Well, this latest one was emotional. Just one left now!

It’s heavy handed, lacks any kind of subtlety, but manages to be so ridiculous at times it’s quite funny.

I'll give you heavy handed, but I don't see what's so ridiculous about it.

The situation being allowed to unfold is what I found ridiculous, at times it feels more like a horror film. Probably not explaining myself very well, but stuff like the frozen fish and the woman in the bathroom at AA. it’s darkly amusing to me, I guess I’m a bit twisted. Gallows humour sort of thing.

Latest episode was excellent, not a dry eye in the house!

Loving Dopesick, is next week the finale?

We started 'Crime of the Century' yesterday, a two part HBO documentary on the opioid crisis, so far an excellent companion piece to this. There's also The Pharmacist on Netflix covering some of the same ground.

This was excellent. We rewatched the John Oliver episode about the Sacklers straight after (it is on YouTube). Only Murders in the Building didn't live up to forum hype (almost) but this really did. Keaton performance is outstanding, but many other people also delivering their best.

Only getting started on this now. When John Oliver did one of his Oxy stories, he got Richard Kind to portray Richard Sackler. And I keep seeing this shows Richard Sackler making faces rather like Richard Kind.

I just watched the John Oliver piece. I was angry after watching the last episode of Dopesick. I’m even angrier now.

Real-life update

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/feb/19/purdue-pharma-opioids-sackler-lawsuits

Sacklers continue to try to reach a settlement with the group of states suing them and thousands of other lawsuits. Upping their offer from $4.3bn to $6bn. The offer still gives them personal protection from these and any other future lawsuits, which would be a damn shame if it was accepted. And victims groups say despite the increase in payout offered, their sum would not increase at all.

Crazy again, some of the best shows out there don't seem to be getting much attention on here.

I watched this purely for Michael Keaton and it turned out to be not only the best show I've seen this year, but probably one of the best I've seen in the last few years.

Keaton and Poulter were sensational throughout; the tension, corruption, greed and the impact, as well as utter disregard, for society was so compelling to watch.

Up to episode 4, bleak but gripping stuff.

I became aware of this topic from Behind The Bastards which talks about the foundation of the FDA (immediately doing amazing work and blocking the sale of Thalidomide in the United States, to becoming the shower of bastards they are today).

Just finished watching this. Fantastic show. One of the best I've seen in a long time.

Favourite moment:

Spoiler

Rosario Dawson's triumphant stare into the mirror / camera after realising she'd got the evidence she needed. I thought that was a fantastic way to end the episode. Too bad it didn't work out.

I hadn't looked into much at all of the true story behind this. In fact, I'd convinced myself that Purdue and the Sacklers were made up because no-one could be that awful, at least until the actual footage was shown. Completely horrific to think that people who'd never think of doing illegal drugs would happily chomp down on those pills based on the lies and corruption that convinced people it was safe.

I thought it was him for a bit!
