'm always up for being excited about games. There's never been a year yet that hasn't had at least a couple of things stand out and I thoroughly enjoy, so I'm guessing unless the electricity stops and the world suddenly decides to kill each other even more than they usually do (which is always a bit of a worry), then yeah, I'm going to be excited.

But I'm mostly excited about the games that suddenly appear that I've somehow missed the news about. They're the best things ever.

Never played a Soulsborne at launch before, so looking forward to that quite considerably.

Oh man it’s the best. So exciting, especially the first few days.

I reckon Starfield won’t make 2022 based on what we have (or haven’t) seen. But I’ve been wrong loads of times!

I think it will make it, but I’m expecting a lot of info over the next year. If we get past e3 and we’ve not seen a build running id expect a delay.

I am most excited about the forthcoming end of the semiconductor shortage, so that AMD and Nvidia can announce their budget graphics card ranges, so that it will once again be possible to get a GPU that's adequate for my needs for a reasonable price (<£130), like you could in the good old days (five years ago).

That's all sure to happen in 2022, right?

Spoiler

*cries*

The only games listed that I'm really looking forward to are Elden Ring (which, based on previous From Souls-adjacent games, could go either way); Breath of the Wild 2 (which I'm not convinced will come out next year) and Kirby (which looks great, but Kirby games are very hit and miss). So, no, not really.

I'm sure it'll be a good year, as they all are, and there'll assuredly be some brilliant games coming out of left field, but I'm not particularly excited for any of the big releases currently being trailed; there's nothing that has me in as much anticipation as next week's Shin Megami Tensei V, for example.

I agree with this sentiment - pretty much every year is the best year to date, because it's usually a couple of games from that year in addition to a bunch of games I didn't get around to in the first place.

I'm pretty much playing Cyberpunk nearly a full year after release right now. I'm really enjoying it, although the price was certainly right at the time to overlook the critical parts now.

Combine that with stuff like Loop Hero, Unbeatable and Phantom Abyss that came out of the left field for me this year, and you're always bound to have a good time over 12 months.

I don’t think BotW2 is going to be a dual release. I can’t see a new Nintendo machine being announced until 2023 at the very earliest, let alone released.

Personally I’m looking forward to Splatoon 3 and Triangle Strategy most of all, so nothing to go crazy over if I’m honest. I have a strong feeling that Bayonetta 3 will be unable to satisfy. I’ll still be up for it day one, mind.

Maybe I can burn some money on a PS5 I don’t really need all that much if only for Gran Turismo. Even so, hardly gonna be wetting myself with excitement.

Seemingly all the games I'm looking forwards to all come out at the same time: Destiny Witch Queen, Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West and Sifu are all out between the 18th and 25th February. Fuck.

The fortune teller I saw suggested that it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if at least one of those games will delayed.

I'm pretty sure that's locked in stone.  It's Xbox's end of year flagship. They'll go big with marketing from summer onwards.

I`m buried under so much backlog (even just the stuff I actually want to play) that it's hard to get too excited about any upcoming games. The lists of upcoming AAA titles don't excite me at all, I really feel like I`m almost totally done with that stuff these days.

Hardware wise,I`m quite excited by the idea of using a steam deck to play my aforementioned PC backlog on a handheld.

Also PSVR2.. PSVR (and any non-Facebook owned VR gaming) is probably the most genuinely exciting part of gaming for me these days. That said, I haven't even managed to get a PS5 yet, so even if PSVR2 comes out next year, I very much doubt I'll get anywhere near one for a long time (have to get in line after all the scalpers). I wouldn't even be too confident about getting a PS5 in 2022, and at some stage enough time will have passed since release that I`m not going to be willing to pay full rrp for a release day model console and will just wait for a discount/hardware refresh.

So no, not excited.

BotW2 is the only thing released next year that I'm likely to play. No PS5/Series X here and no feeling of urgency to get either, plus the massive backlog I've accumulated is keeping me occupied.

Yep, same for me, nothing could possibly compete with it. I still feel uncertain it will come out next year and if it does it will be very late, like December.

I’m looking forward to Elden Ring, Advance Wars & Triangle Strategy the most, but tbh with Horizon 5 out now and Halo Infinite next month I’m not really thinking about next year just yet. Halo in particular I’ve been waiting an age to play.
